New Favorite Restaurant 11/15/2009

One question.... how did I not know about this restaurant? I am so glad I have found it!! From the food to the service, everything was excellent!! I can not wait to go back!\r For our entree we ordered Scallops, Veal and Duck. All of which were amazing but the Duck was over the top. If you are willing to try or already like Escargot then you MUST order this! A little suggestion, dip your bread into the butter and garlic sauce after the Escargot is gone. Also ordered the Warm Goat Cheese Salad. Oh my goodness, it was delicious!! Really, I can't say enough about the whole experience. You need to check this place out! Pros: Food more

major disappointment 5/19/2009

I had hoped for a fun evening at this place, but instead when i ordered their artichoke appetizer, which was missing the heart of the artichoke when it was served, I was accused of lying when I complained, and then the waiter suggested I leave the restaurant since I was un happy with the food. To pay $15 for an artichoke with no heart (so they could use it themselves for another dish) is total fraud. And to pretend it was me that didn't understand the ""dish"" is really over the top. I did leave, so I cannot comment on their main courses, but be VERY careful with this place. Pros: fun interior, interesting menu Cons: very poor service, fraud with their food offering more

Foubulous 3/9/2009

Loved every aspect of this cozy place. Eclectic art and signs, friendly owners, knowledgable staff; and the food unbelievable. I ventured to try the kangaroo after the waiter ""highly recommended"" and it was tender and juicy as he claimed. My wifes fish entree was wonderful and looked like an architects model...presentation, presentation, presentation....\r The 2 items that were the best I've ever had were the Lobster Bisque and the French vanilla ice cream. Best in class. Pricey yes, but we will return for those special occassions - you can't take it with you! Pros: Food and staff Cons: ??? more

Kansas City is a really great city...with really great food...who knew?! 1/3/2009

After reading the two negative or temperate reviews on this site, the skepticism cultivated from years in NYC kicked in and I wasn't sure if we were getting ourselves into a high-priced disappointment or a delightful discovery. Well, let it be known my friends, it was definitely the latter! Really yummy food with complex sauces that I feel I could never do at home (but not too much of it, not drenched in sauce...just enough); attentive but not hovering wait-staff and a super cozy and fun atmosphere. It was possibly the best meal we've had in a long time. I had the lobster tails, he had the red snapper, we started with the porcini soup and finished with the tarte tartin and coffee. The coffee also was delicious. I highly recommend! This place is totally worth the price. Pros: atmosphere, food, staff Cons: leave kids at home more

C'est Magnifique! 11/17/2008

My husband and I went for a special occasion. We signed up for reservations online and requested a certain area, from other city search recommendations. We received the exact spot we wanted.\r There was some delay from the time we arrived to the time we were seated, but that can be expected with such a small environment and popular venue. \r The bartender was GOLDEN and attentive, as were the owners who greet everyone and make sure their experience is top notch.\r The food was fabulous, and worth the cost, for our occasion. The wine was good, the salad was even special.\r Get the lobster tails with vanilla and champagne sauce, and the creme brulee. You will not be disappointed! Pros: Thumbs up on excellent customer service Cons: I regret to admit I can't go on a regular basis because the cost. Perhaps happy hour and h'ors Oeudvres for me! more

Absolutely my favorite restaurant 1/1/2008

I cannot say enough good things about this place. Lookng at it from the outside, you would neer know what a treasure lies within. I never ever thought a Kansas City restaurant would top my other faves in New Orleans and Vieques, but it definitely has. The food is amazing, hands down the best food I have ever tasted. The menu changes, which made me sad at first when I wanted to go back and order what I had liked so much the first time...but its definitely not a bad thing, it got me to try a variety of stuff and I have loved everything I have ever eaten there. On top of the amazing entrees (the Filet Le Fou is mouthwatering) they have wonderful hors d'oeurves of cheeses and fruits, and a fantastic tartare de thon with ahi tuna. Add to that my two favorite staples from my favorite cty of New Orleans, Le Fou has some fantastic french onion soup and creme brulee. Its somewhat pricey, but believe me, worth every penny. The staff is lovely, and the owner always stops by the table, either to just check on how your food is, or to bring you your to go boxes, which usually have a lovely little message written on them. This place is cozy and unpretentious, the people are wonderful, its an absolute 10. And guaranteed to impress a girl if you take her there on a date. Pros: Cozy, romantic ambience, fantastic staff, best food I have ever tasted in MO, Lovely owners Cons: Small, so at peak times may be somewhat difficult to get a table more

Great French Joint 8/19/2007

Nothing but praises for this bistro. The selection, the taste and the service is excellent. Nothing more but perfection will be provided at this place. I am from Dallas, TX and everytime I come to KC, I always make an attempt to come to this restaurant with my girlfriend. The lobster bisque is to die for and the eclectic selection of entree is amazing. For those who are looking for some place romantic and local, then look no further. Pros: The food, ambience, parking, service, and wine selection Cons: Price (expensive, but good), restaurant size (small) more

Horrible experience. 6/5/2007

Being that Le Fou Frog is a 5 star restaurant, I expected it to be excellent all around. However, It was everything but excellent. I ordered a mild white fish and it was horribly fishy, I couldn?t believe it. My mom ordered the lobster and we had to send it back because it was so tough, even my dad (who never complains) agreed that it was not fit to eat. This meal was by far the worst meal I have EVER had at a nice restaurant. Pros: ambience Cons: food more

Average fine dining. 1/29/2007

Despite the first impression when you see the exterior of Le Fou Frog, the interior is very cozy and comfortable, a great atmosphere for a date or dinner party. And, although you would think you've found an awesome place, the food was not quite the superb experience we expected. Everything was good, some was very average like the soup and two appertizers, other parts were very unique and tasty like the sauce on the entrees, but overall, we were mildly disappointed. Pros: With our reservation, we were sat promptly. Nice Atmosphere. Cons: Poor service, average fine dinning food. more

Great for a date! 8/8/2006

Very flavorable 7/31/2006

I love this place! It is so unpretentious, but the food is fabulous!!! There are so many things to choose from. I was overwhelmed at first, but the kind and friendly server explained everything in great detail. She even told me which items we're smaller or larger depending on our appetite. I had the steak, I was hungry!, but the portion even blew me away. It was one of the best steaks, no the best steak, I ever had!! I also had a very nice, but modestly priced bottle of wine, the cute and professional manager recommended. On my first visit I felt like one of the family, I will definately go back, I can't wait to try more!!! Pros: the food and service Cons: my stomach not big enough more

The best hands down in KC!! 7/10/2006

The Le Fou Frog is the best restaurant in KC. If you are spending a relaxing evening with friends at their wonderful Happy Hour to a special night with someone you love, their wonderful staff will make it a night to remember. more

fun, friendly atmosphere, excellent food 6/19/2006

I DEFINITELY recommend visiting Le Fou Frog. I visited the restaurant on a very busy night, but the service was still amazing and the waiters and hosts were friendly. It's impossible not to have a good time in this restaurant. The atmosphere is friendly, warm and inviting, and the food was spectacular. A++ Pros: atmosphere, close parking, service more

Fantastic Dining Experience 2/7/2006

This is a great dining experience!! This was our first (definately not our last) visit to Le Fou Frog. The service was great. The owners came around and asked if we had any questions about the menu, which we did, and they were tremendously helpful and friendly. We had John Dory and Ahi Tuna (they have steaks also) both meals were fantastic. Great Wine List. You won't be disappointed!! Pros: Service, Food, Ambience more

Best Place in Kansas City 11/3/2005

Le Fou Frog is always an EXPERIENCE! The food is so incredible that you savor each bite. The portions are extremely generous, but I always manage to each every bit of whatever I've ordered. The chef is truly a master! The service is fantasic. They always make you feel like you are the most important person who comes to the restaurant. This place is truly the most exceptional restaurant in town. Pros: Fantastic Food, Great Service, Wonderful atmosphere Cons: Downtown more

Awesome 7/26/2004

Just want to update my review I have been to the Frog many times now. I have not had a bad meal yet. The steak is still the best in KC! The French onion suop is to die for. THe Frog reminds of the Bistro's in France. If you have a special night plan include this place in them. Th ewine list is great and I would never bring an outside wine into anyones restaurant. Go down to the Frog and have great night. The service is great they treat everyone like a VIP! Pros: Steak, Frites, Service more
