Pro: Named for a scandalous cabaret in Paris in the late 19th - early 20th Century, where Erick Satie played piano and tangos were performed. On St. Charles Avenue, actors, singers, and theatre goers used to mingle with stylish, sexy, tango dancers. Beautiful perfumed women in low cut corsets were dipped down to the mosaic tile floor by mysterious gentlemen in black silk, propelled by strange, angst-ladden, music.
Con: The bartender thought the dancers unsophisticated for becoming more intoxicated with each other, than with what he was selling, and so they stopped having tango night.
Con: The elegant lady in charge tried to persuade me that the pretty girl I met there would be better off with a woman.
Pro: Neither the girl, nor I were in the least deterred.
Redeeming pro: Still offers New Orleans, and your first date, a rare cultural treat.
