One of the best kennels in the Portland area. Sure it's a little far being in Hillsboro, but its out in the country and very quiet. They have excellent hours are are open every day of the year. Everytime I turn down their gravel road my dog gets excited! She can't wait to go! When I pick her up she's ready to go right back inside, my dog's reactions to the kennel let me know she is being taken care of. The office staff are always so nice on the phone, and very knowledgeable about dogs in general as well as my dog specifically! I always enjoy reading the comments on my receipt about how she did during her activities. It's very obvious they took the time to know my dog. There are a lot of great kennels out there but I think Laurel Acres really comes in at the top. I highly recommend this kennel to everyone. They also have tours that don't even require an appointment, I think anyone shopping for a kennel should drop by and check this one out! Alex more

Very Pleased! 12/26/2010

I usually do not write reviews but I was so pleased after picking my dogs up from Laurel Acres that I had to contribute. I boarded my two dogs over Christmas and just picked them up today. Their staff is very friendly and seem to really care about dogs. Admittedly, one of my dogs is a huuuge handful and I was reticent to board him. The staff was very welcoming, patient, and reassuring. When I picked them up I was given a lot of details about their behavior and their playtime etc.. It was clear that the staff had spent time with my dogs in spite of how busy they were, as they were very familiar with both of them. My dogs had a great time and I will definitely be returning next time my pups need a babysitter. more

If you love your animals never bring them here. 5/16/2010

Laurel Acres Kennel is a horrible place to leave your family member. Most of the employee's do not care one bit about your dog or cat unless he or she is one of their favorite breeds. They want their employees to use force against dogs and if they do not then they are considered weak. If your dog is mistreated and you have a complaint against the manager, do not expect the owners to help the situation. In fact, they will take the managers side and refuse to remidy the situation even if the dog is physically abused. They are rude to customers and have no patience with any type of dog unless of course it fits with their liking. If your dog is sick or in pain, it is likely that it will be ignored and the dog's owners will not be contacted and informed of the situation. This kennel gives the appearance of a really nice place; however, unless your dog has no personality and no needs, this is not the place for them. The clean runs and facilities are just a facade for lack of care and attention given at all times. Most often, people are paying for things that are not getting completely done or done thuroughly. I was informed that in order for my dog to walk absolutely perfectly and at their side he was choked to the point that his feet were off the ground and he was making awful choking noises. I expect my dog to be disciplined by me, not the kennel. If I wanted my dog to be trained, I would have put him in obedience school instead of a kennel. I did NOT pay them to choke my dog. The dogs are kept inside all night and have no way of relieving themselves unless they do it on their blankets. When I have picked my dog up from the kennel the treats that I left him were given right back to me, showing that he was not givn any treats during his stay. I pack these treats for a reason: to help comfort my dog while I am away from him. Bottom Line: Do NOT bring your animal here. It is a place that is disfunctional, rude, mean, abusive, and neglectful. My dog will never come here again and if you care about your dog neither will they. Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything more

Buyer beware. 9/27/2009

In May 2009, our female dog came home from Laurel Acres with a severe bladder infection. The Vet bill was $561 and our dog was on medication for two weeks. The kennel owner refused to help with the vet bills saying they keep a clean kennel. We could not prove they were negligent, so we did not push for reimbursement. On our last visit a couple of weeks ago, I asked how late the dogs were allowed access to the outdoor run and I was told the dogs are locked in the small sleeping area from 7:30pm to 7:30am as all the staff leaves the facility at 7:30pm. It is cruel and stressful to expect the dogs to either hold their urine for twelve hours or urinate in their sleeping area. In addition, I requested our two senior dogs be fed between 6:00-7:00am and 6:00-7:00pm. I was told no problem. When I picked our dogs up at 5:00 on a Friday, I asked if our dogs had been fed and I was told they were fed at 8:30am and 2:00pm their entire stay. Instead of going twelve hours after the night feeding, they had to wait eighteen hours. Our requests, which we paid additional fees for, were not adhered to and our dogs were clearly not a priority. I will never again use Laurel Acres Kennels. Cons: Dogs are locked in small sleeping area from 7:30pm-7:30am. more

In response to 11/5/08 review 11/18/2008

Review left on 11/5/08 was by disgruntled employee upset about termination. Pros: really really love to care for animals Cons: may love your pet so much they don't want to give them back, but they will ; ) more

Poorly Managed 11/5/2008

DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR PET! I have never seen a place so poorly mismanaged. The office staff is incredibly rude and not accommodating to the needs of the customer. Staff that cannot treat YOU with respect certainly should not be trusted to treat your pet with respect. When I asked to speak with the owner I was told by the manager that they do not ""DEAL"" with customers. Cons: Poor and disrespectful office management more

Great pet care, Great Customer care 5/3/2008

I've been bringing my pets to Laurel Acres three or four times a year for the past few years. After moving almost an hour away last year, i tried to find a facility closer to home, but none could compare to what my pets and myself are getting here. Pros: great staff, impressive facility, understand good customer service Cons: price more

Irresponsible staff, dogs no properly supervised 1/3/2008

12/23/07 a dog escaped the facility due to insufficient fencing (gaps and holes found in fencing). This is every dog owners absolute nightmare and I would never trust my pets in the care of this facility. Cons: They freaking lost a dog more
