Exellent mojitos 3/19/2009

When living uptown we may Friday ($5 mojitos and they are the best I've had) a routine. Apps including arepas, empanadas and croquetas are all very good and the scallop entree is amazing. Service is fair, usually under staffed- which is a shame but I still love the food. PS. If sitting at the bar you can still order food and they are more attentive. There is a club upstairs late night so if eating late the music might be a problem. Pros: drinks and food Cons: slow, not the best service more

Awesome! 3/3/2008

The food was to die for, great selection of drinks, prompt service & good ambiance. They could use more desserts on the menu. It was a bit too loud for my taste (due to the music playing overhead & a big group of dinners screaming instead of conversing no doubt due to the many libations...). Definitely not the traditional Latin cuisine experience. My dining experience was on a weekday night. more

Fantastic 8/3/2007

I brought a group of clients here for lunch, and was very impressed. The layout is divided between the first and second floors. The second floor turns into a salsa club on Friday and Saturday nights. The menu shows a variety of items reasonably priced, especially at lunch. Our server, Sam, was cheerful and attentive, not invasive. I will have to come back for some of the highly regarded desserts! more

Excellent 4/21/2007

Latorre's is a great restaurant with charm and character. We've had dinner there three times in the last few weeks and every time it's been fantastic! The food is delicious -- especially the scallops -- and the service is friendly and prompt. And while we weren't familiar with a lot of Spanish wines on the menu, our waiter was more than happy to bring us two wines to taste to help us make our decision. Pros: Food, service, wine list, free valet parking more

WORST in Charlotte 7/19/2006

This restaurant is very poorly managed. NEVER have I been anywhere where I was subjected to such rude treatment! The food is bland and mediocre at best; no amount of ambiance or presentation can compensate for the deplorable manner in which I and my dining companions were treated. The mojitos, while weak, were tolerable. The caipirinhas, supposedly their signature drink, were disgusting however. There was literally only one other table in the entire place (understandable now that I have eaten here) and it still took over a hour to get our food. Our primary server was brusque and inattentive. The only other server, while very friendly, was clearly unknowledgable about the menu. Our evening left much to be desired both in the way of a pleasant gastronomic experience and in terms of customer service and plain old-fashioned courtesy. Avoid at all costs - the sooner the owners get the message that the management needs to be replaced, the better!! The food and drinks are also WAY OVER-PRICED. No way close to worth the money!!!!! Pros: -15 stars; there are literally no Pros about this restaurant. Cons: Very, very poor service; poorly prepared drinks (caipirinhas); bland, OVER-PRICED menu more

Best Dining in Charlotte 6/14/2006

This is the best restaurant in Charlotte. The food is truly unique - a fusion of Latin and American ingredients - and the service is excellent for Charlotte. I like visiting on Fridays for their Mojito specials. They have four different Mojitos and all are great. My favorite appetizer is the arepas with pulled pork and my favorite entrees are the filet with boniato in a wild mushroom sauce and the scallops with sweet plantains, black beans and coconut rice. For dessert my favorite is the Tres Leches Cake. They also have a great selection of mostly Chilean and Argentine wines. Pros: Ambience more

Not altogether together 6/8/2006

We were VERY excited to come to LaTorre after reading so many wonderful things about it. We were let down in a big way.\r \r When we arrived, there was no one around to greet us. We approached the bar where the bartender was diligently cleaning glasses, who nodded at a table ""over there"", suggesting we have a seat. The place was nearly deserted on a Thursday night at 8:30pm. \r \r We ordered the Big Island Shrimp Cocktail (the shrimp were room temp & dish was bland) and the Empanaditas Rellanas (which were delicious). For our entrees, we had the Paella Latorre and the La Locura de Polla. The food was not cooked well in terms of flavor or temperature. Each time we requested a glass of wine or the desert menu or the check, we sat for nearly 10 minutes. At one point, our waiter poured my wine at the bar and then walked away to go begin breaking down tables. My wine sat on the bar for over 10 minutes! Again, the place was empty, with the exception of 2 other tables. For dessert, my date and I ordered the Ponque de Chocolate (which he LOVED!) and I had the Tres Leches Cafe'. The presentation was great, but my vanilla coffee cake was dry and flavorless. \r \r The biggest letdown of the evening came with our check. Upon reviewing the charges, we noticed that we had been charged a different amount for 3 rounds of the exact same drink. The Greyhound cocktail my date had ordered was listed as being $9.50 for the first cocktail, $10.50 for the second cocktail and $9.00 for the third cocktail. We asked the bartender who brought our check how much the cocktail actually costs and then pointed out the obvious error to her. She said ""that's weird"", and then brought the credit card charge slip back to us a minute later with no correction of the charges. She smiled and said ""have a nice evening"". This is the same person who greeted us half-heartedly from behind a bar where no customers were sitting.\r \r Overall, I'd say that this place isn't altogether together. \r Pros: Knowledgeable waitstaff, great wine list Cons: Bland food more

My Favorite Charlotte Splurge 5/23/2006

This is my favorite restaurant for splurging in Charlotte. If I want a fabulously delicious meal and have the money to buy it, this is where I go. Excellent for romantic dates and for special occasions. The seafood is all phenomenal, especially the appetizers. (I don't eat any meat except seafood, but I hear the pulled pork is to die for.) The drink menu is quite impressive (I'm a bartender, so I rarely say this), and the desserts are exquisite-- my favorite is warm chocolate cake with homemade coconut ice cream, warm stewed fruit (plantains, I think?), spun sugar, and drizzled chocolate sauce. The service is some of the best I've had in Charlotte-- very attentive, but never invasive. Love this place! more

One of Charlotte's best 5/21/2006

My husband and I dined here several months ago for my birthday and had a wonderful dinner. The restaurant itself is funky and cool - perfect for dining with friends or for a romantic dinner. The food was just as good as I hoped it would be - everything was ery well-prepared and flavorful, just how Latin cuisine should be! Will definitely return soon!! Pros: Awesome Latin cuisine, Reasonably priced, Great wine list Cons: Limited parking more

Taste of South Beach! 2/27/2003

I have missed Latin food since I moved here from Miami, and was thrilled to find this place. Went to Latorre's on Valentine's Day 2003 and all I can say is WOW. The atmosphere is awesome, the staff so friendly, and the food--QUE BUENO! Don't miss out on dessert...the flan is to die for. Although it is a little pricey- it is well worth it. I highly recommend! Pros: Good parking, delicious food, atmosphere Cons: a bit pricey more
