Never go back again! 6/30/2010

I had used their front wheel alignment coupon a while back to fix my non-aligned wheel, but after waiting more than 3 hrs from the promised pickup time, I still got my wheel not aligned. Now, I went back again today to have both front and rear wheel alignment to be done, and I was promised to pick it up after 2 hrs. No one called me after waiting 4 hrs, and when I did, I was put on hold indefinitely and had to hangup and redial, which I then was told to wait for Rob to call me...which I waited and waited and waited...for more than 1 hr. I am stuck at work as I type this review. I hope at least I get it fixed this time, but will never return to this place again. Overall service is unprofessional! Pros: cheap Cons: always late delivery; low worksmanship more

Did a great job! 5/13/2010

They did a very nice job and did it quickly so I got my car back the same day! more

Larry/Gary, thanks for coming through! 5/7/2010

You guys are awesome. You really went the extra mile to see I met an unrealistic deadline to get a repair (coolant leak) done and get out of town on time! I was really stressed about possibly missing this meeting and you worked miracles to see that I left on time! Thanks guys!! Pros: friendly, caring service Cons: distance from my house more

Worth the Drive 5/5/2010

I live in Jackson County, so when I was told to take my car to Larry's I was a little hesitant. Was it really worth my time and gas to go that far just for quick oil change or car repairs I could get done anywhere? YES IT WAS!!!!!!!!!! Not only did they do a good job, I got service with a smile. They were all very professional, personable, knowledgeable. I have never had a better experience anywhere else and I continue to take my car there for everything. It is more then worth it! Pros: Customer service, quality work, done in good time frame Cons: Not close to my home :) more

BMW OWNERS BEWARE 4/19/2010

BEWARE: Take your BMW elsewhere. I had my BMW in Larry's shop for the equivalent of 5 days and my problem was not fixed and yet it cost me $1000 dollars. My engine was randomly misfiring and so I took it in. They recommended changing my spark plugs, fuel filter, an ""induction cleaning"" and a bunch of other horseshit. To make a long story short, it didn't work. I brought my car in again and they told me I had 2 bad ignition coils (how did you miss it the first time). *CHA-CHING*. There goes the dynamite aka my money. Once again, it didn't work. They told me to bring it back in and they would replace the other 4 ignition coils, of course at my expense. So I bring my car back, and Larry (the owner) tells me in the morning he knows exactly what's wrong with the car (I'm sitting there thinking, why the hell didn't you fix it then?). He stated it wasn't the ignition coils but the fuel pump. He apologized for taking a $1000 of my money (how sweet) and offered to replace the part with no cost in labor. The only problem is, he quoted me $800 for a fuel pump. A fuel pump for my vehicle cost $270 dollars from autozone, napa, or any other vendor. I don't want a diamond encrusted pump with chrome lining. What the true kicker is that Larry offered financing for a artificially inflated priced out fuel pump. I could make 3 easy installments for a part priced out 3 times it's worth!!! DEAL! Obviously I declined at this point and Larry suggested the ""harsh winter"" could be causing this problem here in GA. Are you kidding me? It barely breaks freezing in this state and a German car can't handle the Southern United States. At this point I was ready to take them to small claims court if I wasn't so burnt out with the entire situation. Obviously I took it to another shop. The guys down the road at Carma Motor-Sports updated the engine firmware/software (took 20 mins) and the car quit misfiring. Real Mechanics. On that note, If you have a BMW or Mercedes I would not take it to this shop. I would take it to a specialist and not someone who wants to do guesswork all day at your expense. Oh, I forgot. When I picked up my car the stick shift knob was ripped off and the doors were locked on the inside. Fun. Pros: Good at taking your money Cons: Really good at taking your money more

Good and bad 2/10/2010

Took the car for an alignment on a Thursday before work. At the very end of the day they told me I needed new front tires and new tie rods. Strange, the BWM dealer jacked up the car and tested all suspension components the day before and found no problem with it. Took it to Buckhead Auto because the BMW dealer alignment machine was down until next Monday. Larry said he ""has the best alignment guy in the business.""\r \r Brought the car back on Friday and said yes to all repairs to get it over with. Drove it Friday night and it was making an aweful grinding noise and shaking at 40mph and 70mph. \r \r Took it back Saturday. Told me a replacement part was defective and I had to bring it back Monday morning. Drove it Monday night, the noise is gone but the thing still shakes at 40mph and 70mph. \r \r Can not waste another day taking the car back to them. \r \r Cost: $80 alignment turned to $570 repair. \r Time: 4 Days wasted taking/picking up the car. \r Results: Still not fixed since the front end shakes at 40 mph and 70mph. Pros: Good, friendly and helpful customer service Cons: Too much wasted time, unexpected costs, still not fixed... more

The best kind of auto shop 10/21/2009

There are precious few businesses in this world that appreciate the customer. Sure, all of them say they do. But Larry backs up what he says with action. He and his team get the job done the correct way, then charge a fair price. If there is ever a problem, they make it right. As long as I live in Atlanta, I will never use another auto shop. more

poor customer service 9/12/2009

Woke up early on a Saturday morning to take the car in. We told them what we thought was wrong & the trouble we were having. The shop did not contact us once all day even though they had 2 phone numbers for us. 20 minutes before closing, we called to find out the status of the diagnosis & repair. They still did not have a diagnosis. Since they're closed on Sunday & we needed the car on Monday, we came to pick up the car. As they handed over the keys, they confirmed the diagnosis we had given at 8am that morning. We will not be going back. Pros: open on Saturday Cons: poor customer service more

Reliable auto center 8/8/2009

I have been using Buckhead Auto for about a year now for all of my car servicing. I have a 10 year old car, so it does have to go in for some of the larger maintenance jobs from time to time. They have been great with explaining to me what needs to be done and if there are things that I am able to safely put off a little longer if I have to. Prices are very reasonable and the service is of great quality. I highly recommend making them your usual mechanic, which is a great thing to have. Pros: Great service, good prices, explain what they are doing, more

Great Service, Honest People, Affordable 7/29/2009

We went to Larry Johnson's after being quoted repairs needed for more than our car was worth. He fixed our AC for half the price, said the brakes still had half their pad and the other things could just be fixed as needed. We were more than pleased and recommend them to anyone. They were great about calling us and letting us know the status as they determined what needed to be done and for how much. Pros: Saved us money more

Great service! Nice people! 4/28/2009

This is a total win. Great job, efficient, friendly, nice people. A great experience! I will definitely go back and they will be doing work on my car. I like their style! \r \r They brightened my day! Pros: $2.99 for oil change more

Best Place In Town! 3/13/2009

These guys are great. I had a problem with my car and took it to another place and it was double the cost to fix it! They are efficient, affordable, knowledgeable and friendly. I definitely recommend them! Pros: Easy, Reliable and Friendly more

The guys are great! 3/13/2009

I've taken my car to Larry's twice. The guys there are so nice and easy to work with. The first visit was to check out an indicator light that came on biefly. They checked my car out even the light wan't on anymore. The second time, I needed a tail light changed. I just left my car with them, came back a few hours later and they didn't even charge me to change it. I felt like I was back in a small town. I'll definitely be back! Pros: So easy to work with.. Cons: ?? more

I am sad I am moving and will no longer be able to bring my cars to Larry 2/27/2009

My husband and I moved to Atlanta 2 years ago, we both had older cars that were constantly needing help. When the AC went out in my car just before a road trip in the middle of the summer I looked online for someone near my office to fix it. I ran across Larry's website, I called and told him I was leaving the town in an hour and a half and asked if he could fix my AC before I left and he said he could. I wasn't sure if I believed him or not but sure enough I picked up my car on my way out of town with ice cold ac. I was pleased with the fast service and the affordability of his service, not to mention Larry and his crew are always happy and pleasant to do business with. \r \r Since then Larry has handled all the issues with our cars honestly and we are sorry to be moving from the state! (maybe he wants to go with us ;) )\r \r I recomend him to everyone I know and thank him for all his help.\r more

LONG WAITS 2/4/2009

As a busy single mom, I can see the value of saving a dollar but being without a car for so long is tough. Not very good at answering your calls, seems it will always be ready tomorrow. I did try calling the owner but he doesnt' work on Mondays according to he staff. more

My Car's New Best Friend 2/3/2009

I'm 23 and my car is a 14 year-old Cadillac. I love that thing. Which means I've been searching Buckhead for the right shop for a while now.\r \r Larry Johnson's Buckhead Auto Center is that place.\r \r I found the shop through a Google search, and was convinced after reading the reviews. The service exceeded my expectations...by far.\r \r I called on a Saturday afternoon, got my car in an hour later, and was done by 1:30PM that same day. Sure, I only needed my coolant level checked, but Larry topped it off, checked for leaks, and even made sure my old car was running like it should.\r \r And here's the kicker -- he did it for no charge.\r \r This was 3 months after a different Buckhead shop suggested $400 worth of work after giving me a $20 oil change.\r \r Look, I hate going to the mechanic like most other people. But this is actually an experience I can look forward to when I need my car fixed. It's the kind of service that gets me to come online and write a review like this.\r \r You can't go wrong with Larry. Go there. Pros: Comfortable experience, convenient location, shuttle service more

Most Honest Mechanic in Atlanta 2/2/2009

Have a strange sound in your car? I've taken it to other mechanics who have tried to rip me off, telling me it costs $800 to fix along with how serious and dangerous it is.... I've taken it to Larry, he's diagnosed it correctly, and told me that it is not anything to worry about and I don't need to pay for anything. Often times, I've gone in there and he's done work for free. He is a great guy and stands by his work. But the best thing is HONESTY. Knowing that if you gotta pay for something, you're not getting ripped off. Pros: Most Honest, Most Qualified, Will Fit you in at a moment's notice, polite, professional Cons: can't think of any more

I will be a return customer! 1/27/2009

I am glad I found Larry. I almost took my car to Just Brakes but after reading the reviews here I decided to give Larry a chance.\r \r I was in and out of their fairly easily and was given a lift after dropping off my car.\r \r The only negative is that while I took my car in for brakes, I was told I needed other fixes to my car costing around $250.00. Since I had seen the other comments here I trusted them and had them perform some of the additional work.\r \r I will be a return customer\r Pros: professional Cons: trying to upsell other services more

Very honest and professional car repair experience! 1/26/2009

A coworker of mine suggested I try Larry Johnson when I mentioned needing my brakes fixed.\r \r I had already gotten a quote from Pep Boys and just assumed that Larry Johnson would be much more expensive (I know they take car of some really nice cars, and mine is not of the calibure). However, I'm VERY thankful I ended up stopping in anyway. \r \r Larry was extremely friendly and helpful and took the time to explain exactly what they would be doing (and how it would be at a VERY reasonable price). In fact, everyone I came in contact with was very professional and helpful and for a female who never knows what kind of ride she's being taken for when it comes to car repair, it was a very welcomed change.\r \r Then to make matters even more refreshing, Larry called me after they had looked at my brakes and told me that he couldn't take my money because my brakes would be fine for awhile. I couldn't believe it! I asked if I could pay for their time and energy spent looking at them, but he said no, just come back this summer and we'll look at them again. \r \r Needless to say, I'll be going back.\r \r Additionally, my cowoker (who suggested them to me) had the same experience where LJ only repaired what was necessary in his car. \r \r If you are looking for a very honest, professional and quality car repair experience, I wouldn't go anywhere else. Pros: Very Honest, Professional and very clean/organized facilities more

Great customer service and very reasonably priced. 1/15/2009

After researching numerous other auto repair centers and being disappointed by high prices and pushy mechanics, I decided to call Larry Johnson's based on the excellent reviews on this site. I'm glad I made that call because they went above and beyond my expectations. \r \r From the first phone call on, Gary was very polite and honest. I took my car in to get new brakes and they were done by close of business. When they gave me my car back, they told me the battery was dead (I already had to jump it that morning in order to get to the shop). Larry let me borrow the jump box so I could return to the shop the next morning to have it taken care of. \r \r As some of you may know, it's a little intimidating for a woman to go into a repair shop by herself in fear of being haggled. Larry and Gary never tried to sell me things I didn't need and I never felt like I was being talked down to. \r \r I highly recommend Larry Johnson's. I promise you that you won't be disappointed. Pros: Friendly staff, customer service, reliable mechanics Cons: Waiting area more
