I brought my laptop in because there was a problem with my screen. The technician who worked on it was Chris. I was told 3 days later that the problem was my ""suspend switch"" and that the part wasn't being made anymore but it could be disconnected and would work fine. The cost for this service was to be the $60 diagnostic fee since nothing was being replaced and it was an easy fix. I go in to pick my computer up and when the kid at the counter took my computer out of the box it was in he opened it, the lights came on as if it were ON, he mumbled something about, ""oh, it's not supposed to be on..."" then promptly hit the power button to turn it off (before anything even loaded on the screen) and that was it. I didn't know at the time that their policy is to turn the computer on in front of you to show you that it works before you leave with it...of which was NOT done when I picked it up.
The next day I turn my laptop on and it says something about a disc missing...there's no disc in the drive to load so I turned it off and then back on...then windows wouldn't load...AT ALL. So I call them back and they tell me to bring it back in. Next day I bring it back in and leave it with them...another 3 days later I get a phone call from Chris saying that my operating system is corrupted and for $90 more (on top of the $60 I already paid) he can re-boot my operating system and retrieve my files. I asked him if he started windows before it was released to me the last time it had been in and at first he said yes but then admitted that he hadn't but that it should have been started in front of me before I left with it...and it wasn't. He tells me that something I did must have corrupted it and adds that pretty much anything can corrupt the operating system...even just moving it can do it.
What really happened was that when he was in there screwing around with my ""suspend switch"" he corrupted the operating system...then when I picked it up it was PURPOSELY not started in front of me because it wouldn't have worked and I was then blamed for their mistake. He gives me a ""deal"" and decides to re-boot the operating system and retrieve my files for $60 more instead of $90 more and 3 days later I pick up my laptop AGAIN. My operating system works and my photos and documents are there...but all of my programs are GONE. Including my $700+ Quickbooks. Somehow he managed to save all the shortcuts to all of my programs but NONE OF MY PROGRAMS REMAIN. So because he screwed up I have to shell out the cost of replacing all of my programs. Thanks for nothing.
Oh, and during the period of time that my laptop was originally being ""repaired"" my husband and I bought another laptop from them ($320) and an external CD-DVD drive ($70). Needless to say I will never bring anything into this business again...EVER.
