Very Satisfied - two times over! 4/19/2007

We retained Landwork Enterprises on two separate occasions. We initially hired Landwork Enterprises in 2004 to re-landscape our front yard (in Bellevue). We were delighted with the result and, so, we hired Landwork Enterprises again in 2006 to re-landscape our backyard. We are very happy with the result of that project as well. We have enthusiastically recommended Landwork Enterprises to many of our friends and family and provided positive references when contacted.. My sister retained Landwork Enterprises in 2005 to completely re-landscape her front and back yards in Seattle. She, too, was happy with the results and has provided positive references. Our relationship with Landwork Enterprises began in 2004 when we first met with the company’s owner, Ryan Kolodejchuk. At that point, we had already interviewed several landscaping contractors concerning our front yard. We were becoming very disheartened about our project – few of these contractors seemed interested in doing the full scope of work we wanted and no one had suggestions for solving some significant challenges posed by existing concrete, mature trees, etc. Ryan immediately saw the potential in our yard and had ready suggestions for problems we had identified. Importantly, he was able to take our vision to the next level and provide us with a result much better than we had imagined. Even now, nearly four years after the project, people stop by to compliment us on our yard. The scope of the front yard project included: exterior lighting, sprinkler system, new driveway, new patio and front steps, granite bolders, and plantings. Before hiring Landwork Enterprises for our first project in 2004, we drove to sites of at least 6 projects Ryan had completed for other clients. We were very impressed with what we saw. Even more important, these clients raved about Ryan’s work. We spoke extensively with two clients who provided detailed information of project scopes, budgets, and first-hand observations regarding Ryan’s skill and professionalism. One individual, like us, initially hired Landwork Enterprises to address one part of his yard and was so happy with the work that he retained them to do the rest of his yard. He had documented all of the work by Landwork with photos and showed us all that Ryan had done for him. All of the work Ryan performed for us was completed on time and at the budget we had agreed on. Ryan, though not on site during much of the work, remained available by phone and made periodic visits to the project to ensure his satisfaction and ours. His crew is hardworking and polite; we observed that many of the crew that worked on our job in 2004 were back in 2006. We were also impressed with the quality and capacity of Landwork Enterprises equipment – they had what was needed to complete the job efficiently. When unexpected issues came up, they were professionally and appropriately addressed. We continue to maintain a cordial relationship with Ryan/Landwork Enterprises and call on them periodically when questions or servicing issues arise. On both projects that Ryan did for us, we monitored the progress of the work on a daily basis and worked with him and his crew if circumstances required any course-correction. Fortunately, one of us was at home while these two projects were underway and, so, we could ensure that we got what we wanted. more

Landwork Enterprises is awesome! 4/12/2007

We contracted with Landwork Enterprises to do a major landscaping job for us last fall. Our experience was excellent. Ryan and his crew were professional, fast, courteous and extremely hard-working. Our project included the removal of an in-ground pool, regrading a one acre lot, removal of invasive ground covers, gravel, and an old asphalt driveway. Also, Landwork brought in many tons of sand, dirt and top soil and completely reseeded our new lawn. He also installed an extensive irrigation system. At the time of seeding Ryan guaranteed that if the seed did not take (it was already late in the season) he would come back in the spring to overseed to make sure our lawn was hearty. Indeed, he did return when we asked. We would highly recommend Ryan and Landwork Enterprises for landscaping projects of any size and would certainly use him again! more

Landwork Enterprises did a wonderful job for us (twice) 3/20/2007

We recently hired Landwork Enterprises for the second time. About five years ago, we had Ryan do some rock work in our side yard and were amazed at his artistry with rock placement. Some people understand how to make both the spaces between and the rocks themselves add balance and harmony to a setting. Ryan and his crew are in that group. They had also built a concrete block wall that was expertly done. So when the backyard project came up, we called Ryan. This time, Ryan’s crew leveled our backyard and replaced our cracked and sinking brick walkway with concrete. We also added some large rocks here and there, plus they added to the height of an existing granite stone landscape wall at the back of the property. Ryan designed a new wide, curved walkway that really made our entry more open and inviting. His crew formed it up and they had a great concrete sub-contractor who finished the surface with exposed aggregate. We were especially impressed with his friendly and conscientious crew. They spent hours spreading and carefully leveling the sand/soil mix that would underlay the rolled sod. When the sod was rolled out, it was cut perfectly to the curved walkway and the edges. It just looked fabulous. They even spent a morning checking and adjusting my homeowner-installed irrigation system and added several sprinklers even though it wasn’t part of the bid. Landwork Enterprises is a great outfit. I can’t imagine a better job at twice the price. more

Landwork Enterprises 3/18/2007

We hired Landwork Enterprises to install an irrigation system and plant 15 trees on our property. We have never had a positive landscape experience so we were hesitant. From the first moment, Ryan and his crew arrived, things went well. Ryan wasn't even on the job and his crew worked hard, were respectful to myself and my young children. They did several things not included in the bid; like replanting trees in another location that were being removed, placed the mountains of rock found in our soil where we had placed them, actually raked the dirt back into our lawn instead of just pushing it. At the end of everyday, my yard was free from debris and cleaned up. They even made sure my gates were closed when they left so my dog didn't escape! We will definitely have his company back to do more projects and have recommended Landwork Enterprises to several people already. more

Do NOT hire Landwork Enterprises 5/26/2006

We hired Landwork Enterprises to do our large landscaping job ($30K). We saved money as LE is not a higher-end company that drafts a professional drawing of your proposed job. Instead, your job rides on a verbal agreement of a loosely defined idea and you have to be there, guiding the process, every minute. Ryan does not bring a landscaping architect’s knowledge to the job. In fact, he seems to be lacking even the standard landscaper's knowledge of plants. Some of the plants he chose for our project were not appropriate for the sun exposure and many have died! The plants were largely planted too shallow, as well, leaving the roots exposed. We advised him we needed plants that the deer would not find tasty, yet various plants that he chose have already been devoured. The company is comprised of the owner, Ryan, and his three Spanish workers, only one of whom speaks (very) broken English. Ryan showed up on the job each day after his workers and gave them generic instructions and then left for the rest of the day. His workers drove a little backhoe erratically, slamming into our big pine trees (repeatedly) and simply ran down smaller trees. We lost at least four trees (that we know of) due to their damage and we have one big pine that was left with a very bad gouge. Due to the damage, this tree may be one that we’ll have to hire someone to bring down later, or worse: it may fall down on the house. Ryan replaced only one 10’ tree, with a smaller, less expensive tree which we paid partial labor to plant. One day his workers were driving the backhoe in mad donuts around a big stump that was to be buried. They were purposely banging it into the tree stump, trying to break the stump out! They were digging up my yard under which lay a septic drainage field that they were to be working as GINGERLY as possible over so as not to damage! The backhoe was damaged and leaked oil all over the yard. Ryan also knew of damage he and his crew did and he tried to cover it up. He proved himself to be anything but trustworthy. To top off the whole, unfortunate experience, the bulbs in the lighting units he installed burned out in about 8 days (when only lit at night for about 2-3 hours per night). When we called him about it, he never returned our calls. When we went to install one of the two “complimentary” replacement bulbs in one of the lights, we noticed that the bulbs already had a black burn mark on them. They were used! Perhaps Ryan replaces the light bulbs in his own yard before they burn out with brand new ones, and installs his old ones in client’s yards. It’s unfathomable that he’s stayed in business as long as he has. And all the while, he’s worked harder than necessary, because his jobs all HAVE to be new. No one would ever call him back for a repeat performance. more
