Editorial review from Citysearch 10/4/2013

We recently moved into a newly built house with little or no landscaping. In addition the property had runoff, drainage issues and the ground was heavy clay. We interviewed a number of landscapers with not much success. Some didn't show, some wanted to wing it without a design and some just couldn't work within our budget. Then we found Evan Blewett and his company Land Arts In Apex NC. Mr. Blewett and his company design sustainable, low maintenance, and yet dramatic landscaping that can be appreciated and enjoyed from both outside and inside the house. He visited the property several times to get a full appreciation of the topography and then presented us with a design concept and photos of plantings. He showed us what could be accomplished working within our budget. He was able to design so we could do some things in phases and yet still make a major impact with phase 1. The transformation of the property is truly amazing. The property was regraded, gutter run off redirected, and tons of top soil added. There were a few surprises during the regrading but Mr. Blewett and his crew found solutions for every problem. In the end we have a yard with a beautiful water feature, added trees, flowers, grasses, minimized the area that was lawn and all designed with easy maintenance in mind. Everyone associated with Land Arts was professional and worked hard to give us our beautiful yard. We would highly recommend Land Arts to anyone with landscaping needs, and plan to call upon them again for phase 2\r more

Backyard Transformation 3/10/2012

When we decided to transform our backyard from a drab, hot collection of miss-matched plants into a space we would love to use, we needed help with both design and implementation. We contacted Evan Blewett of LandArts based on some website reviews. Evan met with us, walked the property, listened to our ideas, and made suggestions on how to combine hardscapes, plants, and water features to get the upscale feel we wanted with low maintenance options. We decided to replace the existing concrete patio with a handmade stone design, install a water feature and plant over 30 bushes and trees. Evan’s crew worked diligently to complete the work. They were professional, competent and courteous to our family and property. Evan kept us apprised of the progress and finished the job on schedule. It has been a pleasure working with Evan and his crew, they made the entire experience exceptional and we would recommend LandArt without reservation. more

LandArts - Beautiful Retaining Wall and Landscaping 1/27/2012

Evan and his team replaced our old rotten railroad tie retaining wall with an absolutely beautiful block wall. We are so happy with it. Lot's of positive comments from the neighbors. Adds to appeal of our home and works perfectly. Drains water away beautifully. Evan's design input was spot on. He also provided guidance on just the right plants to put in to give us the privacy we want, fit in the relatively narrow space and thrive in the conditions without much maintenance. His insight was invaluable. We're already having him do more landscaping work for us. The crew was outstanding too - very professional and clean. more

Expert landscaping design added instant curb appeal 11/12/2010

We like to do home improvement projects ourselves, but we were at a loss when it came to improving our outdoor landscaping. We had several challenges in our yard, including a steep hill going to the backyard and lots of wasted space with ugly utility poles and boxes out front.\r \r We called several landscapers, but chose Evan because it felt like a partnership from the beginning. He provided lots of options and ideas and helped us visualize the space. He also worked within our budget and then provided all that he said he would and more.\r \r We now have a beautiful hardscape set of steps and retaining walls that make it safe to get into the back yard. Not only functional, they are beautiful and solid. The crew that installed them was courteous, methodical in their work and highly skilled.\r \r Our design also included a tree and some plantings to hide the ugly eyesores in our front yard. As a bonus, our yard is now lower-maintenance in addition to being much more attractive.\r \r LandArts (Evan and his crew) delivered on-time, within our budget. It turned out better than we could have hoped! We will call Evan again when we want to make more outdoor improvements. more

High Quality Designs/Work ... Reasonable Prices 8/18/2010

I was looking for a design landscaper to come in and give our house some major curb appeal so we can put it on the market. I had found LandArts online from reading all these reviews and decided to give Evan a call. He came out and mapped out a plan no other contractor had designed AND quoted me cheaper than 3 of the most popular Design Landscapers in the Triangle area for MORE work than they were going to do. His crew was very professional and cleaned everything up at the end and after it was complete it looked AMAZING!! He was also very helpful in giving alternative advise for any additional shrubs/trees I may have wanted in the future and what was best in the hot southern sun. Take it from a skeptical yankee that is hard to please, this guy is legit and I would gladly use him again and recommend him to anyone else looking to get some landscaping renovations done. more

Excellent and Professional Landscape Design 6/17/2010

We had a mess of weeds and poor design. Evan was able to visualize a concept for our space that made sense and requires low maintenance. His crew was pleasant and very efficient, and most importantly, he worked within our budget while still providing a fabulous finished product. I appreciated his honest advice and vast knowledge of plant materials. We are very pleased with his work and recommend him for any project. more

Fabulous to Work With 5/25/2010

Working with Evan and the LandArts crew was a great experience. We've had many home improvement projects be delayed, have problems and generally be a pain - there was NONE of that dealing with LandArts. Evan came in and listened to our plans and made great recommendations that really made the entire project a success. Evan's crew is fabulous! They were tidy in their work, professional and paid meticulous attention to detail. We highly recommend them and plan on using them again in the future for other landscaping projects. Pros: High quality, Listens, On time/under budget more

Outstanding service from LandArts 3/30/2009

Evan has an excellent eye for landscape possibilities. He is creative and shows exellent vision in his plans. Our home looks great now with his help. He gives a reasonable price quote and reliably does the job he outlines and commits to. He readily comes back to give advice after a year or so when plants have shown their full potential and freely gives advice about pruning or management....or maybe additional plantings to make things even better. We highly recommend Evan. Pros: Creative, honest, talented, reliable, reasonably priced Cons: None more

Easy to Work With! 12/10/2008

Evan and his crew of 2 did a great job on the landscaping of our yard! They got rid of our bermuda-grass ridden side yard - changing it over to pinestraw to cut down on the amount of watering needed in our yard. They moved 2 existing trees, put in shrubbery on the side yards, and planted 7 new trees, all within mulched beds that they created. The shape of the mulched beds are very appealing to the eye. All of this was done to help create a more private feeling, and lower maintenance yard. Evan was very patient as I tried to make up my mind about whether to select this type of tree or that. He also went out of his way to get an additional tree when I wanted something extra done that wasn't agreed upon in the beginning. Evan is very personable and easy to work with. His crew, as mentioned in other reviews, always cleaned up at the end of the day - even blowing dirt that had gotten into the street back into the yard. We highly recommend Evan and his crew and hope to have him do some additional work for us in the future. Pros: Very easy group to work with, high quality work, attractive end result Cons: Limited plant choice options - however - this is due mainly to limiting plants to the types that will be low maintenance/drought resistant in our climate more

We love our yard! 10/26/2008

We had LandArts provide landscaping services for us TWICE in the past three years. First they put in a water feature, patio and nice plants in the back, with a lot of grading work. They turned a ""dead space"" which was an eyesore into our favorite area of our home. This past summer we had them back again to improve the look of our front yard which had been put in by the homebuilder and the first owners of this house. We had sod and shrubs and plantings. Also, two small patio areas for accent. Overall, LandArts is reasonable and Evan's vision is spot on. One of the workmen was the same from 3 years earlier, quality people - clean up after every days work, on time to work, friendly, courteous, patient with the neighborhood children. All landscaping is drought tolerant and low maintenance (we now can assure this after 3 years!). We have and we continue to recommend Evan and his company without reservation!!! Pros: Honest, great vision, hard-working, thorough, dependable, beautiful creations Cons: Boss on site minimally during installation. Not a problem as his workers are great. more

Great Landscaper 10/17/2008

Evan and his team at LandArts are professional, honest and follow-through. They did excellent quality work for us. We had a patio installed in our backyard and also a lot of re-grading work. We were having major problems with water running off the hill our backyard and settling under the house. Since Evan's team re-graded and put in the patio we have had no water underthe house, despite all the rain we had recently. The patio looks beautiful and is great quality, we have had many friends comments on how great it looks! We couldn't recommend Evan and his team more strongly. Excellent work! more

Great Design, Low Maintenance, Excellent Crew 10/6/2008

I previously had a landscaper do work a few years back and went strictly on price, well you get what you pay for. The work previously done was not well thought out and is over sized now and needs to be removed.\r \r Evan on the other hand has many years of experience that brings great design ideas that include long term mature end results. In addition to great design he was able to put together beautiful landscaping that is stable for this area of the country and is also low in maintenance.\r \r His crew was excellent and completed work as scoped out.\r \r As far as pricing, Evan was very fair for the work, design & products received. I was not able to have Evan complete all the work I wish to have done, but his design can be completed in stages.\r \r I would highly recommend Evan for a very well designed, well though out and beautiful landscaping solutions with minimal maintenance at a fair price.\r \r Homer Pros: Great Design Ideas more

Beautiful backyard oasis 9/25/2008

Evan and his crew from LandArts did a fantastic job designing and installing what amounts to a backyard oasis for us. During Evan's consultation he listened and noted what our areas of interest and concern were, and returned with a detailed drawing and plan for our project. What we asked for was a vision, which my wife and I felt we lacked. After the initial consultation Evan was able to create our vision and then deliver it!! He also priced the job and gave us a tentative schedule for the length of the job. The project exceeded our expectations in beauty and detail, was under budget, and was finished sooner than quoted, even with a weather delay!!! There were a couple of time that something was done that was not agreed upon. After speaking with Evan about it, he corrected the plan to what was agreed upon, and actually added some things at no extra cost to us due to his oversight. Not too many contactors will do that these days. We highly recommend Evan and the service he provides. more

Beautiful design and execution, dependable and personable 9/8/2008

Last fall we hired LandArts to design and install additions to our backyard. Evan met with us and listened closely to our wants and needs. We were able to set a reasonable budget and still get most of the features we had in mind. A year later, we are still enjoying our space SO much! We have a lovely patio and seating wall that flow nicely from the deck. I can see how the trees installed around the patio will soon provide a cool canopy of shade. What I love the most is the naturalistic water feature! It is so nice to sit at the patio and hear the sound of water nearby. We even have a couple of frogs that have taken up residence! The plant design is well thought out. I love the way the ornamental grasses move in the breeze and seem to have several seasons of interest. The perennials provided a nice touch of color this spring and summer and we have really enjoy the fragrance of the evergreen gardenias that have already bloomed twice this year! Evan was easy to work with and followed through on what he promised. We love our backyard and highly recommend LandArts! Pros: Beautiful plant design that has worked, nice water feature, personable and dependable service Cons: None more

Perfect experience!! 8/1/2008

I couldn't have asked for more and have already recommended LandArts to others. Evan was prompt in returning my calls and always on-time for appointments. During the design phase, he asked all the right questions about lifestyle, my expectations, etc. His design for a new courtyard included everything I had wanted with additional features, excellent ideas, I hadn't thought of. His crew was excellent, very professional and neat....cleaning up at every step along the way. I couldn't be happier with the company and my new courtyard! Pros: Dependable, creative. more

LandArts 7/10/2008

LandArts initially gained my favor by being the first of several Landscape companies to return my phone inquiry. (I believe my call was returned the day after my inquiry, or perhaps even the same day.) The owner of the company was friendly and easy to talk to, and seemed to understand our family's needs for low-maintenance landscaping which would encourage our family to spend time together outdoors, and also provide entertainment in the form of various ""critters"" for our young child. I was highly impressed by how quickly our project's installation began, and even moreso with the level of professionalism of the work crew. The workmen were respectful and extremely hardworking, starting early in the morning and vigorously working until the sun went down. They seemed to genuinely care about doing a quality job, and were kind and courteous without being overfriendly. Evan actively supervised the job, was consistently available by phone to respond to our questions, and made changes when and where we asked him to, as minor things were adapted throughout the process. We are very impressed with the final product, as are our neighbors and friends. We now how a beautiful butterfly garden, a water feature that was worth every penny we spent on it, a fantatsic pation (Evan really did an exceptional job here- both in design and installation- we LOVE it) and an overall look we are very pleased with. \r We would definitely recommend this company to our friends- and have! Pros: Excellent workmanship and work crews, very professional, great design knowledge, good prices, great results more

A great experience 6/28/2008

Evan at LandArts drew up a Master Landscape Plan for me. He listened attentively to what I had in mind and made some great (and experienced) suggestions. I decided to go forward with half of the master plan a few weeks ago. Evan created the ""cottage garden"" feel I was looking for and he did it with drought tolerant plantings (I wanted a ""green-friendly"" landscape). His workers were wonderful - pleasant and very hard workers as was Evan. They finished ahead of schedule and I know each day with this new landscape will just look better and better. I am looking forward to doing the next phase of the master plan that will include a water feature. LandArts did a fantastic job and I highly recommend them! more

Nice people, great ideas, do what they say they 6/27/2008

We were considering re-building our aging deck but Evan recommended tearing it down and putting a larger patio in it's place. more

Has talent, but doesn't listen or write down what you want, electrical not to code....painful 5/17/2008

We had them out to provide us a design and quote on a patio in our back and then relandscape and sod front. We were very clear during the process we wanted color in the front and wanted to save existing shurbs to plant elsewhere and that one of our #1 priorities was to hide a well cover in the front yard. Budget for this work was around $30k, so no small job.\r \r After finalizing the design, everything started ok. But as soon as things started to really go in, it was clear he had changed the design without running it by us. We had a chat and realigned things, but this continued. He trashed all of the existing shrubs we wanted to relocate (approximately $1,000 worth) and gave some lame ""no serious design would include those"" reply - they were standard boxwoods. Give me a break. The well cover was still there and easy to see. And in the front of the house, was NO color. Heck - it looked like it did before, just with different evergreens.\r \r In reviewing a water feature, which we never asked for but he was insisted on having (it did look good and we love it to his credit there), he simply buried an extension cord that ran to an outlet on the deck. NOT to code (confirmed this) - his reply, that he never had problems before and I was making a big deal out of it. \r \r In the end, we do have a nice patio and water feature, so he does a great job there. But we had to have him pullout some of the plants in the front and change to accommodate our goals and I have to have the water feature electrical finished...oh, and he destroyed my drip irrigation. Said he could give me the name of someone to fix. Newsflash - don't destroy it and I don't have to pay to have it fixed. And he completely put on us to find a fake rock to cover the well.\r \r Overall, the entire process was painful, aggravating, and a nightmare regardless of how good parts of it looked. My advice, stay AWAY from this company. Unless you have no opinions and don't care about what he does. Pros: Hardscape, water features, rock gardens Cons: Doesn't listen/document your goals, passive agressive, electrical not to code, will destroy anything in the way of HIS design more

On time, on budget, great products, excellent service!! 8/23/2006

This landscaper delivered exactly what he said he would, when he promised, at reasonable prices. We could not be happier with the outcome and would welcome you to see it for yourself by appointment only. Evan was open to our comments and suggestions and made expert recommendations concerning materials for a natural-looking parking pad with stone retaining wall, stone walkway and plant materials. He and his crew moved over a dozen of our shrubs\r that were poorly placed and much too crowded. We definitely plan to use his services again for additional projects and highly recommend him for your landscaping needs. Pros: Friendly, hard working people who know what they're doing. Great ideas. Timely. Cons: None for us. more
