I am writing to express my gratitude for the services and care your facility provided for my brother William H. during the course of his stay at Lake Shore HealthCare. We were fortunate to have discovered your facility with the help of outplacement services at St. Joseph Hospital. My brother was recovering from a severe fall and major abdominal surgery, and needed physical, speech and occupational therapy. He had previous experiences in nursing home facilities that were suboptimal in his opinion and in mine as his guardian. When he arrived at Lake Shore neither of us could believe the difference. Your short-term rehab floor is immaculate and well-appointed. The staff was engaging, capable, and efficient. My brother?s room was spacious. His therapists were thoughtful and supportive. When I as his guardian needed information, your staff was responsive and helpful. Everyone, from the receptionist at the door to the nurses at the nursing station, made both my brother and me feel well and cared-for. I want to commend especially a few of the staff with whom I had most contact. Shannon Jones made my brother?s entry in the facility smooth and problem free. Brenda Gayden and Irene from Social Services showed both compassion and initiative in their care for my brother. Trisha Misra was very helpful in establishing paperwork, and at the end of my brother?s stay helped me sort through alternatives. It is unfortunate but true that not all nursing and rehabilitation facilities come close to the level of professionalism and good management that you clearly demonstrate at Lake Shore. I commend you and would be happy to recommend Lake Shore to anyone needing skilled nursing or rehabilitation services. more

I want to take this occasion to say that I have improved in my physical well being as a result of the therapy programs at Lake Shore. I spent about 6 months in physical therapy and a year in restorative. The restorative staff truly does not get the appreciation they deserve and I want to suggest that they do. more

I have been visiting Lake Shore 6/5/2012

I have been visiting Lake Shore HealthCare and Rehabilitation Center for several years, and I am very much impressed with the professionalism of the staff, especially the team work and effort to make sure that all patients are given proper treatment. They are doing an outstanding job. Several weeks ago, I recommended Lake Shore to a relative because she was so frustrated with her experiences with other nursing homes. I felt confident in suggesting Lake Shore because of my visits over the years with a co-worker whose health has improved tremendously. I feel comfortable and confident when I visit Lake Shore. With every visit, I see enhancements and a well-run nursing care facility. Lake Shore Health Care and Rehabilitation Center deserves all the commendation it receives. It rates among the highest. Please keep up the good work because you have put many relatives at ease knowing their love ones are being cared for properly. more

Lake Shore 8/5/2011

Letter from Wilma B. to the Attorney General - 8/2011 Dear Attorney General: I would like to personally thank you for taking the initiative to make sure nursing home patients and their environment are well cared for. Having said that, I would like to share with you the story of my only sibling, Janice, who is 44 years old (ten years younger than myself) and my very best friend in the world. Janice suffered a cerebral aneurysm in December 2009. The aneurysm almost cost her her life. The injury resulted in the need for a craniotomy due to swelling, the use of a trach collar, g-tube and Foley catheter. The Foley catheter unfortunately can cause multiple infections, which I have learned is not uncommon, thus resulting in a revolving door of emergency room visits. When this incident occurred, I had absolutely no insight into nursing home facilities other than the bad reports most everyone hears. I became frantic at this point and had to make a decision. I was told of a rating system on the website Medicare.gov, where one could search, compare and rate nursing homes and hospitals in Illinois. This is where I discovered Lakeshore Nursing and Rehab. I decided I would rather have my sister farther away receiving proper care, than being closer to my residence and having a cycle of continuous illnesses. Lake Shore, under the direction of Administrator Nathan Davis, and Nursing Director Carol Javens, helped save my sister?s life. The nursing staff is simply exceptional and the environment is very clean. Needless to say, my previous experiences caused me to suffer paranoia and become overprotective. Yet the nursing staff was always consistently professional, courteous and responsive. I would like to commend Lake Shore because I have found it to be exemplary. It gives me great pleasure to present Lake Shore as a facility that I believe has to rank among the finest in the Chicago land area. They have helped tremendously in my sister?s recovery and have brought much comfort to me and my family. Janice no longer needs the supportive apparatus and is eating on her own. She needs ongoing therapy, but we talk to her on the phone throughout the day and she is on the road to recovery. You probably receive many negative reports - I just wanted to share with you one that is positive. Thanks for all you do for the Citizens of Illinois. Very truly yours, Wilma B. more

I disagree: its the BEST!!!! 5/2/2011

I have to say, that when I was researching this place for my dad and came across the previous posting, I was VERY opposed to even considering it. However, what got me to go check it out was the fact that everyone that I spoke to in the hospital where my mom was at had nothing but praise for Lake Shore! Not only that, but when the doctor (my mom's primary care physician for 25 years!) told me that maybe it was best for her to move to a long term care home, he immediately suggested this place without me even asking! I feel terrible for you, KarmaLA, but it appears that your experience is very strange and out of character for Lake Shore....are you sure that we are talking about the same nursing home??? It seems even stranger to me that such a place that might have committed such acts that you accuse them of could even continue to stay open in a state and city where the government is watching them like hawks! I've seen it all too often in the papers of places that are shut down for the things that you suggest...As my title plainly state: I will have to disagree. I would tell anyone that cared to listen, Lake Shore is not a nursing home. It's my mother's home, and the staff there treat it and her as such. I was once a skeptic, but let me tell you, its worth it to go and see for yourself! more

Worst Place On Earth 7/4/2010

***Upadate 05/2012*** The truth is coming out about this place. Check the other sites and see the other reviews (not just mine). Others have seen the abuse and neglect at this place. Don't believe the 5 star reviews posted by employees. Don't trust these people with your loved ones. ***Original Post*** What these people did to my mother should be criminal (and I believe it is). In a word she was neglected. I placed my mother here for a short-term stay for rehabilitation at the suggestion of her primary doctor (a pathetic a excuse for a doctor it turns out). These people showed me their nice rooms and ""fancy"" facility. However, once admitted, we were given a room that was too large, too noisy and too far from the nurse's station. The nurses and CNA claimed to be attentive but you had to beg them to do basic things like change dirty sheets, help them to get dressed or used the bathroom. My mother was unable to walk (the reason for being in rehab), I often had to lift her in and out of her bed and wheelchair because the staff was busy. I often found them just sitting around in cafeteria on the lower level. NOT on the floor they were supposed to be monitoring. My mother was actually became fearful of the staff and didn't want me to complain due to fear of retaliation. They stole her money, talked down to her when I wasn't around and roughly handled her. I visited everyday (even spent the night a few times) to offer support and encouragement. But they staff would just lie to my face about how they were treating her, make-up stories about my mother's health, lead me to believe her weakening condition was ""normal"", When she started to forget who I was I became alarmed and had her taken to the nearest ER. By the time I got her out of there, she was half crazed with fear and from the ER doctors assessment, at death's door. She had bed sores, was septic and extremely dehydration. She was only supposed to be there for a month and they nearly killed her. Her condition was so bad that she died 7 days later. I know people are going to think I am making this up. But I would never lie about my mother. What these people did was monstrous. The fact that I fell for their lies haunt me to this day. I will NEVER forgive them for what they did to my family. I have called the city and launched an investigation. I doubt anything will come of it because they never got to see what really happened. Besides these people are world-class liars and will probably do anything to keep their doors open and that money rolling in. I beg of you, don't put your loved on in this place. Cons: It's still open for business more
