Nasty Owner! 4/14/2006

We had reservation for 7:30, showed up at 7:40 and they had our reservation for 7pm. The owner wanted to argue the reservation time, then snapped his booklet closed and simply stated ""Nope, I can not accommodate you!"" The owner was nothing but rude and nasty. He was full of himself and his hobby lobby decor. I should have expected nothing more from this Tomball location! more

Great surprise in Tomball!! 3/23/2006

We have eaten here once and going back tonight. This restaurant came highly recommended by several people, and it is wonderful to have a great Italian restaurant in our neighborhood. The chef is spectacular...food and presentation...and the owner spent time at our table and was very knowledgeable about both food and wine. more

A Slice of Italy in Tomball 2/28/2006

What a wonderful surprise...after living in Italy for 4 years and traveling the world sampling the best possible cuisines, we now find authentic Italian in Tomball! The ambience is all Italian, sophisticated but comfortable. People come to relax with their friends and enjoy the 'delizioso' cuisine provided by the very talented and accomplished Chef John. Superior Italian wine is available for all budgets. If it is your first experience with Italian wine the owner, Edd, will be happy to make recommendations. more

A Valentine Treat! 2/23/2006

My husband surprised me with a wonderful Valentine treat at this charming Italian restaurant. We are fairly new to the area and were pleased to experience this FIND! We started with the calamari which was quite unique and tasty. Our house salad was crisp and the dressing was a homemade balsamic (and served with a chilled fork!)...very nice. Our entree selections were a grilled veal chop and a veal scallopine, both cooked to perfection. We shared a cream brulee and enjoyed the intense vanilla bean flavor. The wine list is strictly Italian, but we found a nice white wine that pleased us both. We will definitely be back! Pros: Quality Food, Skilled Chef, Welcoming Cons: Bright Lighting more

Dissappointing 2/12/2006

They seemed to be trying hard, but it took about 10 minutes to get menus, and there was a long wait between courses. So, if you want a very leisurely dinner, this is the place. The Caesar salad was SOAKING in a way too creamy dressing & the snapper was tough (but the sauce was very nice). The stuffed shrimp was OK, but not great. Most dissappointing were the desserts. The creme brulee was runny and warm, and the topping was not done with extra fine sugar, so it was gritty and way too thick. The cappucino was watery and the cap was weak. The cappucino cheesecake lacked intensity in taste. We ate for about $100, half of what we spent 3 weeks ago at Ruth's Chris; but my husband summed it up when he said he'd rather eat once at Ruth's Chris than twice here. Pros: seated promptly, casual dining Cons: slow service, B- food more

Reviews do La Tavola justice... 11/11/2005

What a wonderful find in Tomball! I was looking for a romantic Italian restaurant and expected to make the 40 minute drive to either Downtown or the Galleria area. After reading all the reviews, we ended up at La Tavola. I loved being welcomed by the owner, and equally loved the menu selection, the quality and value of the dishes served , and the warm and cozy atmosphere. Service was satisfactory (I think we had a newer waiter), but we definitely intend to be repeat customers and will share this find with others. Pros: Cuisine, Atmosphere, Quality more

Be sure to make reservations. 11/10/2005

Owner is terribly proud of this little jewel... sadly, he is no gem. He is aloof and downright hard to bear... The food is acceptable. The decor is... Hobby Lobby. Pros: near Police Station, Near Junk Stores, Near RR Tracks Cons: The Owner, The Food, The Decor more

One of the Best Italian Restaurants in Texas! 10/25/2005

Wow! My husband and I just came home from celebrating our anniversary at La Tavola. What a great choice we made. The service is excellent and the food is outstanding. You MUST try wonderful soup. Our main course was a seafood dish with jumbo shrimp, mussels, clams and scallops over linguini. Try the cappacino cheesecake. It is rather unusual and unlike the traditional cheesecake you are probably used to having, but you will love it! This is a great place if you want a good meal with fresh ingredients cooked to perfection! It was so hard to choose from the wonderful selection they offer. Be sure to make a reservation! The owners, Edd and Katherine, make you feel welcome. If you see Katherine, tell her Norma Jean sent you! Try it once and you too will be planning a return visit! more

Don't miss this one 10/19/2005

My husband and I agree with everyone else's review. This place is a diamond nestled in the heart of Tomball. The waiter's recommendations and the wine list is right on target. Just go - you'll see. more

Outstanding!! 6/8/2005

What an unexpected surprise to find such a restaurant in Tomball. By far my favorite restautant since my move to the Houston area in 1984. Not only is the food outstanding, the atmosphere cozy and intimate with lovely classical and/or opera music playing in the background, service attentive but the menu is moderately priced for the quality of the food. They serve the best crab cakes I've had in years. Hats off to Ed and Katherine Miller (the owners) for bringing such class to Tomball. My only regret is that the word will get out about this ""find"" and we won't be able to get a table in the evenings. Reservations are a must on Fri & Sat. nights. Pros: outstanding food, moderate prices, cozy atmosphere Cons: limited seating, closed on Sundays more

A Pleasant Evening 4/27/2005

We fell into a babysiter last weekend quite unexpectedly. I was looking for somewhere to take may wife to dinner close to home. I did some quick research on Citysearch and came across La Tavola. What a find. Do not judge this book by its cover! the Food and service were excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive. We will defintely be going back. Word to the wise though HAVE A RESERVATION. more

Not worth the drive 2/25/2005

You've got to be kidding...is this the best that Tomball can do? Taco Bell has better Italian food and much better service! more

Impressed 8/18/2004

After reviews here, I went to check out the little italian joint in Tomball. I was quite impressed by the service and the food. The wine selection is broad but not so much that it's intimidating. The decor is not your stereotypical italian joint, and you feel more like your eating at your italian friend's house instead. It's a good place for conversation/first date I think. more

A nice Table 6/29/2004

La Tavola provided us with a very pleasing surprise. While my date selected the snapper encrusted with pinenuts (and she almost swooned), I asked Edd for a suggestion and received the seared sea bass with scallops. I didn't lick the plate, but was very tempted. (The chef used to grace the kitchen at Grotto, which explains much!) Take the drive, arrive early enough to walk through some of the Tomball shops and finish the evening with a great meal. You won't be disappointed at all. Pros: Food, Service more

One Word...Amazing!!! 5/8/2004

Absolutely the best Italian food I've ever had. The service is unbeatable not to be outdone by the food. Don't miss out on La Tavola, you won't be disappointed. Pros: Food, Service more

An incredible dining experience 5/8/2004

As we turn the corner to see this little house/restaurant we had no idea we were about to have the best Italian experience. The setting was inviting, the food was unbelievable and the owners/waitstaff feel more like family than anything. The best family dining experience ever!! Thank you for a wonderful Mother's Day memory. The Browns Pros: Cuisine, Atmosphere, Attitude more

Best Italian in Houston..period! 2/25/2004

La Tavola is simply the best Italian restaurant in Houston. Every dish is unique and exquisite in its own way. The service is absolutely unbeatable. It is a small, cozy restaurant with a genuine Italian atmosphere. Their Sunday brunch in wonderful and everyone should try the special Cappuccino Cheesecake dessert. more

Don't let the facade fool you! 11/10/2003

This place is amazing! Pecan crusted snapper is the most incredible! Service? I couldn't decide between my favorite pecan crusted snapper or the lobster stuffed ravioli with brandied cream sauce so the waiter said he'd surprise me! Boy did he...He combined the two! The chef is more than happy to oblige you with fresh fruit or any special items if you call in advance. Very intimate. Great for a special evening with friends or family. Pros: Intimate, Gourmet, Individual attention Cons: Pricey but worth it, May be a long drive more

Mrs. Chris B. 10/9/2003

Absolutely the best Italian in all of NW Harris Co/Woodlands/Conroe area. Everything on the menu is superb, Italian wine selections are very good, Chef John whips up delightful daily specials (the bisque soups are to die for!) and service is superior to every ""fine"" restaurant we've visited in Houston. Everything is fresh and these people aim to please. I can't say enough good things other than if you really want to have an enjoyable lunch or dinner eating really great food, you gotta come here. Value is also better than the ""finer"" dining establishments of Houston. It's worth a trip from Houston to eat here. (I especially enjoy NO distruptive children here.) Pros: Excellent food, Great value for price, Superior service Cons: Only Italian wines more
