Cafe De Olla & Drunken Eggs (Huevos Borrachitos) 1/17/2010

Heck with Starbucks or CoffeeBean! The cafe de olla at La Parilla is so delicious, you will be totally amazed at how flavorful it is; the cinnamon, the aniseeds, the brown sugar all brewed in a earthenware pot (olla), hence the name ""Cafe De Olla"". You cannot just have one cup. It's a great place to enjoy a hearty and spicy traditional Mexican Breakfast. I just love the Huevos Borrachitos, which are eggs over-easy, fried on homemade corn tortillas, with a melted green chile cheese sauce that is poured generously all over the eggs, served with rice and beans and chips, and homemade tortillas. Come hungry, because you will totally be satisfied with the various choices of grillled meats and homeade sauces. I prefer to come here for breakfast. The delicious grilled meats and fajitas are what this place is known for! I get tired of the musicians that come in and want to sing norteno or mariachi music! Pros: So Many Excellent Choices Cons: Annoying Norteno Musicians - no tequila margaritas more

Talk about authentic Mexican food 7/3/2007

My family and I have been coming to this place for years! It is the closest cooking to my mom's I have found anywhere in the L.A. area. Everything is prepared upon your arrival from the tortillas, guacamole, and salsa (call ahead for this one). The service isn't always up to par but the food is worth the wait. You won't regret it! Pros: The fresh Salsa, Gucamole, price Cons: Service is always prompt more

BEST MEXICAN I EVER HAD!! 5/19/2004

THIS RESTAURANT IS ONE OF THE MOST AUTHENTIC MEXICAN RESTAURANTS I HAVE EVER BEEN TO. THE RESTAURANT HAS A VERY HOMELY ENVIRONMENT, AND IS ALSO THE TYPE OF PLACE YOU CAN GO TO WITH YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER AND FIND ENTREES SUITABLE FOR 2, PRICE RANGED BETWEEN $20-$45. PERFECT SPOT FOR GROUP EVENTS, OR A QUIET DINNER FOR TWO. Pros: DECORATIVE WALLS, DELICIOUS FOOD, AMICABLE PEOPLE more

Authentic Mexican Experience 1/4/2004

What a great little place out in East LA. I don't think I have ever been made to feel more welcome at a restaurant before. My corn tortillas were made on the spot just for me by a smiling older lady. The flavorings of their food was unlike other Mexican restaurants in a good way. I attribute this to their authenticity. Pros: fresh tortillas!, authentic flavors, welcoming service more

you want authentic? this is it 8/5/2002

the food is excellent, the service is good and the ""parilladas"" are the best! you can get steak, pork short ribs, chicken, cornish game hen, chorizo, and tripas! all cooked just right... more

A warm welcome home. 5/20/2002

La comida at La Parrilla is second only to my mom and grandma's cooking. The fresh tortillas de maize (corn tortillas) and guacamole y salsa are so fresh and good, I could eat just those for dinner. Don't get me wrong, their whole menu is delicious. My personal favorite, is the molcajete with nopalitos and camarones, though their beef and chicken Molcajete is just as good. Their molcajete dishes are big enough for two people to share, it also makes it a great date food. The ambience is cozy and inviting. I would agree that both the Cesar Chavez and Wilshire locations aren't that great at accommodating groups of 10-12 or more. If you have a large party, I would call ahead and make sure they can properly serve you and your guests. Pros: Authentic Food, Service, Ambiance Cons: Limited Parking, Not Good For Groups more
