Beautiful setting, poor food quality and poor service 12/28/2011

I went to this restaurant because I heard it was one of South Floridas best restaurants. It was terrible. The waiter there was very arrogant and rude. The food was just average, not outstanding or unique in any way. I would not waste your hard earned money going to this restaurant. As someone who eats out everyday, I would rank this restaurant in terms of food quality and service as very poor and will not be surprised if it shut down. more

Fantastic for special occasions 4/20/2010

At no time did I ever think to myself ""God this is too salty"" of the food in Paris. I still ache. Service is superb, we were pampered. We had a great time! 3 out of 5 stars Pros: SERVICE. Truffle. Fois Gras. Cons: i bet the chef smokes cigarettes. more

Formal French Degustation Menu with Nouvelle twist 9/12/2007

This restaurant has been on my radar for a while, so when faced with a choice for my 45th birthday dinner I choose The La Palme D'Or in the historic Biltmore Hotel in beautiful Coral Gables, my hometown. \r I consider myself a connoisseur of both fine foods & wines and this place lived up to my expectations. I brought 4 of my wines for the 5 course dinner and the staff was very accommodating\r ($20.00/bottle corkage). \r \r My pairings were perfect to compliment the superb offerings from the kitchen. The seared scallop 1st course was done to perfection and plated beautifully. For the 2nd course ,a seared fois gras with fava beans was ok, but too greasy a dish and would have benefited from a simpler preparation. My main course was buffalo tenderloin that was so excellent it made up for the aforementioned 2nd course. It was heavenly with the vintage Bordeaux I selected. The cheese course that followed was beautifully plated and they were lovely with a late vintage port I brought. The dessert menu was a real treat too! The flavored theme dishes were whimsical and delicious with the cuvee sublime Champagne demi-sec. It played well with the white chocolate plate, the Java plate & the apple plate which our table of 5 shared. The service was attentive for most of the meal and was professional, though they did get a bit overwhelmed as they were busier later in the evening. It was a 3 hour dinner after-all. I can state that this is one of the FINEST restaurants in the entire state & when you add in the perfect ambiance can make for a MEAL of a LIFETIME! more

""The French Masterpiece of America."" 1/16/2006

Only on several occasions does one discover a restaurant of such extreme high regard, that getting lost in its wonder is experienced but once or twice in a lifetime. Fortunately for us all, it exists locally here in Coral Gables, The City Beautiful, in the world-famous 4-star, 4-diamond Biltmore Hotel, which is a landmark of this great country. Every single detail of my dining experience was so profound in precision, that even the greatest critics in the world would be challenged to find anything less than outright extraordinary. The food was of course the highlight of the evening with the master, Philippe Ruiz at the controls of the kitchen. With the white-cloth elegance of timeless French refinement, fascinating pool view, and all the service royalty could ask for, all who dine here are privileged to understand why I claim this restaurant to be ""The French Masterpiece of America."" -L.A. Pros: Everything. Cons: None. more

Magnifique! 12/27/2002

""The D'Or"" transports you to France's fabled Michelin three-star eateries. Seldom in this country to you experience such an opulent setting complemented by extraordinary food and exemplary service... what a great way to punctuate the otherwise all too casual and/ore trendy South Florida dining experience. Pros: View of gorgeous pool, Comfortable chairs, Civilized noise level Cons: Dreary piano music more

Best of the Best! 11/14/2002

By far the best restaurant in town, although not as well known as other top 10 restaurants. Incredible food and pampering service in one of the most gorgeous locations in Miami. Simply unbeatable. Pros: the best food, beautiful ambience, incredible service more

  • The Scene
You might miss this spot unless you know exactly where it is--and that's what most of the regular patrons are counting on. Nestled in a corner on the lobby floor of the Biltmore Hotel--on the adjact to the Palme D'or--is a dimly lit lounge with high ceilings and beautifully designed floors. Deep-cushioned chairs hug you as soft music creates ambience without interrupting conversation. Like everything in this 75-year-old landmark, the bar is plush, making even ordinary drinks feel like a special occasion. One of Miami's best-kept secrets, this bar doesn't offer the kind of scene that tourists flock to Sin City for. In addition to guests at the hotel, patrons include regulars who relish the refuge from the usual bar scene and people waiting for dinner at the Palm d'Or or enjoying an after-dinner drink.
