Viva La France! 10/21/2006

J'adore La Note! When the financial gods are kind (yes, you won't find the cheap prices of an IHOP breakfast sampler), my family and I trek over to Berkeley from San Lorenzo for a great breakfast. My boys (6 & 4) love the the Oeufs a la Coque while my husband opts for the Thon Grille sandwich. Hands down, we all LOVE the Creme Fraiche pancakes! Though we've experienced the pains of an hour-long wait, we usually grace the place between the 8-9am or 12-2p (that way the hubbie gets his sandwich) and are seated promptly. The wait staff is wonderful and friendly. When the weather permits, the outside patio area makes a charming backdrop to a great meal. more

When Homesick for French Food from the Provence Region 10/20/2006

Coming back from France and missing it tres tres - my friend told me about this incredible restaurant to check out for Sunday brunch. All the food was incredibly done - all fresh ingredients, great coffee. Tres bon! Expect lines but the wait is WORTH every minute. Pros: Fresh ingredients, great coffee, friendly staff Cons: Loud, European set-up of tables (close to each other), Parking more

Quaint Breakfast Nook 8/24/2006

This cafe oozes with french country comfort, yet still carries a streak of elegance as well. The menu is inventive including 3 different kinds of pancakes like lemon gingerbread topped with poached pears. I had the oatmeal raspberry ones, which were hearty (I was full until late afternoon). Green table tops, hanging wicker baskets and giant bouquets of fresh flowers create a cozy atmosphere. more

French style breakfast in Berkeley.. 8/21/2006

I wanted to share with you a recent breakfast that I had.\r I'm a busy business man (from Israel) that traveling alot around the world. As a person who's visiting so many spots around the globe i think i can recomend you about many places around the world that you should go too... The thing is that always when i have some time off from work i'm taking my wife and going around the bay to visit a restaurant that friends of mind recomended. Few days ago i had that opportunity in La Note, and i thought it would be nice to share it with you. \r I entered to the restaurant and the atmosphere inside took me back to france with the smells and the people and the colors... We order sausage and french toast and we had a great time, the breakfast was delicious and the service is wonderful that we forgot that we are in the Bay and not in France. I just wanted to share that with you and to tell you that if you are looking for place for dining with decent prices and have a lovely breakfast you must visit La Note in Berkeley to understand what i was talking about...\r Bon apetit more

ANGERING experience, used to like them... 4/7/2006

i made reservations for a graduation lunch well in advance. about a week before my graduation, they called me several times to remind me rather tactlessly that if i wanted to be served lunch, i MUST arrive before 1. the day of my graduation arrives, and la note called me TWICE in the morning, again to remind me that i must be there by 1. not only that, they called three times DURING THE CEREMONY. i told them i would be coming as soon as the graduation ended, so they knew i would be in the ceremony when they called. once i arrived there with my family at 12:30, they were extremely rude and most menu items were not available. towards the end of the meal, the wait staff started to completely ignore us (la note was not closed yet) because they were having their staff meal next to us. Pros: good breads, ambience, breakfast Cons: bad customer service, rude wait staff, ran out of menu items more

Fantastic Brunch Spot in Berkeley! 4/3/2006

La Note is a cozy French bistro. The restaurant gets awfully crowded for weekend brunch, but it's well worth the wait! Practically everything I've tasted on the brunch menu has been simply delicious. The ham and cheese omelet is hearty accompanied by seasoned potatoes and toast. The coffee is good & lattes and cappuccinos are served French style in a bowl! As opposed to other reviewers, I found the service to be excellent despite the restaurant being extremely busy. If you plan to visit La Note on a weekend, make sure you're prepared for a long wait (30+ minutes minimum). Pros: Food quality, Service, Value Cons: Long Wait more

Used to be great but going downhill 4/1/2006

Pretentious and insufferable. Coincidence? The last three times we've gone, the food has been just average, and the service downright shameful. This used to be our favorite brunch spot, for what used to be fabulous pancakes and excellent omelettes. Success must have gone to their head though. After this morning's two hour wait, an uncalled for admonishment from the staff, and squished in seating arrangement, I'm over this place. Pros: Cozy atmosphere Cons: Service, Long Waits more

User review by badcatholicgirl 2/9/2006

I think my husband is in love with the French hostess, which I put up with because I'm equally enamored with the food at La Note. I'll put up with darned near anything to keep my guy coming with me to this quaint Provencal bistro in Berkeley. You have to check out the pretty bathrooms, and I promise to sit in the touted outside courtyard next chance I get."" more

A rare find 6/10/2004

A rare find these days - a cozy, lively place that makes you want to be a ""regular."" La Note truly feels like a French bistro, down to the charming garden patio. Soft yellow, green, and lavendar decor recall the warmth of Southern France, and the unpretentious, hearty cuisine is the ultimate comfort food. Weekend waits can be long, but the food is well worth it. Pros: Authentic, Comfortable, Unique more

Different in a good way 5/30/2003

La Note had wonderful, unique appetizers at my visit that combined traditional foods in ways that were really wonderful. The service was very attentive but did not interrupt or detract from the meal in any way. My companions and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinners and the entire experience. How many other places have live accordion AND great food? I have not tried the restaurant for brunch but it comes highly recommended. Also, I live about a mile away and have often seen the lines out the door for brunch. Pros: Food, Ambience, Service Cons: Parking more
