My wife and I were going on a 4 week trip to London so we started looking for a place for Buddy to stay while we were away. We found several kennels on the Internet that we were intrested in. After talking to Mr. Rowe at the La Mesa Pet Hotel we decieded to leave Buddy at the La Mesa Pet Hotel while we were away. 4 weeks later we arrived at LAX and hurried back to San Diego to pickup Buddy. We were running a little late so my wife called and talked to Mr. Rowe and Mr. Rowe said he would be able to wait a little while since had been a month since we had seen Buddy. We arrived at 6:05 pm and Mr. Rowe and Buddy wre waiting for us in the office. GREAT JOB LA MESA PET HOTEL!!!!!!!!! more

Never Bored There! 3/11/2010

I went there for a work interview, the place was cold, damp, smelly and dirty. The dogs are ""handled"" four times a day. Meaning they get taken in and out of one kennel and put back in later. The place is very old and falling apart! The owners are very rude and do not care about the animals. A dog broke it's tooth while I was there because it wanted out of it's kennel so badly, and when I asked if we were going to take it the vet I got chewed out! The owner of the dog was upset about the tooth and when called to ask what happend the owner of the place yelled at her saying it wasn't ""our fault"" that the dog had issues. They one of their own dogs there that was skin and bones, couldn't even walk! They just kinda tossed her in and out or it's kennels. I was asked to help train a dog of thiers a very sweet rotti, but refused to use a choke chain, was yelled at because ""choke chains are the only way"" to train the dog, the dog was smart just needed a little TLC I taught her using positive reinforcement to sit, down and stay with in five mins! The owners couldn't even get her to do that! \r Try PetSmart's Pet Hotel, Four Paws Flying Resort, or AMC but not here ever!! Cons: Everything more

Affordable & Friendly 11/13/2009

I actually find La Mesa Pet Hotel quite a nice place. My two silk terriers love the place & the owner & his wife are quite friendly. Not sure what to say about the previous comments! more

Disappointed! 9/18/2009

We are very disappointed with this place. First, they misplaced my dog's leash (owner said it was mistakenly sent with a different dog). Next, my dog had an ugly bald spot on his thigh that they didn't even mention --- I noticed it on the way to my car and so I went back to ask the owner what happened. He looked at it and said 'it appears he chewed himself!' I wanted to say 'it appears you didn't even notice or care when you are supposed to be watching him! I got out of there fast and made a promise never to return. But that is not the end of it --- we got home and my dog won't eat. He was having severe loose and bloody stools! I took him to the vet the following day and was told he picked up some infection and FLEAS! My dog is always current with his shots but I remember the owner never asked for proof so he obviously isn't implementing the 'shots' rule strictly. This is scary. Now my dog is under medication and I am still waiting for the results on his stool sample. I am very, very upset and will never return nor recommend this place to anyone! Pros: Accessible, Cheap Cons: Outdated, Dirty, Uncaring staff more

BEWARE!!! VERY RUDE OWNER--- TIM ROWE 12/3/2008

DO NOT BOARD HERE!!! The owner is very rude, you can hear them yelling at the dogs from across the street. Would you take your pet to a place to stay if they would not let you take a tour of the kennels!!!!! NOT ME !!NEVER AGAIN. My daughter use to work there and she quit because the management was sooo rude and did not care at all about the pets, the place smells bad all the time, if the dogs do not eat there food within 30 min they take the food away-------BAD PLACE--BEWARE!!! TRY Animal Medical Center East County for boarding, they are wonderful and will always let you tour the kennels---A++++ PLACE Cons: RUDE OWNER more

MY DOGS LOVE THE LA MESA PET HOTEL! 10/16/2008

I board my three big dogs at the La Mesa Pet Hotel when I travel out of town for business or if I just need a quiet work day at home. My dogs are always quite excited to return to the La Mesa Pet Hotel and will begin barking and wagging their tails at the mere site of the hotel. Once inside, they wag their tails like crazy at the sight of the staff, often times walking away from me with even a glance back at me :) My dogs are quite spoiled during their stays at the La Mesa Pet Hotel. They have plenty of exercise while boarding there and are kept on a feeding schedule. I know from what my ""boys"" tell me, that they are also showered with plenty of hugs and treatsl! The staff at the La Mesa Pet Hotel are very experienced and caring, they always show great affection toward the animals in their care. It also gives me great peace of mind to know that the owners of this facility are ""hands-on"" and have a life-time of experience! Your pets are in the absolute best care when at the La Mesa Pet Hotel. This boarding facility also provides grooming services and if you decide to have your pets groomed at the end of their stay there, you will be quite pleasantly surprised to see how wonderful they will look for a night on the town :) THANK YOU LA MESA PET HOTEL and the Rowe Family for taking SUCH GREAT CARE OF MY BABIES!!! The peace of mind I have when entrusting my boys in your care allows me to get my work done and know that my boys are having great fun at the same time. I would recommend this boarding and grooming facility without hesitation to all animal lovers that have pets and wish to have them treated well by professional, experienced and caring staff! Once you have boarded your animal at the La Mesa Pet Hotel, you will realize how very personalized the attention to your animal is there and how great the shortcomings at other places really are. There is NO SUBSTITUTE FOR THE BEST and the BEST IS THE LA MESA PET HOTEL!! Sincerely, Candy R. Pros: EXPERIENCED, CARING STAFF, LOTS OF PLAY, HUGS & TREATS FOR YOUR DOGS! Cons: ONLY SIX DAYS A WEEK, OWNERS HOWEVER ARE ACCOMODATING TO CUSTOMERS ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS. more

Day Care at it's worst! 6/2/2008

I was looking for Doggy DayCare when I arrived. The owner was snarling at a mid sized dog while trying to clip it's nails. That was all I had to hear for me to change my mind about using this place for anything. A grown man all flustered by such a simple task. These people don't belong in the pet business. Also, for their daycare, they open at 8:00 am. How many of us have to be to work by 6:30 or 7:00??? Avoid at all cost! more

I Wonder About This Place 3/8/2008

While waiting for someone from the auto repair place across the street, I saw a dog just roaming around outside. Not wanting it to get run over or lost, I brought it inside the La Mesa Pet Hotel and asked if it belonged there. The guy didn't even look up and mumbled something about it being someone's dog. He didn't appear to care that it was wandering around. If this is a representation of the care provided animals at this facility, I would definitely say 'stay away!'. more

Best Pet Care facility and staff! 3/3/2008

I have left my pets (dogs and cat) many times and also had the groomed. I have been very happy with La Mesa Pet Hotel over the years and my animals rush to get in. So they must be satisfied too. The trimming I get on my Cocker Spaniel is the best I have ever had. Pros: Pets like it there and the prices are good Cons: could use longer hours more

Avoid this bad Pet Grooming facility 7/6/2007

I was told to come at 6 because my cat would take longer to dry. I came at 10 til 6 to find out they closed early! I had to call the police to get my cat back (she's on meds) THEN the lady wanted to charge me extra for it! When I complained about this on craigslist an ex employee contacted me and told me that they do that often so that they can charge people an overnight fee of $20. She said that one time a lady had called to tell her that she was only 5 minutes away and the manager told her to lock the door and lock her out. She said that most people just go ahead and pay the fees, which is crazy!\r \r I have also heard from an ex employee that witnessed them hitting leashed cocker spaniels in the face, drying the animals in wire bottomed cages OUTSIDE, NOT giving the animals water or food from 6pm-6am (even when the animal has medical instructions), that they do not take the dogs out for exercise even if they are paid extra. The ex employee said that the facility is NOT under 24 hour care and the proof is that they do not let a person pick up or drop off over the weekend or after hours. This is why they had to call an employee from El Cajon to get my cat out. The place also smells and they have a large dog that is lose behind the counter, he jumped at my cat which terrified her. AVOID this place AT ALL COSTS! I have heard that dogs have even died in their care. more

Don't recommend to anyone 7/6/2007

I would never take any pet to this place ever again. I dropped off my little dog Monday at the end of the day and wanted to pick her up early Friday and they charge me for 5 full days. The lady there asked if I wanted the dog washed and I said when I pick it up. When I picked up the dog she was dirty and they charged me $28 just to wash her and clip the nails. I told the lady that I was never told how much it would cost. I questioned the price and the owner said he was there when the lady gave me the price but it was not the same lady. When I was looking\r over my dog and checking the lousy nail job the owner gave me a dirty look. I never got the rest of my dogfood back either.\r This place is out for the bucks,STAY AWAY! Cons: dirty place, rude people more

Avoid this place 10/21/2006

This place is horrible!!! Mean people and the place stinks and is just plain outdated. The management is very rude. The dog area for them to sleep is old wooden boxes. I saw jagged edges of metal and wood. Saw no air conditioning or heating in the one room they would let me into. I asked to see the rest of the place and got some lame excuse as to why I couldn't go in the rooms. Cons: dark and dingy more
