Editorial review from Citysearch 9/29/2013

First time in SA and thought this place might be good. It turns out that Taco Bell would have been better. This place has no concept of ""Customer Service"" If you try it make sure you get all the charges up front, because they charge for everything. My wife ordered a Taco Salad and did not want ranch, so asked for Pico de Gallo. When the bill came they charged me $2.50 for it. I asked the manager why this was put on the bill. He said that's the way it is and I had to pay no matter what. It would have been bad if the food was good, but it was not real Mexican food. The beans were dried out and the beef tacos tasted so bad. The salsa was not great, but it made the tacos passable. Never go to this place, not sure why people thing it is real Mexican. Just having Mexican waiters, does not make it Mexican. I should know. more

RIP OFF! 4/7/2012

Employees are running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Most of them barely speak english! Last time I went my card was over charged an amount of $56.00! Employees and cashiers would not admit to their mistake and did not apologize! The manager didnt even want to credit the money back to my account! It took two weeks and several phone calls before I got my money back. That was just pathetic. The moral of this is employees need to learn english and have no business handling money transactions! more

What a disappointment 7/25/2011

What a disappointment. When we were seated the hostess handed us a smaller menu and said that all appetizers and beer etc. were half price for happy hour. We ordered a beer for 4.25 and Quesadillas for about 6.95. We were under the impression that this meant beer would be 2.00 or so and the quesadillas about 3.50. Nope. Supposedly these were the half price prices. Really? Our quesadillas were hardly worth 6.95 meaning they were almost 12.00 for full price. We got 6 chunks of tortilla with some cheese inside. They tried to tell me that this would cost 12.00 regularly. Really? So this meant the Corona at full price would be 8.50. This was very deceptive and should have been explained better when we were seated. My girls got shirley temples for 3.25 each and our chili rellenos were on the soggy side. Surely there is better Mexican food in San Antonio because this is not it. more

A great place to eat mexican food. 3/4/2010

Relatives and friends go there to have a good meal. But it seem that woman can not go by themselves without hearing comment that they are guys. What happen went men go there do they here the same thing. It was a comment that was made a mariachi guy. I do not thing I will take mom there anymore. Just because we go without a men does not make us lesbian. Pros: best cocktail Cons: We did not like to comment of the mariachis. more

Great fajitas and customer service 3/23/2009

We first spotted this place from the riverwalk after we had dined at a less satisfying place. The food looked pleasant. We decided to tryit the next day. We are glad we did. We opted to sit outside to enjoy the music and scenery of the Market Square. I ordered the fajitas for one. Although they only come sizzling when you order for two, i was impressed. You can tell that they are a finer cut than the normal flank steak you find in grocery stores. The seasoning was also very good. The price is a little high but you""ll at least leave satisfied. There was also a waiter who was dedicated to the patio area. Our drinks were always filled and we were attended to enough but not to much. Great job to La Margarita more

Great Food and Amazing Service! 5/31/2008

For starters, the service was awesome. My girlfriend and I were clueless on what we should order. They were very helpful with suggestions. On top of the great service, the food was delicious. My girlfriend was cold and they brought a table cloth out to use as a blanket to keep her warm. Great atmosphere, I thought i was in Mexico! Will definitely go back any time I am in the area. Pros: Food and Service Cons: The A/C was a little cold..if i must leave a con. more

Fun, lively, and awesome chips & salsa 2/23/2008

A friend and I tried to get into Mi Tierra at 7:00 on a Saturday night but opted for the slightly less busy La Margarita instead. Our table wait--which we were told would be 35 minutes--was about an hour, but the Pomegranite margaritas and people watching made up for it. The chips were hot and the salsa was authentic (soooo good). Our fajitas were yummy, although they only come with pico, guac, rice & charro beans, and some sour cream would have been a welcome addition. The only negative was the slow service, and I can't exactly fault the waitstaff. This is a tourist location and, in our section alone, we saw a softball team, business people in town for a conference, and a ton of vacationers with cameras and fanny packs. If you're in a rush or highly impatient, go somewhere else (out of El Mercado), if you like to people watch and kick back in a festive environment, try La Margarita. Pros: Fun atmosphere, great patio, great food Cons: Pay for parking ($2.50 for 2 hours), long table wait, slow service more

GREAT FOOD 10/22/2007

My fiance and I decided to eat here and it was the best mexican food I have had in a long time. I live in Houston and there is mexican food everywhere but this had a nice taste to it. We had the pork with a mango salsa and that was excellent, it had different taste that explode in your mouth. I normally do not like margaritas that are blended but this was very good and refreshing, I had their pomegranate margarita. Even their cheese enchiladas was very good. I didn't think much of San Antonio but if I was to go back it would to visit this restaurant again. The servers and host were very friendly and even the employees that were not in charge of our table they were very much offering to care for our needs. This is the second time I have ever been to this restaurant and highly recommend. Pros: great food, great service Cons: have to pay for parking for the area that it is locared more

Customer service-NOT! 7/12/2007

La Margarita is just a tourist attraction for no apparent reason. The food is average and the waiters are rude and super slow. Do not take out of town guests there. They will be disappointed! Pros: Mariachis (if you don't mind paying for songs) Cons: Service more

Natives know better 6/16/2007

Tourist fare at best. Slow service even when not that busy. Even the 'signature' dishes are bland and most ordinary. Presentation is poor and unatractive, portions are far from generous, obvious that the microwave is used to heat most dishes. Dry beans with a crust on top as if they were prepared and plated well in advance. Salsa is watery, tostada chips were oily and old tasting, tortillias are the grocery store package variety. Darned shame that visitors see La Margarita as an example of the best our town has, when in reality it is well below average compared to other places that are not as well-known amoung tourists. The only charm is the patio, a good venue for people-watching. Popular among tourists, but most natives know better. Pros: Cool patio Cons: Slow service, unremarkable food, stale chips. more

Excellent 9/18/2006

Best salsa I've ever had. Green enchiladas were tasty! If you're in S.A., you must eat here for authentic dishes. Pros: Food more

Poor excuse for a mexican restaurant 4/21/2006

Our server delivered our margaritas which were blended in a blender this is 2006 they should have a margarita machine. They had chucks so huge you couldn't sip them through the straw, the flavor was pretty good. My husband and I ordered combination 1 and favorito and we both disappointed. The beans were dry and crusty and the the rice was spongy and the ground beef in the taco tasted no so fresh. The flour tortillas were horrible not close to homemade, I attempted to pick up my crispy taco which had been sitting on my plate for about 2 minutes when I went to pick it up it collapsed as did my husbands. The best thing about La Margaritas is location. They have the tourist market captured because I know there has got to be better Mexican food in San Antonio than what I was served last night. Pros: location, service Cons: food quality, taste more

What happened? 3/13/2006

I was looking forward to going again during spring break (03/13/06) but was very disappointed with the visit. I had to ask for chips and salsa twice (finally getting it myself). We didn't get our silverware before our food was delivered and when it finally was given, we received a stack of napkins and a handful of knives and forks. We ordered fajitas for two (beef & chicken mix) and bean & cheese nachos but we received all beef and the nachos were over-cooked (both beans and cheese were extremely dry and brittle). Many of the other tables seated around us seemed to have the same experience as us (one table asked us where we got our chips, one table complained about the service to the waiter and he responsed by saying he was doing the best he could, etc.). Pros: location Cons: price, food quality, service more

Bad food- forget it! Jan 06 1/8/2006

Our Jan 2006 visit proves this is no longer ""the"" place downtown. Flautas were greasy and I couldn't cut the corn shell with a steak knife! They tasted microwaved. The chicken fajita plate tasted boiled, and chicken was tasteless. We had a coupon from our hotel for (we were told by the clerk) a free appetizer and dessert. The restaurant did not offer the appetizer, and only sopapillas for dessert (which were tough). Our server was trying to rush the two of us, so they could use our table for four. We werent told of any specials, drinks, or dessert. It just felt like get out. Mariachis sing for a fee, and a photographer tries to sell you a pic. (its not prom night!) Something has changed in the whole Mercado area, and this has become a ""tourist"" restaurant, where they don't care about return business. Pros: located by hotels , outdoor patio dining Cons: food not worth it, food still expensive, pay for parking more

You must eat here at least once while in town!!! 7/19/2005

The food is amazing! We usually eat there 3 or more times while vacationing in San Antonio. The atmosphere is pleasant, staff is friendly, and the prices are great! There is nothing better than eating the fajitas and sipping a margarita there! They also have excellent family meals with all of the works! highly recommended! Pros: great food, reasonable prices, fast service Cons: crowded, loud more

La Margarita Restaurant 2/5/2004

I've had margaritas in many places, but I have to say that the margarita on the rocks that I had a La Margarita Restautant was in my opinion the best I ever had. The food was excellent also. I noticed many Hispanic families gathered at the restaurant, so I guess it's true when it is said that you should eat where the locals eat! more

La Margarita is the BEST! 2/25/2003

Just returned from San Antonio. La Margarita makes 'em good! I made it a point to have a margarita everywhere I went, Riverwalk AND Market Square. Food is good, even better after a couple of La Magnifica's. Price is a little steep, but quality is there! Service is really great, they aim to please! Pros: great seating, moderately priced, GREAT MARGARITA'S Cons: Food is mediocre, crowded outdoor, margaritas are pricey more

Viva la Margarita!! 11/25/2002
