I've lived at La Jolla Crossroads with my roomate for about 6 months, and when our lease comes up we're probably going to pass. The rent's comparable to other "luxury apartments"...

Editorial review from Citysearch 9/29/2013

I've lived in La Jolla Crossroads for 4 years. I STRONGLY ADVICE AGAINST against renting in the community. Around a month ago, my car was vandalized. A couple of vandals smashed the rear windscreen of my car with a concrete block parked in the ""resident overflow"" parking spot. On the same night, a fellow resident's motorcycle was vandalized as well. The security of the community is a JOKE !. A ""resident overflow"" parking spot costs $40 for Summit security to issue a decal. There is no active monitoring of the parking spaces, plus if you park in guest spot if overflow does not have any spot, security person leaves a notes that you can not park in guest parking since you have overflow decal. When I wrote to the management about the incident, their response said ""La Jolla Crossroad is not and has never been advertised as a protected community; the gates are not security gates."" This is an EXACT sentence from their reply without any modifications. Please be advised that the management DOES NOT think of their community as safe and residents are pretty much on their own.\r \r They do give out clickers when you sign a lease which is supposed to be used at ""all"" access points namely moving gates of the garage, elevator entrance at the garage level, main entrance of a building. However, for days at length the garage gates used to remain wide open with no sign of maintenance. The elevator access at the garage level has free access as well. On numerous occasions, solicitors could just come up the elevator and ring your door bell. I strongly advise that whoever is contemplating leasing at the community think twice before doing so. Rest assured, it WILL turn out to be very expensive in the long run. more

Security issues, Noise, but New 11/1/2007

I've lived at La Jolla Crossroads with my roomate for about 6 months, and when our lease comes up we're probably going to pass. The rent's comparable to other "luxury apartments", but it just doesn't justify the premium they charge. Here's a quick review: The Good: New construction Nice Gym Maitenance requests completed, with occasional issues The Bad: Theft, Vandalism, Safety Issues Extremely noisy (daily construction of new apartment building) Construction noise before 7am Unreliable security company Parking lot sometimes full Pest issues (rowches*, ants) *Correct spelling apparently filtered The good thing about LJ Crossroads is that it's new. The apartments are in good condition, although the walls are a bit thin and don't protect enough against noise. Maintenance gets done, though sometimes we have to call a 2nd time to get it right. The gym's good. Unfortunatley, that doesn't make up for the problems we've been having on a weekly basis living here. The parking lot is a source of lots of issues..on some weekdays the entire lot is full at night, and cars have been broken into or vandalized. One of our neighbors had their stereo taken. Some of our neighbors are great, but we have a lot of college kids and people without manners. The security company Summit Patrol hasn't managed to stop the breakins, and based on what our previous roommate told us, I don't expect much. They're a business. The last issues we've had were pests, namely rowches and ants. We keep our place fairly clean, but they get through the walls from behind the kitchen cabinets. The ants happen most often on rainy days. Lastly, the construction noise can get real heavy. San Diego allows them to make noise starting 7am, but they sometimes start at even 6am. Strangely, they stop construction around 11am-noon..probably because of the heat and sun and prefer to work in the morning when it's cool. We've complained, but they don't care. Pros: New Cons: Security, Vandalism, Noise more
