This salon is located near the Nassau Inn on Hullfish. It is an upscale salon with upscale talent using their scissors. It reminds me a lot of an NYC salon. All the employees are ...

Worst haircut of my life!! 8/19/2011

I should have taken the time to go to NYC to get my haircut. This is not the place to go if you have natural 4c/4b type African American hair. While I'm sure the stylist is very skilled at doing hair, he either doesn't do my type of hair or just had an off day. I asked to have textured hair cut off since I spent the last year growing out a little over 6 inches of hair. I am thankful that he didn't take off too much (expect in the front which is way shorter than the rest of the hair) at least I have enough hair left to get it fixed. Which means that now I have to pay $110 on top of the $85 I paid for this half ass hair cut. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS SALON DOES NOT GIVE REFUNDS. No one goes into a salon thinking they are going to want a refund until they see that the service was not worth the price they paid. They will offer to redo it. Which is fine if I just went in for a blow dry or a up-do or something like that. But who in their right mind is going to go in and be butchered for a second time and end up with even less hair on their head. No thanks. After the haircut some parts of my hair are 5 inches long, others are 3 inches and then there's the very front that's 2 inches (pissed about that). The front of my hair was about 4 inches long, 2 inches shorter than the rest of my hair because of breakage due to pulling it back with bands. No more than an 1/2 an inch had to be taken off. Because of the way my hair shrinks it now looks like it's about 1/2 long in the front when it dries. I have to say that I could live with the hair not being cut enough, but it's the front where he took off too much that really makes me want scream. I'm really kicking myself about not just taking a day off to go into the City and having one of my friends from the salon where I use to work cut it. Even though there are a over 6 stylist in my friend's salon, there are only two of them that would even tackle my type of hair without it being relaxed straight. While the stylist at La Jolie was very nice and accommodating he simply couldn't handle or didn't want to handle my type of hair. I should have stopped him when he didn't blow my hair out straight first, but I just thought that he had a different technique. Lesson learned for me. I really respect the 4 salons I've went to previous that told me they simply weren't experienced in dealing with my natural hair. Now I have to wear a wig until September 26th, which is the earliest appointment I could get in New York, unless someone cancels. I apprenticed under some great stylists and colorists from Vidal Sassoon for over 3 years. Which is why I will not name the stylist here. Even stylists has bad days and you can't please everyone. If you have 4b/4c hair types, look elsewhere. Find another natural to recommend a stylist to you. Don't do what I did out of desperation and laziness. Oh, I gave 1 star because of the shampoo. more
