Great Cuban Food 3/23/2009

Great place with excellent authentic cuban food. There is usually a 15-20 min wait on weekends but it's well worth it. The breakfast is great if you're looking for something different. Pros: Good food Cons: Limited seating more

best cuban food north of miami. 6/4/2007

Although I think my closet is bigger than this place it is absolutely delicious. Maduros, cuban sandwiches, even have meida noche bread and the best rice and beans anywhere. The cubans know not to use yellow rice thank god. the service is good enough. only problem is some of the appetizers are pre-fried and put under a heat lamp or something stay away from the empanadas and fried yucca. The cuban sandwiches are the best. Must visit if your in the area and grab a bottle of malbec from next door. Pros: cuban sandwhiches, price Cons: non really more

The food is ok. Unfortunately, there really are not a lot of good places to have Cuban food. Personally I find Cuban food better in Miami. more

Best Cuban food in NJ/NY area 1/2/2006

I think the food is phenomenal! This is the best cuban food I have had in this area. Their brunch is great on Sundays and all their dishes are delicious for lunch and dinner. I have tried everything on their menu and its awesome. Every time I have brought someone with me to the restaurant, they have nothing but praises for this restaurant. The service is pretty good and the people are friendly. The only problem is that its small and you have to wait for a long time to get seated. But you can always sit on the bar which is not bad. Thats what makes this place special..you feel right at home. This place is not for the ambience sake but its for the food. Its worth the price too. I highly recommend it! Pros: Food, Service Cons: Space, Ambience more

Cafe con leche...better than even in Spain! 12/11/2005

This is my favorite restaurant in Hoboken. The food is just fabulous - comfort food that has a twist of sophistication in presentation. For dinner, I love the churrasco and halibut with of course black beans and yellow rice. For brunch, the huevos rancheros are delicious. But the absolute best: cafe con leche (you can get it to-go, too) and arroz con leche (rice pudding). The two cons: 1) can be along wait since the place is small, and 2) service isn't the friendliest. But the food definitely makes it all worth it. Pros: cafe con leche, arroz con leche, food Cons: long wait, not the friendliest, not for large groups more

Great food with no pretense 2/19/2005

The pan seared red snapper was phenomenal! The dish was infused with many different flavors done. Hands down one of the best fish dishes that I have ever had in presentation and in taste. Also, it was all for $18. The service was a bit lackluster. The waiter barely refilled my water, but other than that I would highly recommend this restaurant. If you're looking for ambience, this is not the place to go since it is very small and resembles a luncheonette more than a restaurant. However, if you are willing to overlook those things, you will be in for a lovely culinary delight! Pros: food Cons: service, ambience more

Best Cuban 11/16/2002

This is the best restaurant for Cuban food. I have no yet found a better one in NYC. The trip on the PATH train is worth it. The food is fresh and delicious. My favorite is the garlic grilled chicken; they give you a lot of food and the rice/beans is awesome. However, from the outside of the retaurant looks very run-down. La Isla fits the ""Don't judge a book by its cover."" motto. This is one of my favorite restaurants...wish there was one like it in NYC....hmmm maybe I will open one up...:) Pros: Food, Good Prices Cons: Small, Crowded, Decor more
