Dicey credit card policy 5/6/2008

I ate dinner at La Cocina this past Saturday evening and on the previous Saturday. Both times, once we had been seated the manager explained that the credit card machine had broken ?about an hour ago? and that they could only accept cash. Hmm?if you?re going to use this old trick, at least vary the story a bit from week to week! I understand that escalating operating costs make credit card fees an unsavory prospect for restaurants these days, but a restaurant shouldn't insult the intelligence of its patrons by lying to them. La Cocina has good food and margaritas, but based on these repeated ?broken credit card machine? shenanigans, I won?t be returning. more

Worst delivery service and customer service 2/22/2008

This resturant truly has the WORST take out service in nyc. I have ordered from them 3 times and every single time they made mistakes -1st time: wrong food delivered, 2nd time: delivery took close to 2 hours and third time wrong food delivered and the correct food was never delivered....As a business owner I like to give a small business a chance to get it right - La Cocina can't seem to get their deliveries right. more

BEST MARGARITAS & MOJITOS IN TOWN! 1/14/2008

i was walking up 3rd avenue, looked into la cocina & there he was, vic vegas, in the flesh. haven't seen him since he tended the bars of patria, chicama & pipa. we got to talking & he told me that after spending two years at aquanox at the venetian in las vegas, he missed nyc. well he's back, managing the joint & creating the cocktail list. outstanding! a bunch of us went back for dinner a few days later & the food was pretty good. i've gotten so used to modern mexican cuisine the last ten years, that i forgot just how good & satisfying (huge portions, too.) homestyle, original mexican fare can be. oversized guacamole, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, chimichangas etc. and those were just the starters. the main courses barely fit on the plates. Pros: large screen tv Cons: none more

Finally, a decent sitdown Mexican restaurant! 1/7/2007

I just moved here from Austin, Texas and have been going nuts trying to find a good Mexican restaurant. Sometimes I don't want to eat from a food cart or a fast-food style place, but the sitdown restaurants haven't been able to get it right. La Cocina has been the only one to serve food that's close to authentic in a relaxing atmosphere. As an added bonus, the margaritas are really good too! Pros: good food, good location Cons: none! more
