i was walking up 3rd avenue, looked into la cocina & there he was,
vic vegas, in the flesh. haven't seen him since he tended the bars
of patria, chicama & pipa. we got to talking & he told me that after
spending two years at aquanox at the venetian in las vegas, he missed
nyc. well he's back, managing the joint & creating the cocktail list. outstanding!
a bunch of us went back for dinner a few days later & the food was pretty good. i've gotten so
used to modern mexican cuisine the last ten years, that i forgot just how good
& satisfying (huge portions, too.) homestyle, original mexican fare can be.
oversized guacamole, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, chimichangas etc. and those were just
the starters. the main courses barely fit on the plates.
