Whisper Cafe is by far the best cafe restaurants in Los Angeles. If you miss that afternoon cafe experience that you had in Paris, then long for it no more! Vivre Le Whisper Cafe!...

Honey, that's BAGUETTE. A "banquette" is something you sit on, built-in seating along the side of a wall - or in a booth. They are often made of vinyl - or, in really fancy places, leather. You may want to have someone help you edit your posts. more

Whisper Cafe is by far the best cafe restaurants in Los Angeles. If you miss that afternoon cafe experience that you had in Paris, then long for it no more! Vivre Le Whisper Cafe! Whisper Cafe is a friendly respite from its busy Ventura Blvd location. Sit among the friendly customers, their pets and staff at a patio table to enjoy incredible food! Please avoid the Starbucks and Coffee Bean nearby! This cafe has the best coffees from Italy (Lavazza) and freshly bakes it breads and pastry onsite. Please indulge on the various flavored Macaroons (Almond, Vanilla and Pistachio) which are beyond description and the yummy carrot and coconut cakes. Breakfast is a winner too! From simple delicious oatmeal, fantastic omelets with a fresh baguette! Originally I was looking for a review of a coconut cake that I saw on the Internet over a year ago and I found that this restaurant had changed owners and its name from L'Artiste Patisserie. Since my first visit, I have been back as many as four times a week for coffee, breakfast, lunch and dinner. I also have taken cakes, pastries and a banquettes home! Bravo to the Owners, Chris the Chef and Yvette. The staff, Yari and Xavier are top notch servers and will spoil you for any other dining experience. My recommendations for breakfast, the Whisper Omelet and Oatmeal, for lunch any of the terrific sandwiches on Banquettes. Huge salads! Dinner have the Lentil soup and Beef Wellington which are delicious and save room for a Napoleon and a cafe au lait! The dinner selection is top notch and offer vegetarian choices. Again save room for the pastries! Bring a bottle of wine with you or buy one at the nearby CVS. Please say ?Hello? to me, most likely I will be sitting at the front patio table enjoying my cafe and a good book! Pros: Friendly Service, GREAT FOOD!, GREAT Bakery!, GREAT Coffee! Cons: None more

Terrible Terrible Terrible 3/22/2008

Poor service. Bad food. I enjoy supporting small neighborhood restaurants., but this one really needs to go! We ordered scrambled eggs 'soft' they came 'hard'. I ordered a 3-minute boiled egg, it could not have been boiled more than 60 seconds. The toast was so dry that it cracked when you tapped it. The decaf coffee never came even when we reminded the servere. The wind blew the patio umbrella over, as I swung my arm up to slow its impact on my head, I managed to bump my son's eggs onto the floor. ( the scrambled over cooked ones). Since none of the staff was paying attention, we closed the umbrella to avoid any further accidents and told them what happened. We were not asked if anyone was hurt or offered to replace the dish. When we received the check, we were told by the waiter that he would ask if he could give us a percentage discount on the eggs that had fallen to the ground since it was obvious that they had not been touched. We waited for the check or the manager to come out she did not. I went in to speak with her and it deteriorated from there. Needless to say you could not pay me to return. The food was not good. If a place cant boil an egg or manage to scramble it to order or make a decaf coffee or a peice of toast..... well it may not be worth visiting. The service was slow. The response to our concerns by the chef/ manager was rude. I probably would pay someone to NOT take me there. Quite possibly the worst experience ever. more

Best macaroons 12/11/2007

Whisper Cafe has a gourmet selection of pastries. Did I mention the macaroons they are to die for!!!. They are now oopen in the evening which allows me to experience excellent food both day and night. The staff are friendly and helpful. I like to enjoy their savoury selections too. Don't forget to save room for dessert it is worth it. more

Great food for those who don't have time to cook ... or don't know how to cook. 10/4/2006

The macaroons are worth the trek to the Valley. It's a little known secret, but the pastry chef is also the mastermind of the macaroons of other restaurants throughout Los Angeles. Definitely try the melted brie cheese sandwich. The incredible mushroom soup (which is diary free but still creamy) can nurse any hangover of any magnitude. I recommend picking up one of their delightful dessert treats for dinner parties... it even impresses some of the toughest critics and in-laws. more

Fantasy pastries and great lunch spot! 10/2/2006

Located in a typical slightly charming Valley strip Mall locale, L'Artiste is a real find. The salads and omelettes are to die for and I live for their buttery yet perfectly crisp bear size croissants and a melody of cakes that will make your mouth drool. The real crowd pleaser is the coconut cake. I have served it to people who claim that they don't even like coconut, and they couldn't even deny. Pros: delicious food, healhy options, decatant and original pastries Cons: service is respectable, but a still bit slow more

  • In Short
White curtains hang in the windows, framing doting grandmas parading their little darlings around other ladies who lunch. Meanwhile, the takeout crowd ignores the lure of quaint tables and patio seating. The two worlds merge at the L-shaped pastry cases, one filled with breakfast treats like muffins and croissants, the other displaying tarts and macaroons. Fresh baguette sandwiches and a host of salads are popular lunch choices. Omelettes filled with fancy cheeses and veggies make all-day appearances.
