With retirement fast approaching , I recently met with financial advisors from five local firms. I eventually chose the rep from L&M Fianacial in Amherst because he seemed to be the most knowledgeable, professional, and unbiased of the five. The first two people I met with turned out to be "agents" of big insurance companies, one guy I met with wanted to charge both fees for his advice, and commissions on the products he "recommends", and the other "advisor" i saw was obviously clueless about my benefits and pension as a government employee. The L&M rep had thousands of mutual funds to choose from, as well as all the big insurance company's products (even those offered by the first two "insurance agents" I had met with). I liked the fact that L&M is a local, family owned business, and was pleased to learn that my new L&M broker actually has a degree in Federal employee benefits. I suggest you save the time, and call L&M first.
