Editorial review from Citysearch 1/26/2014

I've been going to this place since the last century. I like it. It's the only all-you-can-eat sushi place I recommend to people. Unfortunately, it's going down hill. Today is my birthday. I brought a party of 11 to eat and celebrate. I arranged to go early (5:30PM) before it was busy, even though it's a Sunday. We ordered a big batch of sushi for 9 of us by 5:45. I personally ordered two cut rolls, some sushi, and a hand roll. I got the sushi and a roll about twenty minutes later. Then I waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. Finally after more than 30 minutes of not getting food, I went and approached the manager. Henry is his name. He says he's the owner. I've never seen him before, I'm used to an older Korean couple there as management. Instead of apologizing and taken care of it, he told me they were doing it. I told him it had been 30 minutes since I had received food. He didn't care. Meanwhile, another table close to us also complained that they had not received for for 30 minutes. There were 31 people in the place and 3 sushi chefs. You think he'd be a smart enough owner/manager to assign one sushi chef to our party, one to the other 1/3 of customers at tables and one to the sushi bar. No. Instead I got dirty looks from him and at least one sushi chef as I waited for food. It took 1 hour and 30 minutes for me to get the hand roll I ordered. Two of the other families with me also didn't get all that they ordered. Henry came to our table and told us we'd been there more than an hour and he could check the cameras to prove it. I again informed him that I hadn't received my food from an hour plus ago. He didn't care. I was calm and polite telling him I was unhappy. He showed no empathy. I can't believe this guy owns the place! Is he the new owner? While I was there waiting for my food, three tables and two couples at the sushi bar finished and left. All this happened before I got item three on my list of six. I'm really flabbergasted. I used to love this place. When I complained again, he tried to shoe me out. Then he got loud, mumbled effing something or other and threatened to call the police. Henry this is how you treat your loyal customers who have been coming for 15 years? Henry, this is how you run your business? I'm a small business owner as well. I worked today and closed my shop at 3 PM...guess, what? When I was locking the door some customers arrived who drove all the way down to Granada Hills from Palmdale. Did I tell them to go home we're closed? No! I opened the door and sold them what they wanted. While they were there, more customers came in and I took care of them. This is how I treat my customers. If you see Henry, tell him I said ""hi."" I'll send him a customer service book for his birthday. Oh yeah, he banned me from the store for voicing my valid complaints. Thanks for the birthday memories, Henry.\r p.s. Our waitress was good and apologetic. I tipped her well and told her not to share the tip, it was for her only. more

Big mistake! 6/19/2011

This place was very expensive and the food was very low end. They charged as much money as an expensive restaurant for each entree, and all you got was a little bit of thin, flavorless chicken drenched in cheap teriyaki sauce, a little bit of shredded lettuce, and a dry, tasteless California roll like the kind you would get in a cafeteria. We tried to order an appetizer for our baby, and the waitress kept marking up the price because we wanted rice instead of lettuce, and we paid more for the appetizer than you would pay for a whole entree in a nice restaurant. Our baby didn't even like it and would not eat any of it. So we asked for a sliced orange for our baby to eat and they refused to sell a sliced orange separately (for a baby!?) We could have gotten a much better meal somewhere else for only 1/3 the price, and that's not even including the tip, because I didn't leave one... more

WORST PLACE!!! 2/15/2009

BAD FOOD, HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. The sushi was OK and some was even BAD (depending on what you have). I went for the first time on Valentine's Day because I heard it's a great place. I walk in and the place looked horrible. I even put that aside and decided to give them a chance. I swear the place was packed with only 3 waitresses. You can't ask any questions or be served nicely. This place is a zoo. I had to ask them to bring me soy sauce when they brought me the edamame. Who eats it without soy sauce? When they brough the sauce they didnt bring a little plate for it and I was forced to just put it all over the edamame. And the waitress didn't even know what table ordered what. Five times they brought us good that we didn't even order and say is this yours? And then they finally bring your by trying to get your order right. Their food isn't even great only fresh. There are 10 other sushi places within a block away and they are not great competition. Go to Shogun sushi across the street or midori (3 locations on ventura). I have been to many as in 20 sushi places from encino to l.a. so I know what good and bad sushi is. I eat at least 3 times a month. After we ate and the lady brought us the bill which was about 70 dollars, we put a hundred dollar bill. The waiter comes back and tells us they can't except this bill because it was one of the older hundred dollar bills. Are you kidding? Money is money. After highlighting the bill with those special markers and the signs of a real bill showing the waiter comes back and tells us still that he can't except it. I had to tell them to use that pen and when they did and it worked they still said no. Then whats the point of having that pen or even using it? Cons: EVERYTHING more

HORRID, RE-USED GINGER!!! 8/21/2007

OK.....let me say this. I HATE THIS PLACE WITH HEATED PASSION. Pros: parking Cons: everything about the restaurant more

terrible service, talks bad about you in Korean. 8/19/2007

i came here because it was close to my home. They got my order wrong and brought out the wrong thing. It took them 20 minutes to give me the right food. The service was terrible. The owner definitely does not know how to run a business. She actually was saying rude comments about our table in Korean (its a Korean owned Japaneses restaurant). She didn't think i was Korean, until i said something about it to her. She just ignored me and started cleaning our table while rolling her eyes. Do not go here. The food is really overpriced for the low quality rolls and fish. My friends and i are definitely not going back here. Pros: parking Cons: expensive, terrible management and slow service more

One of the worst sushi restaurants in the valley 4/15/2007

I found Kyoto Sushi online, read the reviews and went to eat lunch. It was one of the worst sushi restaurants i've ever been to. I've ordered several rolls and a few sushi dishes to start. The prices were high for a restaurant that had no ambiance. It was just a plain restaurant in a strip mall, nothing special at all. I didn't know how the food tasted, I didn't want to spend too much money. I was glad that I didn't. Everybody makes california rolls and this one tasted a little off. Even my 6 year old son said that he didn't like that taste. Pork cutlet was very salty and overly sweet. Spider roll was very fishy. Spicy scallops were fishy, not so spicy and too sweet. Pros: was close to my house, ample parking, no customers so we got my food fast Cons: funny tasting food, bad service, high price more

The best all you could eat sushi place 9/16/2005

I was taken here for my birthday 07/12/05 and loved the food and how fresh it taste. I have made it a habit to go at least once a week to treat my taste buds. I love this place and have recommended this to everyone I know . If you are trying sushi for the first time this is the place to go. Pros: All you could eat, Friendly staff, 11-2pm & 5pm -10pm Cons: Closed 2pm-5pm more

At Least Once a Week 7/8/2005

Once a week I go to this place that has an all-you-can-eat sushi deal for $25. The sushi menu consists of a plethora of sushi. Their ingredients are fresh and they got an ""A"" from the city. An ""A"" grade is crucial for a sushi restaurant. Their rolls are a generous serving. My favorites are the Tiger Roll, Honey Roll, and the O'Baby Roll. Their fish is fresh, and they always use new batches of rice. The service is superb: the waiters are at your service and they are quick to respond. The sushi chefs are fast and excellent: especially Danny. If you can get a seat at the sushi bar, ask for Danny - he's entertaining and a fast and thorough sushi chef. Make sure you bring an imaginary microphone with you and hand it to him because he'll put on a show for you. Pros: Sushis, Sushi Chefs, Price Cons: Busy more

Best spicy tuna hand rolls!! 11/29/2004

This is the best suhi joint I've been to yet. I've tried fancy shmansy places and those mom and pop hole in the walls and this is the most freshest, tasty sushi I've had. I highly reccomend Kyoto. more

hmmm...all u can eat sushi. 4/29/2004

When you see ""all you can eat"" ANYTHING...it cant be top quality. By the nature of it being that way... Ive been here 3x..and it is NO WAY the best sushi in LA..nor is it even close! The people working there arent even japanese! Its a friendly restaurant though, and the value for what you get is actually not bad if you are use to average sushi. The last time i went there, something i ate didnt work well with my tummy....c'mon...if some sushi can cost $10 a piece...imagine what quality a $25 ""all u can eat"" gets ya! Kabuki sushi over at Reseda is way better or even Go Sushi at Canoga...and if you can drive down to Santa Monica, try Echigo or Sasubuni. Now that's good sushi. Pros: cheap eats.., friendly staff, good location more

FRESH FISH 9/12/2002

This sushi bar is fun and inexpensive. All you can eat in one hour for about $25.00. Everything is very fresh and tasty. We've now been many times, usually go once a week. The service has always been good and the people friendly. For those of you who don't eat sushi, you can have the all you can eat terriyaki chiken and tempura, or order from the menu. Pros: Inexpensive Cons: Can be noisy more

THE BEST SUSHI IN LA 7/20/2002
