Kurama is a casual, serve-yourself sushi restaurant. Don't expect anything fancy here. The sushi is on little plates (color coded for price) on a rotating belt, and you grab what ...

No frills, but good food, & pretty inexpensive for a lunch in the Franklin Street area. I'm not a huge sushi person, but I enjoy their food! When I've been, the service has been great... not slow like others have mentioned. more

Inexpensive and good 6/10/2011

I enjoy eating at Kurama ( the one on Columbia Street in Chapel Hill). The prices are good and the food and sake are reasonably good as well. It is a nice after keiko place to go for conversation and a bite (and a sip) for a small group. Not a lot of seating for large groups though. more

Inexpensive and good 12/9/2008

Someone mentioned getting crunchy avacado... if you're getting avacado in your sushi you should re-think what makes good sushi. Try the nigiri style sushi. It is inexpensive and good. also the Una-don is very good. I recommend this place for an inexpensive place to go. We go there after kendo practice at UNC quite often. Pros: inexpensive yet still very good. Cons: service can be slow at times. more

Cheap, Good, Eats. 9/30/2008

I like this sushi place. The service is a bit slow, but the food is great and fresh. Plus, it's inexpensive as sushi goes. The sushi chef always says thanks and says goodbye to you too, which I think is nice. I just wish they had better service. Pros: Great food, good value. Cons: Poor service, strange ambience. more

So it's not fancy. . . 12/18/2002

but it is fun. There are some things that I would not eat there, but if you ask for special things, you know it is made fresh! And not many places will fix natto without a big fuss. It gives a sushi/Japanese fix without breaking your wallet. Be sure to tried the tempura fried sushi - it is good! And the eel bowl is a good value for eel fans. It's not romantic or exotic, but it is a good time to eat cheap and enjoy being in Chapel Hill. Pros: cheap, entertaining idea, easy way to try sushi Cons: service is variable, drink choice limited, avoid when UNC is in more

sushi-go-how long has it been there?? 8/29/2002

After eating at the Unimpressive Kurama Express, I felt cheated. I paid full price for a 1/2 order of california rolls, avocado is NOT supposed to be crunchy. Also they could add broth to the water they serve the udon in. There is no telling how long that has been rotating. If you want fresh, look elsewhere. more
