Fast and Fresh Food 7/26/2007

I've lived in the area for many many years and I always loved their food. All new comers to the area are just finding out about this spot. People from all over Brooklyn come to Kum Kau because they know good food when they taste it. So as far as I'm concerned this is one of the best fast food chains I've been coming to and will still come for years to come.Their shrimp are always fresh and large in their dishes. I give them two thumps up always. Keep Up The Good Work Kum Kau!!!!!!!!!! Pros: Great Food Always Fresh Cons: No Delivery more

Best Chinese in the city 7/12/2007

We LOVE Kum Kau - when we first moved to the neighborhood several years ago, it was the one place we could count on for consistently great food. The food is delicious and FRESH, and the portions are huge. There's no delivery service - take-out and in-restaurant dining only - and yet they're always busy! When you taste the food, you'll see why. My favorites are the General Tso's shrimp and the kung pao chicken. YUM!!! Pros: Delicious, fresh food, fast prep, Cons: no delivery more

Great Chinese in Brooklyn!! 9/22/2006

This is great spot for late night dinner. The food is good even though the decor is not all that great(even though they recently did some work) but it is still romantic. I had the spicy beef and the pau pau platter which is delicious. Every one in Brooklyn goes here. The prices are reasonable. We found a parking spot right outside of the restaurant but that was at night it is definitely harder during the day. This place is good for kids, dates and for everyone else. The service was good also, we were seated right away. No reservations are necessary. Pros: Price, huge portions, great food more

Best Chinese food in Brooklyn, HANDS DOWN! 7/2/2006

I ABSOLUTELY HATED chinese food before I ate at Kum Kau. One night I was very hungry and was in the mood for Lo Mein noodles. I hopped on Citysearch and read the reviews on this restaurant. After reading I set aside my feelings about the typical Chinese food restaurant in NYC...dirty environment, greasy food, and the fear of the chicken wings being pigeon wings. Kum Kau is the OPPOSITE OF ALL THESE THINGS. Their food is fantastic. Please try it! Pros: Good Food Cons: Long Lines, Parking more

The best Chinese Food in Brooklyn 5/22/2006

I personally prefer the General Tso's Chicken. However, there is nothing on their menu that is not made well and tastes good. This is the Best Chinese restaurant in Brooklyn. The fast food side stays busy. I have never been in there when there wasn't a crowd waiting for their order. But I've never had to wait more than 15 minutes. The best option is to call your order in ahead of time at the fast food side. Pros: excellent food Cons: long wait more

3 GENERATIONS AND COUNTING... 5/14/2006

I am part of a Kum Kau tradition. My family and friends adore Kum Kau. My father, GRHS, was quite a familiar face and now I'm also following in the tradtion of enjoying their food and service (Rebecca is great). more

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST 11/28/2005

My husband and I have been loyal patrons of Kum Kau for the past 30 years and the quality of service, food, and hospitality is exceptional! In 30 years, we've yet to find a Chinese food restaurant that compares. There is a constant flow of customers; the kitchen area is opened (no plexiglass) for you to observe food prepration; the food is always fresh; the ennvironment is clean/bright; you are sure to meet up with an old friend or neighbor while you're there. They also cater! There's even a children's book written about this Brooklyn restaurant - Big Jimmy's Kum Kau Chinese Take Out"" by Ted Lewin. Unfortunately, I have not eaten in the ""sit down"" restaurant as yet (approximately 4/5 years old); but if it's anything like the take out, I can expect superb service. As the old adage goes, ""You've tried the rest, now try the BEST"". Pros: Food is excellent, Efficient service, Reasonable prices Cons: Parking a problem more

the best 10/29/2005

The best Chinese food in NYC. PERIOD. Nobody is as fresh as Kum Kau. Pros: great food Cons: long wait more

The only Chinese food for me 8/6/2005

Seriously I will not eat chinese food unless it is from here. Everything is fresh. The food turns over very quickly...you may have to wait a bit for service but you will not be disappointed with the food. more

The Best Chinese food!!! 4/21/2005

I live in the Bronx and everytime I come into Brooklyn I stop by for the chinese food!!! The food is great...I usually have the General Tso's Shrimp...nobody does it like they do it...I recommend this place to everyone! more

NYC'S BEST! 8/5/2002

Simply put...the best Chinese food I have ever had. I particularly enjoy the General Tso Shrimp. From what I hear, people who come from D.C., California, and elsewhere all stop by Kum Kau when they hit N.Y.C. Well worth the travel. more
