A sushi fanatic's favorite 5/6/2009

Koyi's has been our favorite sushi restaurant in Minnesota for the past 7 years. The sushi menu is excellent. Some of my favorites are salmon carpacio, number 9 roll and salmon tempura roll. Our service has always been excellent and the sushi chef is very friendly. I have tried 90 percent of the local sushi restaurants and I feel that Koyi sushi is far superior to their competion. Pros: Best Sushi in the Twin Cities more

Fast, friendly, fantastic! 2/24/2009

I have a fairly good background in sushi, and most of my friends thought I was rather strange for going for seafood so far inland, but the food was great! My boyfriend had never had sushi before and while he is not a full blown convert, he was really impressed. more

Great sushi! 2/22/2009

Great sushi and if you go for their happy hour, you can get some drinks and sushi at reasonable prices. Can't wait to go back. Pros: Good value for what you get/pay for. Cons: Have not found one yet. more

Inexpensive but good! 1/29/2009

Ambience, parking = lame! more

Best sushi in TOWN 10/22/2008

Love Koyi sushi 9/19/2008

I love this place. Great place to bring a big group of people. Their service is good and the amazing atmosphere that they have going on. It is great. Everytime someone is throwing a birthday this is the place we all meet at. more

Love the sushi here, great service, good happy hour! 4/26/2008

Koyi sushi is one of my top favorite sushi restaurants. I always have great service here, the sushi is always fresh with great presentation. The restaurant has good ambience, nice music and a great happy hour to boot! Happy hour is 5-7:30 I believe and has $4.25 sushi rolls and cheap drinks. I highly recommend Koyi and love to go here in small or big groups. Try out the white tuna, it melts in your mouth! Num! Pros: Pretty much everything about this place. Cons: Parking, either find a meter or park in the ramp nearby. more

Good Sushi, fine service 1/19/2008

I had a fine experience at Koyi Sushi. The sushi was fresh and delicious and the service was up to par. My companion ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and our waitress came back and told us that they were out, on a Thursday night- that was disappointing on many levels. They have some creative rolls, and while I didn't try them all, they sound wonderful. I generally see a full restaurant as a good thing, Koyi Sushi was pretty empty so I was a bit concerned; I figured being a Thursday night had something to do with that. All in all, if you are near Koyi, stop in and try a roll or two- I don't really see a reason to go out of your way to try Koyi Sushi as there are many other sushi restaurants to try first, but don't put it off your list if you are looking for a new sushi experience in Minneapolis. Pros: great location in Minneapolis, good sushi more

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! 12/8/2007

We went to Koyi after reading such good reviews online. Honestly we were disappointed with all aspects of this place. The first hint should have been when the appetizers came out within seconds of ordering. The edamame tasted like dishwater and as though it had been sitting out for hours. The sushi was FAR from fresh and the rice was mush. The spicy tuna roll was deplorable. The tuna looked like it came out of a can and was covered in God knows what spices which soaked into the rice signaling that it had been sitting there for hours. We left without finishing any of the food and let the staff subtly know how poor the experience was. Not that we expected anything, but the waitress seemed emotionless about our complaints and obviously didn't relay our feelings to the management. If she did no one took notice. There is nothing worse than a terrible sushi experience. Spend the extra $$ and go to Nami or Azia. The only good part about Koyi is that it is directly across the street from Pizza Luce, which is where we ended up eating and drinking away the Koyi experience. Pros: Pizza luce across the street Cons: everything more

Excellent rolls 11/2/2007

The wait staff is very friendly and ready to offer their favorite items. The fish was very fresh and presentation attractively arranged. We first ordered two rolls and were going to order a third. I am so glad we didn't as they were HUGE. I only wish my stomach was bigger to order more. I also would recommend the green tea fried ice cream and the sake margarita. Cons: The pay lot next door is a little steep. more

Great sushi! 8/10/2007

We were very impressed with Koyi Sushi. We definitely got alot of sushi for the price. We ordered two specialty rolls and two other smaller rolls and we were stuffed! Total was about $45. The shrimp tempura roll was awesome. We got there early so there was no problem getting a table, but before we left the place was full. Overall, a great place, great atmosphere, and great sushi! We will be coming back again. more

Great sushi choices & good place for vegetarian options... 2/20/2007

I've been to Koyi three times and will continue to go back!! The wait staff can be a tad slow, so keep that in mind if you need to be somewhere after dinner at a precise time- but for a leisurely meal, it is most excellent! I highly recommend the 'Marylin Monroll""!!!!! Pros: Options and cute ambiance Cons: If in a rush, wait staff can be a bit slow more

Great Food!!! Great People!!! Great Time!!! 12/24/2006

We went on a Saturday night, not crowded and a nice location with parking close by on the same street as well as plenty of street parking. If you need coins for the meters, they are ready to help. It can be a romantic place as well as place to go with friends. Plenty of room at the sushi bar. Pros: food, service, portions more

Great cheap sushi 11/21/2006

The sushi is really good and fresh. As far as sushi goes, really cheap. Happy hour rolls are $4. Always easy to get a table and has a nice atmosphear. Pros: Price Cons: Selection more

Great experience 11/14/2006

Prompt service and great food. Not too crowded, especially during a T-Wolves game. I loved the Korean roll. Highly recommended. Pros: Ambience, Food, Service Cons: Can get busy more

Best sushi for price in state, awesome happy hour 11/13/2006

I am a sushi fanatic and have been to several of the cities' most raved about sushi places, as well as the surrounding metro. There is absolutely no other place around that offers such huge portions of such high quality sushi. If you haven't been here yet, you are MISSING OUT! Pros: Portions, happy hour Cons: ambiance not as trendy as others more

everybody should go 9/5/2006

To JPol, I was there that thursday night and may be you should arrived at the same time as your party. You should not expect the chef to rush your order just because your party ordered their food half an hour before you arrived. By the way, the tall guy that you talked to is the owner of koyi sushi. There are so many sushi bar in twin cities area or may be you would enjoy sushi from Byerly's or Lund's instead. more

OK Sushi; Inept Service 8/24/2006

I'm not quite sure why some of the rave reviews for this place... friends maybe or their judgement is clouded by the happy hour prices. Pros: cheap happy hour prices Cons: Bad Service more

Excellent sushi!! 8/1/2006

Definately one of the best sushi places I've ever been to. The fish is fresh and the portions (at least on the nigiri sushi) are large. The atmosphere is warm and the sushi bartender great! Finally, the prices are very reasonable. Pros: fresh fish, nice sushi, great quality/price ratio more

Great sushi, excellent price! 4/24/2006

Ok, you're not getting the atmosphere of some of the other sushi spots BUT you ARE getting high quality sushi, large rolls at a fraction of the price. This place is about good sushi without the frills! I ordered what I usually do at other places and could NOT finish what I had ordered. Namaste Pros: Good taste, Good price, comfy atmosphere Cons: not as trendy more
