As soon as I walked in holding my muffler warranty receipt, the manager's demeanor and facial expressions changed. After placing my vehicle on the lift he called me in to look at it and explained to me that my muffler only had a 1 yr warranty. I had purchased it in Nov 09 at the Court St location and was under the impression that it was a lifetime warranty. He told me this particular muffler did not qualify for this warranty. I told the mgr I knew the General Manager for Kost, and I proceeded to call him. He told me ""ALL"" their mufflers are lifetime warrantied. So he then called the store mgr. for me. The store mgr came back to me telling me that the General Manager was incorrect based on this particular muffler, but that they were going to honor it due to the General Mgrs approval. After the work was done, I got in my vehicle and it was louder than when I first brought it in. I called the store when I got back home and was old by the mgr that it just needs to be driven and that the noise will decrease. 2 days later the noise was very loud, so I went to the Court St Kost where I usually get my vehicles worked on. The only reason I went to the Vestal one this time was due to convenience and time restraint since I live close by.
The manager at Kost was very helpful and took a look at my car. He came back in telling me with an almost embarrassed look on his face that the work they did at Vestal was a ""train wreck"" and that it all had to be ripped out. He couldn't understand how anyone could actually let a vehicle leave their shop in this condition. There was air escaping from various gaps, and clamps were used that didn't fit correctly. Aside from that the tailpipe was leaning onto the fiberglass bumper which would have caused damage to the bumper. He ordered me a new muffler and tailpipe and now the car is quiet as a mouse. Just for my own information I asked the Court St manager if the muffler is under warranty. He also reiterated that ""ALL"" their mufflers are under lifetime warranty.
It seemed to me that the manager in Vestal, his name is Chris, didn't like that I called the General Manager and this was his way of getting back at me.
Do yourself a favor...avoid this 1805 Vestal Pkwy Kost shop and go to the Court St shop instead. Ask for Kevin.
