While I don't claim to be an expert on Japanese steakhouses, I have eaten at quite a few in many states. My girlfriend and I went several Thursday nights ago to Kobe. Upon entering the restaurant, you can see that they are doing renovations - no problem with that. The hostess was friendly, and they sat us near immediately. Maybe it was the fact that it was 8:30 that had put the wait staff in a bad mood. We were sat at table that had already been seated. The waiter came over and very abruptly asked for our drinks. I asked him then if they offered any other salad dressing than their "house" ginger - NO. Also, I asked for a Coke and received a Pepsi. I'm not saying that Coke vs Pepsi really matters, but a simple, "we have Pepsi" would have been nice. The table, ie, the patrons, were boring and self-absorbed. Again, maybe it was the night, but the entire table ignored the chef for the entire meal. He actually seemed to appreciate that we said "thank you" when we received our food.
Pros: Seated promptly, the steak and shrimp
Cons: Service, pricing, soup, portions... goes on and on.
