Kobe Japanese Steakhouse

The food wasn't good and I have never had Japanese like this. It was a poor imitation of the real thing. more

Kobe is large enough to handle a full party well. We had business associates in town and Kobe treated us well and was large enough to enable everyone to surrond the table. more

While I don't claim to be an expert on Japanese steakhouses, I have eaten at quite a few in many states. My girlfriend and I went several Thursday nights ago to Kobe. Upon entering the restaurant, you can see that they are doing renovations - no problem with that. The hostess was friendly, and they sat us near immediately. Maybe it was the fact that it was 8:30 that had put the wait staff in a bad mood. We were sat at table that had already been seated. The waiter came over and very abruptly asked for our drinks. I asked him then if they offered any other salad dressing than their "house" ginger - NO. Also, I asked for a Coke and received a Pepsi. I'm not saying that Coke vs Pepsi really matters, but a simple, "we have Pepsi" would have been nice. The table, ie, the patrons, were boring and self-absorbed. Again, maybe it was the night, but the entire table ignored the chef for the entire meal. He actually seemed to appreciate that we said "thank you" when we received our food. My husband and I are from Stone Mtn., Ga. We came to Birmingham to celebrate our 11th Wedding Anniversary with our family who lives here in Birmingham. We chose Kobe Japanese Steakhouse restaurant because they will give you a photo, a memorabilia and sing a song for the occasion that is being celebrated and because it would be a new experience for some of our family members. The reservation was made for Friday, Nov 23, 2007 for a party of six. The Chef was very funny and entertaining. However, we were very disappointed with the food. My husband and I have been to several Japanese Steakhouses but the food at this Steakhouse was the worst that we have experienced. The food did not have any flavor. They did not use sesame seeds and garlic in their fried rice which through our experience is standard ingredients. The steaks and seafood were lackluster also. We were very disappointed with the food. I cannot recommend this food. I will never go to another Kobe Japanese Steakhouse if this is an indication of their food. We have one in Atlanta, Ga., but I don't think we will give them a try because of our experience at the one in Birmingham, Al. Pros: Entertainment Cons: the Food more

If you love Japanese cuisine, you will love Kobe's. Located off of HWY 280, it is in a very busy area yet worth it. The atmosphere is very nice and family friendly, though they do offer a bar. The service is fun and friendly, with cooking done right before you. The food is always wonderful. more
