below average! 10/1/2007

Well, I just got back from my first time at King Taco: I had the carne asada tacos & they were great.however, everything else was way below average: the chips & guacamole I get I could SWEAR they bought from Smart & Final. The guacamole not only tasted wierd, it had a very peculiar consistency. Not appetizing at ALL. The Chips are a joke. Don't bother, and they charge you extra for everything outside of the tacos. This was a one time deal, I'll never go back again. Pros: meets low expectations Cons: everything else more

Burritos, tacos and sopes - OH MY! 5/21/2007

This is my all time favorite place to get tacos (the soft kind). I've been a patron since they opened in '74. (Wait I wasn't born yet!!) But anyway, I've been to every single King Taco From East L.A. to the SGV. Sure, some are better than others, but they are all pretty consistent. The East L.A. location has to be my favorite. I would drive from wherever I lived at the time to go there. There tacos are nice and simple -- they way they should be -- just onions, cilantro, meat and salsa. more

Movie Theater Nacho Cheese 4/8/2007

I dont believe I went to the same King Taco as everyone else, considering the great reviews. Yes the menu is really affordable with everything being under 5.00. Rightly so, because thats about as much as the food is worth. In all fairness, I think I got the most horrible thing on the menu being the nachos with bright orange FAKE MOVIE THEATER NACHO CHEESE. I was appauled. I could have went to taco bell for that. The guacamole tasted a little funny too. Everything else seems to be your run of the mill taco stand food. The service was pretty rude as a few others have pointed out. The salsa verde was delicious though. Overall, theres too many restaurants in the area to give them another one of my dollars. If I do stumble upon the place again I wont get the nachos!! Pros: Cheap Eats. Good Salsa Verde Cons: Fake Cheese! more

Good eats 3/21/2007

This place has THE best flautas I've ever had in my life. They also have awesome burritos with red hot sauce that makes tears come to your eyes. But back to these flautas. They have chicken and asada ones, the chicken ones are my favorite. They come drizzled with sour cream and guacamole and *yum* lettuce and other fixins. Good plate. more

this place is great. I go there for breakfast sometimes and get the machaca. ummm.hmmm. I'm going there in a few minutes cause I'm getting a hankering for some mex. One thing though, for this gringo, I get the salsa on the side. Their salsas are good but really hot, if you let them they will put it in your food and you might not like it that hot and well, you would have a bad impression more

Taco Heaven 3/23/2005

King Taco knows what they do and they do it well. If you love Baja style tacos, this is the place to get them in mass quantities. They wrap two tacos into individual foil wrapers and they remain hot until you can get to the table, or even all the way home. This is not a place to get extravagant service or huge amounts of cultural atmoshpere. It's all about the food and the speed. If you love fresh tamales, go early. Love their red sauce! 11/10/2004

They have really the best tacos and burritos in LA (possibly anywhere?). On a side note, on a recent trip to Mexico, I ordered tacos and expected King Taco and was highly disappointed. Anyway, burritos are about $4 and tacos are $1.15. Both are not the big portion-wise, but quality really rocks here. Always get the red sauce. The green sauce is a little sour, but another great idea is getting both sauces. I'm an average-to-big eater, and I can get full off of 1 taco and 1 burrito. It's may be good they don't have enormous portions like some Mexican places so you don't overeat and feel sick. The long lines there indicate the popularity, but it's definitely worth the wait! If you're looking for a good burrito and taco then this is the place to come. They do have a recipe though, and it's delicious! The only drawback is that their burritos are not as big as other restaurant's. I love Mexican food and I must say that King Taco makes good food. But food isn't everything when the people that work their and make your food are insulting and rude. Having heard their reputation I went with my girlfriend for an early dinner. As we were ordering, they started laughing and cursing at us in Spanish, and I mean really mean rotten stuff - I guess they didn't expect an asian to know Spanish. So go for the food - but beware what may come out of their mouths. Pros: good food, descent value Cons: not for a good time more

this has to be my longest-standing favorite in los angeles. i may be caucasian, but i know a good burrito from a bad one, and i need REAL spice - not watered-down - and king taco really knows how to pack a punch! i've tried copying their recipes for both rice and salsa roja, but no can do. the beans aren't laden in lard, which is good for us vegetarians. bring a spanish speaker, though, or else they might make some order mishaps (at least, this is the case at the maywood location). the ambience is not ""superb,"" but don't forget that before king taco became a chain, it WAS a taco stand! love the fact that they use queso anejo rather than monterey or cheddar. What more could an Angelino want in a Mexican restaurant. The food is spicy but tolerable. The portions are medium to large, definitely enough to fill ya up, and if it isn't, just get another helping, it's cheap enough. The location was great and the store clean. Recommendations are the tacos de carne asada, bean and cheese burrito. The rice is so good. So many places get the rice wrong, but a place that can pay attention to the side dishes as well as a main course is a place you know will be good. Pros: Food, Clean Store, Location more
