King Chef

Worst Chinese food in Phoenixville...maybe ever. I ordered the sesame chicken combo, 2 shrimp egg rolls and steamed dumplings. The sesame chicken was ORANGE, with some pieces tasting totally bland and others gross -- more like a bad cross between orange chicken and sweet and sour souce. The chicken was very fatty and the sauce was like a gelatin substance. After eating half an egg roll, I ripped the rest open, along with the uneaten egg roll, only to find 1 dinky piece of shrimp in each roll. The rest was cabbage. And the steamed dumplings...they smelled like pizza dough that had been sitting out for too long. The dumpling sauce was mediocre, and made the otherwise barely cooked dumplings palatable. It's far from great, but I'll be going back to Mr. China in the future for what meets at least the minimum standard for chinese food. Skip King Chef: it stinks. more

I've gotten food from all of the Chinese food take out restaurants. King Chef is definitely the best in Phoenixville in terms of take out but it has its flaws. For starters, there is literally two tables in the place so eating there is not a real option. That doesn't matter, it is take out. The problem arises with the bait and switch that ALL of the Phoenixville Chinese food restaurants take part in. Sometimes the prices will be slightly higher when you order then what is printed on the menu. The prices seem to change weekly and they'll tell you one price on the phone then say another when the food arrives. There is also a bad habit of the Phoenixville Chinese food restaurants forgetting pints of rice. Now, I can give King Chef four stars because they play this game the least. The food is good and there have only been a few occasions where I've had a problem. I particularly recommend the happy family and the steamed dumplings. They give eight dumplings, whereas other restaurants only give five or six. more

One thing I disliked about Phoenxville when I moved here was the lack of Chinese food - until I discovered King Chef. The wonton soup is delicious (and works better than chicken soup for curing a cold!), the breading for sweet and sour chicken was perfectly crispy, and the beef and broccoli was very fresh (no overdone shoe-leather food here!). Delivery time was fairly decent, too. I really don't miss my old Chinese restaurant after having King Chef's food! more
