Quaint and Cozy 12/17/2009

This place has a pleasant atmosphere and the staff is very friendly and attentive. I had the Drunken Noodles and they were made to perfection. The Chicken was tender and juicy and had just the right spice. My friend ordered the Chicken Satay and the Yellow Curry, both of which were really good. The food looked, smelled and tasted great. If I am in the neighborhood, I will go again and again! Pros: Great Thai more

Best Thai Food in town! 9/15/2008

My husband and I are in love with this place!!!! Their drunken noodles and pork panang are the best. And oh ya, let me not forget about their fresh(really fresh!) spring rolls. If you're Thai food lover like we are, Kinara is the place for you! The owner and other staffs are really nice and graceful. Great location, atmosphere, prices and most of all really goooooood Thai food. more

A realistic Thai FOODS. I been there with my parents once and never thought it would be that good. None Thai restaurant had ever have my heart. But this Thai restaurant definitely won it. They made the most delicious Thai foods[real toox)]. Well you know that not that much kids love Thai restaurant. Well I'm just a teenage...and really I do think this Thai restaurant is really was made for kids and all kinds of people. more

Why didn't I find this place sooner? 8/22/2008

I met a friend for lunch at this ""hole in the wall"" place only to experience the best service and Thai food I've had in Portland. It's small but the food is very fresh and delicious; plus, the service is exceptionally pleasant and grateful. I will definitely go back and I think you should try it! Pros: You'll find your new favorite Thai restaurant! Cons: Not for a large group, leave the kids at home. more

A Disappointment 8/21/2008

A pleasing staff and ambience, but gastronomically not so pleasing. We ordered the stir fried mango chicken dish and while it and the side dishes were very artfully arranged, the end result was one of are considerable gastric distress. Although the menu stated stir fried, the chicken was really deep fried to the point of petrification resulting in nearly fossilized hard lumps of meat within a thick dense encrustation of grease. It's too bad; with all of the previous positive reviews I was really prepared for a fine meal. Perhaps there was a substitute cook the night we visited. (I've awarded two stars, but considering the food alone, one star would be appropriate.) more

A very pleasant surprise 7/10/2008

I literally just finished my takeout lunch from this place and felt compelled to write. It was AMAZING. I had a thai beef salad with the leanest flank steak, fabulously fresh organic salad greens, and a to-die-for lime dressing with a spicy/sweet/sour combination. Pros: Food, service, pricing Cons: Funky location more

A true diamond in the rough 4/1/2008

This place is truly a diamond in the rough. Kinara is a little off the beating path. The way I know about it is that I take MAX to work and I go right past it twice a day. Pros: Food, ambiance, friendly staff, tranquility, and music. Cons: Probably too small of a place to go on a Friday or Saturday night. more

Wonderful: Warm, Tasty, Different 2/21/2008

This Thai Bistro is wonderful- I felt compelled to write this review in light of the review just posted. I don't typically write reviews on City Search (this is the 2nd one I have ever done in my life), but the review below- to me- is horribly misleading. In short- Kinara is warm, is good, and is a little bit different. I go there often and I am a self-confessed foodie. I love a range of foods and a range of Thai and this bistro definitely satisfies on alot of fronts. I am just about to order my weekly take-out as I type this (I try something d/f each week.) What is always consistent is the tastiness of the food and the warmth of the owners and staff. I highly recommend for people who live near the restaurant- Goose Hollow, PSU, Cultural District, etc. They do great take-out. They deliver. And they have great customer service. Get their menu- post it on your fridge. I guarantee you will be calling once a week for your Thai fix. I do hope whoever reads this can tell this review is written by a real person and a real customer. Pros: food, staff, ambience Cons: its not traditional Thai- so if you are looking for that, you won't get it here more

A New Treasure... 11/22/2007

A friend and I went to Kinara Thai Bistro the other night and had an enjoyable time. The restaurant appears to have been remodeled recently, since everything looked new. And it's very CLEAN! We went early, which we always do when dining out, and I would recommend this to anyone planning to dine here. It's a smaller place, probably not well suited for parties of more than, say, 10 people. (Tip: If you want a quiet, romantic dinner for 2, get there early and ask to be seated in the back room.) But they offer takeout and the food is exceptional. We both ordered specials and were very satisfied with our food. The Thai iced tea was perfect and so was the service. The prices are very reasonable, making this an ideal place for students and scholars alike. The atmosphere is warm and professional without being stuffy. I'm looking forward to going back VERY soon to try the garlic and pepper chicken, and my friend has her eye on the beef salad. Give this place a try -- you'll be glad you did! Pros: Great food, reasonable prices, clean, quiet atmosphere Cons: None come to mind more

Exactly how Thai should be! 4/1/2007

Mai Thai is exactly what you expect in a great little Thai joint. Good authentic Thai food, fair prices, and a very cozy ambience. The highlight for my girlfriend and I is the service. They are always very kind, polite, helpful, and the food is delivered just ridiculously fast. You rock Mai Thai, tell a friend everyone! Pros: Everything, the best service in town, good food more

About the confusion 2/7/2007

my former review was for Mai Thai, the resturant that was in the same space before it changed to Kinara. THESE RESTAURANTS ARE NOT THE SAME. The cooks and owners are now different. All reviews before August of 07 are in refrence to Mai Thai, and it is not right that they should be listed here. However, in response to Sirisak, I don't believe this was meant to be fraud, there was likely a mix up when it changed hands. That said, KINARA IS A GOOD THAI RESTAURANT, IT'S JUST NOT THE BEST. THE OLD RESTAURANT MAI THAI HAS OPENED UP on 3104 SE BELMONT ST, and I reccomend you check it out, it's the best thai food ever!!!!!! more

Thai Heaven 12/16/2006

Great experience. We have eaten here twice and have been surprised each time by the level of sophistication in the menu. Each dish is unique with it's own character and flavor. Friendly and helpful staff that suggest great alternatives to the standard items. Their scallops and spinach in peanut sauce is wonderful and the pork loin is perfect. Good salad rolls and pad thai noodles. Reminds us of Typhoon without the price and crowded scene. Almost forgot, they deliver! You won't be disappointed. Pros: great food Cons: parking more

Outstanding! 11/7/2006

I recently moved to the Portland area from Vancouver, BC, where we pride ourselves on our Asian food, of which Thai is my favorite, so I'm rather picky. I've tried as many of the Thai restaurants around Portland as I've been able to in search of the best. My quest is completed! This is the best Thai food I've ever had. The previous reviewer's reaction was right on: WOW! The waitress was very friendly, and the food simply cant be beat. I can't recommend this place enough, and I cant wait to go back! Enjoy! more

Best Home Cooked Thai Food - WOW! 11/3/2006

This is the best Thai Restaurant I have found. All plates are prepared to order - from scratch - and you can really taste the difference. Ask the charming staff for a recommendation! Their selection of specials changes regularly featuring creative home-cooked meals. They have a solid value lunch menu - and their dinner menu really shines. Sizzling scallops with peanut sauce, glass noodles with shrimp and minced chicken, calamari salad, herb fried fish - A very healthy menu - always prepared to order. Pros: Fresh food, cooked to order. Many Creative Special Dishes. Cons: No parking - but parking on the street is manageable. more

Best Thai food ever! 10/24/2006

I have eaten at most of the Thai restaurants around Portland and many others around the country, and this is truly the best Thai food I've ever had. I come here regularly since discovering it, I can't get enough! It has a small friendly atmosphere, and the staff is wonderful. I recommend the citrus mango, chu chi fish, and moo ob, and they have a large selection of other outstanding items. You won't be disappointed! Pros: Best Thai food I've ever had more
