A Declining Amusement 6/24/2006

When I was a child there was nothing more exciting than hearing you were going to spend the day at Kiddieland. A pint-sized amusement park set in the middle of a kind of neighborhood on the northwest side of Chicagoland, Kiddieland had a magical quality as a child. There was a roller coaster, still scary as a five year old, but as an adult probably laughable. As for me, I always loved the rides where you flew the helicopter, really just moving up and down as the machine went around and around. Then there were the cool cars that went in a circle but had these weird rayguns on them that made noise. As you got a little older there were bumper cars and those weird hand-cart things you could ride that I don't think I can explain. There were the gas-powered cars that rode on these tracks but you had to steer and push down on the gas pedal. There was the train that looked like a real miniature diesel train. These days, Kiddieland is falling apart. The family that owns it wants to sell it. The neighborhood around it continues to fall apart. Sometimes things are better left as memory, I guess. Six Flags has all of those family things even if it costs you $60 to get in. Still, maybe you should stop by to see Kiddieland while there still is one to see. more

Kiddieland 6/17/2006

This place is for kids of all ages. These days because this place has some years to it maybe it would be called vintage, classic or even retro. Nothing has changed here over the years except the price and the fact that there are honestly more gang-bangers coming here. Don't let that stop you however, even when thugs are here they are here with their family and/or friends taking the day off and having a good time. Grab a snowcone and enjoy the rides, some of which are pretty good. They have carnival games and an arcade also. more

You don't have to be five to have fun! 5/14/2006

That's my motto. Even though my baby days are long behind me, I often act like I'm five again whenever I'm around an amusement park. When I was just a little rock and roller, and my mom would mention the name Kiddieland, you could hear my squeals of delight for miles! This place used to bring me great joy, and all these years later, it still does. It's not the biggest or the best, but it's a classic with so much history. Fun rides, cool games, and the best cotton candy around. I still get a kick out of that little train that takes you around the park. So much fun! more

Make New Memories 5/13/2006

Like so many other folks who grew up in or around Chicago, I have been coming here since childhood. It hasn't changed much, I'm glad to say. On a recent visit I got behind the wheels of the bumper cars and went on the Tilt a Whirl.. That is about all the rides I will venture on. A good place to try your hand at a few carnival games and win a stuffed animal(hopefully it won't cost you $20) I try to visit at least once each summer. It is across the street from Maywood Park. Yes, the area has changed a bit, but this place has not. more

Park for Kids 4/27/2006

This is a great place to bring young children too. Its a bit outdated and the rides are not all that exciting, but I think that is what makes it perfect for little children. You can easily spend an entire day here having fun with your kids. While many people complain about their high prices, I think they are not so bad because unlike other amusement parks, this price includes free fountain drinks throughout your visit and they also allow you to bring in your own snacks and lunch. Just that by itself is a big money saver because at other parks, you end up spending a fortune just on food! Overall, this a wonderful place to come to with your young children. They will surely enjoy it. more

Fun Little Amusement Park 3/3/2006

This is a great place to bring your kids during the summer. It is a nice amusement park that is appropriate for young children. Its really old; it has been around since I was a kid. There's about thirty rides and they're all a lot of fun. Kids really enjoy this park. You just buy an all day pass and then you can utilize the parks rides for the entire day. They also have a cool arcade in here and lots of food stands to buy snacks. Overall, a great place to come with the kids. more

Can't believe it's still around! 11/21/2005

We visited Kiddieland a few times as children, so I was shocked to see that they are still open!! The prices are a little high considering the park isn't that big. I was impressed with the fact that they offer free fountain drinks to you while in the park! That was a nice bonus! It is a nice place to visit, but not worth driving out of your way to go. more

Great for kids 8 and under 9/23/2005

Kiddieland is fun for the younger kids ages 8 and under. They have quite a few rides but the prices have gone up and the quality has gone down. There is free parking and free pepsi drinks for everyone. Another downside is that adults are also charged to get in when they barely ride the rides. They have two water rides where you get slightly wet that the older kids really enjoy going on. There is also a small game room that has the classic arcade games like skeeball and pacman. more

A fun place to go for the young and old 8/17/2005

Kiddieland has been around for over 75 years. I went there as a child and now have taken my child. The park is very clean and all the rides are in great condition. There are rides for amusement park lovers of all ages, but they are mostly geared to those under the age of about 8. Free Pepsi products are available at soda fountains thoughout the park which is great on a hot summer day. Parking is free, but the lot is small, so make sure to arrive early. If you're looking for somewhere to take your young kids for the day, Kiddieland is the place to go. Coupons are always available; just check their website for where to get them. more

A Not So Great Place 8/16/2005

The quality and value of this children's amusement park has gone down over the past few years. Tickets are now charged at close to $18 per adult and $15 for a child. The park features little rides and it is very small compared to the price that one pays. Living within one mile of this amusement park, I would much rather inconvenience myself and travel the 35 miles to Six Flags Great America in Gurnee than go here. The park looks very run down, unclean and the staff is usually very rude and unhelpful. Melrose Park's annual Free Day for the residents was even cancelled by the village due to the fact that they believed the ticket price was much too costly to pay (they paid for every single child that went in on that special day). If the town you're located in doesn't even support you as much anymore, that HAS to be a very bad sign of how this establishment is regarded. more

Been here forever 8/14/2005

Kiddieland is one of those must do summer time adventures. It is easy to find and sure to bring a smile to everyones face. Lots of rides, special events. They serve FREE Pepsi fountain beverages throughout the park all day! That would help your day's budget. You can also bring a picnic lunch. more

Not Just for Kids! 7/25/2005

Kiddieland is a fun place for the whole family to go. In these parts, a summer just isn't complete without at least one trip to Kiddieland. If you are a roller coaster enthusiast, don't expect to be floored by the rides here. They are pretty tame, but still fun. They also have the standard lineup of carnival-style games and concessions. The bottom line is that this is a nice place to go and spend some time with your family. more

Small Theme Park 7/24/2005

This is a great place not only for the kids, but for the entire family. They have a pretty low priced addmission free for a full day of rides and fun. They have a cute ferriss wheel, a bunch of rides for kids, bumper cars, and lots more. The park is well kept and there's lots of neat rides here. There's also plenty of places to eat in the park and those are pretty reasonably priced as well. It's definitely a place you'll want to visit a few times throughout the summer. more
