We had been clients of Kennesaw Mountain Animal Hospital for 2 years so they new my dog and his age. I brought my 11 1/2 yrs old Bernese Mountain Dog (average life span of a Berner is 10 yrs old) to KMAH cause I feared that he had once again eaten a foreign object. An x-ray confirmed that, and he needed surgery. I told KMAH that due to his age and the fact that he had had surgery and an extremely complicated recovery 4 months earlier for the exact same thing (1st surgery was not performed by KMAH), that my husband and I had made the difficult decision to euthanize since it wasn't fair to my elderly dog to put him through that again. KMAH responded by asking me to sign custody of my dog to them so that they could perform the surgery and rehome him. Obviously I wasn't going to give up my dog, so feeling I had no other options, I agreed to surgery. The surgery itself was successful. 36 hours post op, due to the fact it was the weekend, they transferred him to the emergency clinic, where we found out that our dog was in in really bad shape and was suffering the same post-op complications he endured after his previous surgery 4 months ago. KMAH seemed completely unaware of the severity of these complications, though they had been made fully aware of the results of his last surgery, When we picked him up, KMAH never mentioned to us that our dog was doing poorly. Two hours after admission to the ER, we euthanized him due to the severity of the complications.
