The tokwat-baboy is to die for! 10/7/2008

Fantastic home cooking here. They used to have another location in Daly City, near Pacifica, but that closed recently.\r \r Anyway, the tokwat-baboy is to die for! Especially good for those evenings when it's very cold and rainy outside.\r \r Aah, I'm back at the talipapa! more

not impressive - dishes not clean 5/1/2008

I was craving Filipino food and being that there aren't many filipino restaurants in the area I was excited about trying Kenkoy's. We had a breakfast dish, and being filipino I was not impressed. The food was very bland which was already a disappointment, but when we went to take a sip of our drinks, there was ants on the outside and inside of the glasses. At that point, I lost my appetite and have not returned since.\r But they do have good customer service. Pros: parking and customer service Cons: bland food and dirty dishes more

Kenkoy's Grill - Super Food and Service! 5/1/2008

My boyfriend have been there several times, and have been impressed with the home-style cooking and warm reception. The owners and staff make you feel very special, and never disappoint with the dishes. A great place for families, too! Pros: Quality of food, authentic cooking, warm atmosphere more

Unexpectedly Delightful ! 11/23/2007

When my husband first suggested we go to Kenkoy's, I was very reluctant. Firstly, I find most buffets to serve fairly poor quality food which sits around in tray tables for hours. Secondly, my last experience at a Filipino restaurant was not good ( Gerry's Grill Union City : horrible service, dirty floors and tables, bad food). Kenkoy's is definitely the most pleasant buffet experience I have ever had. We have had the same waiter each time ( apparently the owner's son, based on an earlier post) and the service was terrific even though it was a buffet lunch (i.e. he was friendly and attentive with refilling drinks and removing plates, etc.). The decor is very tasteful and the ambience ( cozy, quiet, dimly lit, soft music) is quite nice. The buffet lunch is very nicely presented on chaffing dishes with more of a 'reception' vibe, as opposed to the whole 'tray-table-heat-lamp' look. This is a very nice meal for $7.95 (salad, lumpia, kaldereta, pancit, adobo, lechon, and more). They also serve meals from the menu. This place is a delight! Pros: Decor, cleanliness, ambience, parking, food, and service. The whole package! Cons: None that we could see. more

Quality & quantity... 11/9/2007

First of all, when you see other races enjoying the food, going for seconds and thirds, that tells you a lot... the food is really good. The traditional pansit was excellent, it was not dry like most. The chicken adobo was very tasty and tender. The beef kaldereta was wonderful and again tender. The lechon was superb and crispy. The lumpia ""shanghai"" looked good (I did not have any). I was not aware lunch is served buffet style, eat all you can for a reasonable cost. \r \r Ambiance is welcoming. The owner's son is friendly and attentive to the patrons. Place is clean but I did not get a chance to check the restroom. You know how that goes, a clean restroom means a clean restaurant.\r \r I will definitely recommend this place to others and will go back to try the other dish they serve. If you're looking for quality and quantity, give Kenkoy's a try. Pros: Thumbs up... Cons: needs a little lighting... more

FINALLY! Filipino Cuisine restaurant (Hayward, CA) 7/22/2007

""Fusion Cuisine""....I don't think so! Just yo' traditional filipino food served on ""nice Target dishes"" if anything...sorry. Food WAS good though!! If dinning in, 1 entree placed out to share btw 2 people...so my BF Jayson & I ordered 3 entrees really & shared; longanisa fried rice, chkn pansit, & pork adobe w/ pineapple & cantelope juice (hehe)...oh & shared 2 Turons (fried bananas) w/ ube ice cream...all that under $40 bucks...that was just great! Price range is very reasonable! Appetizers $3.50-$7.25; Entrees $6-$18; Desserts $3-$5; Drinks $1.25-$4. Sunday ""All You Can Eat"" Buffet 11:30am-3pm too, but we missed it. Seating is cool...nothing spectacular, but really simple & nice. Normal hours are 11:30am-10pm...nice! Oh, even though it may not be 1/2-way crowded, at least they have some soft music playing while you dine in. Easy parking only because not everyone knows about the spot!! The restaurant wasn't crowded AT ALL Sunday evening, but that didn't discourage us, so don't let it discourage you. Located off of Jackson Street from Hwy 880 in the corner (REALLY...the corner) of the outdoor shopping center down the parking aisle from Nations. This was a new spot for my BF & myself...nice to find a filipino restaurant in our neck of the woods w/o having to drive to The City (SF) or ova/thru The Hills (Concord/San Ramon) w/ the exception of Gerry's Grill or Jollibee's I suppose. Kenkoy's Grill just opened apparently Jan 2007...maybe that's why they're not well known yet....I dunno. Anywho, this couple, Mary & Jayson, would go back though...or order take out! Pros: Easy parking, good service & food, friendly atmosphere, & AWESOME prices!!! Cons: Too empty (opened Jan '07)...for now at least.... more
