PLEASE read! For the sake of your beloved pet!!!\r \r This is a review on incidents that happened quite a while ago, but yelp was not around or not popular at the time, and these incidents still haunt me to this day. \r \r The first few times we started taking our animals to this man, things were fine. These were just normal check ups and shots. We loved his prices- this is why we sought him out. \r \r Over a few days, I notice my cat was walking in circles, leaning her head against walls, was not eating and was lethargic. She was older- around 16. I knew things weren't good and was probably going to have to put her to sleep. Sadly, I took the cat into the vet with my mom to Dr. Kelly. When we were in the exam room waiting for him, my mom said "put the cat on the scale". (Btw, i was a only 21 or 22 yrs old at the time) As I did, Dr. Kelly walked in the exam room. He then yelled at the top of his lungs "I am the one performing the exams!! Get out of my exam room!" I ran out BALLING my eyes more

Stay Away. Your Pets will Thank You 4/3/2012

After having gone to this vet for about 4-months I finally reached my breaking point this morning. \r \r My year and a half old Chocolate labrador had stepped on a thorn or had some soreness in his hind paws. So I took him to Dr. Kelly in hopes that he would eleviate the pain and help it so the dog wouldn't walk with a tiny limp in his hind legs. \r \r Upon walking into the exam room, Dr. Kelly wants me to have the dog walk around the room some. I have him walk and he comments aloud "Yes I can see that the dog has a tiny limp and he's favoring that paw." The dog gets a bit out of my control as he's nervous and Dr. Kelly has this annoyed look on his face. To which I'm thinking,\r \r "I'm paying for the visit...not sure why you're annoyed....this is your job." \r \r We continue and Dr. Kelly eventually wants to put the dog up on the table. This strikes me as odd because he's the ONLY one in the building. No assistants, no conveyor to help the dog up like other places, and what most struck me as more

Affordable Care from Expert Vet 6/29/2011

I have been taking my dogs to Dr. Kelly for years and he has surpassed my expectations of veterinary care. He is a fun, positive professional who is skilled at what he does. He diagnoses problems efficiently and gets my dogs treated and back to health in record time and for an affordable price. I am skeptical of many businesses that can tend to take advantage of customers and patients, and have experienced vets in the past that prolong treatment or testing simply to make more profit off their patient's lack of knowledge in their field. Dr. Kelly makes a point to explain to me what is wrong with my pets, what needs to be done, and why. I am confident in his diagnoses and treatments, and have never once had reason to doubt him. He is always right on the mark. \r \r To address the concerns of some past reviewers, I have know Dr. Kelly for years and know that he cares deeply for the animals he treats. He has every right to suggest other care facilities if he feels it is in his, you, or your more

Don't do it! 2/5/2011

I'm dumbfounded. We took our dog to Dr. Kelley to have a lump removed from her leg. While there, my husband mentioned that we think that our dog drinks alot of water. Dr. Kelley said that we need to do a complete work up to make sure she doesn't have diabetes. He would call in the morning and give us the results. Very caring, very patient, spent lots of time with them. The next morning, the attitude changed. He told my husband that our dog is severely diabetic and will need two insulin shots a day for the rest of her life. Could he bring the dog in for instructions and medication? My husband tried to call twice to schedule a good time, but there was no answer. So he stopped in. The receptionist was combative and condescending. My husband called her on it and asked her to stop. The conversation ended with her telling my husband to call the Dr. after 3. When he did, the Dr. said he would not see our dog anymore. He would refer us to another clinic, but he didn't want to de more

First and foremost doctor Kelly knows his animals.\r \r He pulls himself into fourteen different directions all at once and blames you for his boundary issues. He gets lost in being overworked, he is on call 24/7. No human can stand that i do not care if yours part machine.\r \r I brought my dog into the office without a leash and while in the examining room i let my dog get use to his surroundings, Dr Kelly scolded me like a four year old and told me, "we are gonna have a problem, I was gonna have to leave if I didn't hold my dog..." (I was paying for a visit you where half involved in, thats the problem).\r \r wtf? close the door to the room and give me your attention and there wont be a need for a leash. (But what ever i was pissed, to talk to any body in that tone and let alone a customer, where is the love?). His pricing is a little weird (Fifty for pills without the surgery and 14 for with, Fraud?!?!) and he brought up extra charges after surgery (undiscussed).\r (if your getting a surg more

The first time I took my dog here was for the free exam after you get a pet from the shelter. so when my dog was having severe itching I figured I might as well take her here. My dog was a bit uncomfortable & was barking. he never tried to calm her anything. He walked away to answer the phone and tossed me a muzzle, and said to put her up on the table. I got the muzzle on but didn't feel comfortable getting her on the table myself. He walked in & said " I can't help you, leave the muzzel for the next dog" then HE TURNED THE LIGHT OFF & CLOSED THE DOOR IN A ROOM W/ NO WINDOWS!! I went to El Cajon Valley Vet they were wonderfull!!!!!!!! more

Super vet! 6/24/2010

I started going to Dr. Kelly when he had a mobile pet clinic and continued when he got more permanent headquarters until I moved away from San Diego County. He was our vet through maybe three generations of cats and was always helpful and personable from birth to death. And he has a sense of humor! It is worth going to a vet like this, even when there is a long commute, because you can be sure that your pet is getting the best care. \r \r Hey, insider pages, your star rating system is odd. Someone who gave him a rave review also gave him only two stars. What gives? more

Would not recommend- 4/5/2010

This "dr" kelley helped us with our dog and with his help, we came to the conclusion that it was in her best interest to opt. for euthanasia. We struggled with this for weeks, we even made an appointment but couldn't go through with it. Finally we realized she was seriously suffering and we were being selfish. We made a new appointment and the day of, my husband decided to see if we could go in earlier so we wouldn't start rethinking it and back out. His reception called us back saying the dr. was leaving early for the day and couldn't help at all..???? My husband ask to have the Dr. call us back and he never did until two days later- Then he proceeded to tell us he couldn't do it, he referred up to another clinic and told us he ran out of euthanasia...(WHAT??) We were and still are throughly confused on what happened- we tried to ask if it was something we did and he just kept referring us to another clinic- SO WEIRD and TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL!!! After trying to gather the strength to more

Dr. Kelly is extremely rude and unprofessional. I had been taking my dog there for 6 years and his service has gotten worse and worse. Would never recommend him. more

extremely knowledgeable vet 2/9/2009

I've taken my cats to Dr Kelly for about 18 yrs. He is very personable and is a bit chatty. He sometimes has an assistant but often runs the shop. This also helps keep costs down.\r His breadth of knowledge about cats is amazing. He can talk your ear off about any cat disease or condition with authority. I've gone home many times and done Internet research on what he's told me, and he's always been right on the money. He's always taken excellent care of my cats. Obviously, I always come back to him. Highly recommend him! more

Great vet for 7 yrs 7/2/2008

I have taken my dog and cat to Dr. Kelly for 7 years and had good experiences every time. Though he may have to answer his own phone, this is an advantage when you're the one calling. Office visits may take extra time, but in my experience, that's because he thoroughly explains what he's doing, what the possibilities are and my options for treatment. I have never had to wait for an appointment and he is on-call by cell phone 24 hrs a day. When my cat was injured at 8:30PM on a Saturday, he met me at the clinic and took care of her. more

I would suggest a different vet! 6/24/2008

I took my dog there for a foxtail in her year. He told me that I was wrong and that it was just a food allergy and I had to buy his dog food that is $45 for a 20 pound bag. That would have been fine if that was what was wrong but it was a foxtail. So when I took her to a different vet she had a terrible infection. Plus the Dr. Kelly was the only person there and keep going in and out of the room to answer the phone and help anyone that walks in. The place needed to be cleaned up, not terrible but not good. The thing that really mad me mad was when I was in the exam room with my dog on the table he was at the room desk talking away with the mailman. I just found that really rude since I am the one paying. Maybe it was just me but he seemed unprofessional and that he did not care about his patients. I would never go back more
