Best

it's a great local spot for those of us that grew up in the chicagoland area and have no desire to spend all their money getting in the door. there's a good DJ and plenty of space...

Worst

We've gone to this bar a couple of times, always with poor results. The crowd tends to be oblivious college kids and a few older men who are trying to pick them up. On a number ...

Rat infested hole 1/18/2011

This place should be shut down. I saw 2 rats by the kitchen door. Rat droppings on the floor. The manager said they cannot control the problem with rats in Evanston. Underage drinking is out of control there. Fake ids must. Be rampant. The police and health commission must be getting paid off not to close this place down. Enter this place at your own risk. It is a he'll hole... more

Can I get a Beer PLEASE 7/31/2008

This bar on a Friday and/or Saturday Nites EArly is empty and it still takes awhile to get a beer. Bartender is too busy texting . The Service is Slow. Week Days I suggest a Tuesday or Monday great service and fast Beers. Pros: Service on any other night then Friday or Saturdday is good Cons: BAD slow and at times rude Service on the Week End more

Townie Bar gone WILD 2/18/2008

it's a great local spot for those of us that grew up in the chicagoland area and have no desire to spend all their money getting in the door. there's a good DJ and plenty of space to dance - what more can one be looking for? Pros: cheap drinks and good DJ Cons: tends to draw the underage kids... more

Ground Zero for Drunk Underage People 10/20/2006

What can be said about The Keg that hasn't already been said about the Vietnam War: it's a hellhole, and the only way to deal with it is by trying to black out the horrible memories. Seriously though, it's a great drunken time if you're between the ages of 17 and 20...or if you're looking for people that age. With that being said, plenty of creepy people hang out there, not that that's something that deters people from going there. In the end, CHEAP beer (in Big Cups) and the best place to play quarters in the Evanston area. It's a fun time (stick to Mondays and Thursdays to actually see people there). Pros: Cheap beer, great Quarters venue, drunk underage kids Cons: Gets crowded, weird people, drunk underage kids more

Trashy collage bar at best 8/23/2006

We've gone to this bar a couple of times, always with poor results. The crowd tends to be oblivious college kids and a few older men who are trying to pick them up. On a number of occasions the bartenders were busy text messaging on their phones while customers waited to be served. The drinks are okay and the food is what you'd expect for bar food. They are a good last call since they tend to be open later than the surrounding bars. But, poor service and a "college kids looking to hook up" atmosphere leave this place as a last resort for choice of venue . Pros: Later hours Cons: Service and usual clients more

  • The Scene
In bar years, the Keg has been around for an eternity--since 1972. Its no-frills atmosphere (brown is the dominant color), moderate prices and proximity to the Northwestern campus have made it a reliable hangout over the decades for students and locals alike. Part tavern, part restaurant, the Keg has two bars, a dining room and a sizable game room that includes pool and darts. After work, the crowd is a blue- and white-collar mix; the dinner hour draws folks of all ages to the restaurant. College students take over later in the evening.

    The Draw
Besides an all-you-can-eat salad bar, the dining room offers steak, chicken and seafood entrees; and for kids, the peanut butter and jelly sandwich served with french fries. Bar snacks include fried calamari, baked escargot, wings and rib fingers. Beer (including Sam Adams, Leinenkugel and Murphy's Stout) comes in bottles, pints and pitchers.
