Really good food in a hidden spot off Divisadero ... 9/7/2007

This may be an odd location for a Himalayan restaurant (housed in a former Jamaican restaurant space, still adorned with lush water fall murals) ... but we love this great addition to the neighborhood.\r \r Great food, really nice service - and all on a great budget.\r You can order any of their main courses a la carte or combo (including salad, lentils, rice, dessert) - and everything we have tried so far is really good.\r Favorites include the Chef's Special - Butter Chicken and the Sauteed Lamb - try these or any of their other entrees with two different kinds of bread and it is the perfect comfort food... along with some nice wines by the glass or a chilled local or ""King Fisher"" beer ... more

Great food, great service 6/23/2006

This is a great addition to the area restaurants. It's a teeny tiny place, with just a few tables, but there's no hipster attitude (i'm talking to you, Little Star Pizza), the food is tasty, interesting, and affordable, the service is attentive but casual, and the ""staff"" is a very friendly family who make you feel welcome and will remember you. I recommend the prawn curry (extra spicy), but everything on the menu is great. You can order a la carte or get the full dinner, which comes with rice pudding (don't usually like it, but this was yummy, with a sort of perfume-y after taste) and a side of lentils. \r \r The best part? The chai!! It tasted exactly like the chai I had when I was in Kenya. Wow. more

Find this hole in the wall! 2/19/2006

I've lived up the street from this restaurant and know that it's a terrible location. Nobody ever knows theres a restaurant there. I've already seen two restaurants go out of business, so come support this great find! There are only a couple of tables in this tiny little restaurant. They use the mirrored walls to make the place feel bigger. The food is awesome! So far I haven't been disappointed by any of the dishes. They have wonderful flavors and very appropriately priced portions. Most meat dishes are around $10, and the combination dinners are around $15. If you're a big eater you will be disappointed by the size of the plates, but since I usually come out of Indian restaurants bursting and feeling sick it's a nice change. Note, this is Himalayan food, not Indian, but I make that comparison for people that don't know what to expect. Pros: Food, Nice people Cons: Small portions, Small restaurant more
