Thought this would be a nice Japanese place but they didn't even serve Sushi! What kind of Japanese rest. is this? The ribeye steak was so thin and they were stingy with the veg...

Lots of Food! 4/18/2009

Like the originator, Benihanna, Kanpai boasts chefs who cook your food at your table. I'm sure there are better showman than our chef was but the food tasted great. We felt rushed to leave by the waitress because of the crowded Saturday night dinner service, which we found a bit tacky. She repeatedly asked whether we wanted to wrap our food to go (which began 10 minutes after the chef finished cleaning up). If you don't know what the show is supposed to look like, it was adequate but if you go, go for the food. Pros: Festive Atmosphere Cons: Rushed dining experience more

Great food and service 11/21/2008

Kanpai is like Arigatos. The chef's cook in front of you and you had better go hungry. You get salad, soup, rice, and your meal. The only thing they offer different is cooked bananas for a dessert. I wasn't really fond of them. The service is great, and the prices are the same. more

Chef friendly, food sub-par and NO SUSHI! 5/13/2008

Thought this would be a nice Japanese place but they didn't even serve Sushi! What kind of Japanese rest. is this? The ribeye steak was so thin and they were stingy with the veggies. The food was average at best but the chef was very friendly and accommodating and I like the bananas at the end. Go eat Japanese food somewhere else!
