So?you?ve decided you want a new bike?not just any new bike but an awesome bike that fits you perfectly and rides like a dream. Well?I can recommend an awesome place for you to find that special bike?KGS Bikes?and here?s why. \r Last year I found that riding bike was so painful on my back that it wasn?t much fun. I didn?t have much of a problem on short rides, but once I went beyond 20 miles, my back was killing me. After I completed the MS 150 I knew something had to be done. I went to KGS bikes to have a fitting to see what could be done to adjust my bike so that it fit. Kevin Saunders spent a lot of time adjusting the saddle, saddle height, reach distance, etc. but it turned out that bike frame was too small. I verified this with three other reputable shops.\r The process started with a laser fitting during which the fit of the bike was determined by both my comfort and the power I could produce in each position. This process is VERY different than what the other local shops that offer GURU bikes do. They measure your body, but they don?t really get a sense of your position on the bike, and how your position actually affects your power. These types of things are not possible to determine by just measuring body parts and a few small measurements on a bike. That is what I learned in my previous bike buying adventure?If you?re buying a high end bike, it doesn?t make sense to use low end bike fit techniques. You get what you pay for.\r After the bike fitting, the dimensions were sent to GURU and they made my bike based on those dimensions. Once I received my bike Kevin made sure everything was just perfect...and he continues to provide outstanding service. You might have guessed that this process does not offer instant gratification?it took a while from the time I ordered my bike to when I was able to take it home, but it was DEFINITELY worth the wait, and I got what I paid for-a FABULOUS bike with SUPPORT that will last a lifetime. I recently purchased a Parlee from Kevin and it was categorically the best bike purchasing experience I have ever had. I live, ride and race in the Houston area, but will not hesitate to go back to San Antonio to buy from Kevin again! I went through his entire bike purchasing experience?from a multi-hour fitting to a very thorough bike pick up and first ride feedback. \r \r Kevin did an amazing job with my build. I have never seen this perfect of a build in 20 prior top-end bike purchases. Kevin also has a first class painter that he uses in San Antonio (Dave Sem) and that completely rounded out my experience with KGS. I've known Kevin Saunders for a long time, and even before he began his business, he was a cycling guru to me. I bought my first (and second!) road bike from him and he has always been meticulous, knowledgeable and concerned about my satisfaction with my bikes. I met Kevin Saunders through some cycling friends and was very interested in the bicycles that he sold and his bike fittings. My husband and I ride quite a bit, and have decent Trek bikes. I was looking for something unique to give my husband for his birthday and thought of Kevin. I called him and arranged to take my husband in with his bike for a fitting. Kevin was gracious and eager to help. He was very flexible in scheduling an appointment. The fitting itself was awesome. It took a couple of hours, but Kevin was meticulous and we felt like we were just hanging out with a friend. I stayed and observed the whole thing. We did have to spend some time lusting after all the custom bikes. My husband had been having back pain after riding (old back injury we thought) but after Kevin finished fitting the bike to him he rides pain free. Unfortunately for me he is faster also. So, I had to go in for the same treatment. It is unbelieveable how much more efficient my riding is after Kevin made all of the adjustments. He asked us to come back so that he could follow up and ensure that things were working for us. What a great guy and what a great experience. By far the best and most comprehensive bike shop in San Antonio, and the only one that has truly high end equipment. Kevin Saunders, the owner and whom you'll be personally greeted by as well as fitted is an oustanding professional who has years of experience himself as a cyclist. His attention to detail is unparalleled and being the consummate ""gear authority"" and exceptionally intelligent, he will figure out what ails you in your current fit, will design a bike that will be ""yours' and will last a lifetime of wonderful rides.\r \r I had major back problems stemming ( no pun intended) from a ill fitting bike- one that had been purchased from one of the ""high end"" shops in town. I had been refitted by some of the best- and still no relief.. I had developed a protruding disc in L-4, L-5 due to high mileage on the ill- fitted (and expensive!!) bike when I finally went to Kevin. He told me the bad news: too big, need a new bike, and sorry, they don't make them that small with 700 wheels, no toe overlap and a top tube with no slant. Must go custom. Custom I did; 6 weeks later completed a century and after about 6 months of settling into the new fit, I was pain free. One year later, I completed 4 century rides in a 6 week period, with 2 at sub 5 hours. A miracle! Thank you, Kevin. I've been cycling in the Austin area for a few years. During the course of time, I was like the typical cyclist and shop-hopped - one shop for a fitting, another shop for a bike and component upgrades - all the while compromising on what I had received in terms of service and merchandise. The reason I used the term ""compromising"" is because prior to meeting Kevin Saunders of KGS Bikes in San Antonio, that is what everything was: a compromise for something that could have been the best of the best.\r My first meeting with Kevin involved a comprehensive bike fitting - much more comprehensive than anything we have in the Austin area. Back aches, fatigue - these were my chronic symptoms before getting the right fit. To anyone who is considering cycling, I strongly advise you to book a precise fitting at KGS Bikes.
