Great Homemade Food! 1/18/2010

What a great restaurant! Our German waiter could not have been better, and the food was amazing. I had sauerbraten and a traditional bread dressing, it was insanely good. Our waiter recommended a beer from his hometown, and it went really beautifully with the meal. For dessert, I got the bienenstich, and it was delicious, if rich. The portions were actually a reasonable size (not massive, but dinner and dessert is enough to be nice and full). This is a great restaurant, we'll definitely be going back! Pros: Baked Goods, Wait Staff, Good Portions Cons: Small Menu more

Amazing 1/15/2010

This is a great, local place with amazing food! It's very authentic, and I've never been there without seeing the owner behind the counter (and talking to her in German). I love going here whenever I can just to pick up some rolls or whatever they happen to have that day. If you go, you have to try one of their many wonderful desserts! more

a must try! 5/11/2009

I love coming to Juergens. It feels like you are in Disney's Epcot in Germany. It is authentic and the owners and servers are very nice. It is different than the fast paced, American means we are used to. You go there to take your time and enjoy the food and atmosphere like they really do in Europe. Pros: Kraut Omlette/Atmosphere more

Great Southern German Cuisine 4/1/2009

We have eaten here quite often and it has always been splendid. Whenever we enter Jürgen's, I feel like a little boy in Germany on the daily way to the bakery with my grandmother again - everything reminds me of that, the smell, the pastries, the whole arrangement. My wife loves the Gulasch, I must confess that I go with the Käsebrot (cheese sandwich) - it tastes like home. The coffee is great, the pastries, too. They do also feature a collection of German food and you can read German yellow press if you like. Pros: Food, Service and Atmosphere more

Quality/Service Has Gone Downhill 6/8/2008

I used to love this place for delicious German cuisine but our experience there yesterday was horrible. Service was extremely poor (no water refills, server boxed our leftovers in warped takeout boxes, brought out entree 20 minutes before the sides that accompanied it), the serving sizes have shrinked dramatically (3 little chunks of meat in my gulaschsuppe), and my husband's double order of spaetzle (since they were already ""out"" of bread dumplings at noon) was maybe 1 cup total. Our bill came out to $30+, and we left feeling frustrated after nearly everything we had got cold before we could eat it or tasted horrible. The staff made no apologies for our horrible experience, and basically just shrugged it off. Needless to say, we felt so ripped off and frustrated that we left no tip as the service and attitude we received was abysmal. We won't be back. Pros: good bread Cons: just about everything else, including no AC on a 90+ degree day more

An amazing German Village secret! 8/17/2006

My girlfriend and I are blessed enough to live a block from Jergen's, and we cannot stop going there! Everything about the place screams authenticity. My girlfriend has spent much time in Europe and Germany (including Bavaria, where the owner is from) and she was definitely convinced. It's like walking into your German grandmother's house for a meal. The service is paced as fast as Rose wants to go, but she definitely takes care of you. She even sat down at the piano to play us some Bavarian tunes while we dined the other night. All of this isn't even to mention the plethora of treats she has at the counter, amazing German/European desserts and breads, as well as an eclectic mix of European sundries in the market area. If we didn't live a block away, we would probably make weekly trips and stay the night in the bed & breakfast on the upstairs level. And to top it ALL off...the price is RIGHT, incredible affordable for any location, let alone German Village. A full dinner with dessert and coffee can be had for around $30 and a hearty lunch will set you back $20. I was hesitant to post this review for fear of people learning of this magical little place that I'd like to call my own. Pros: Authentic, Affordable, Hidden! Cons: Unhealthy? (probably) Not the quickest of service, so don't be in a hurry. Enjoy! more

A German Treat! 4/6/2006

I shop here weekly for hearty breads and special-occasion deserts, or just to grab a treat on a Saturday stroll through German Village. Rose behind the counter is a Bavarian sweetheart! You cannot find breads like these anywhere else. Try the milchbrot, or the dark, or caraway if she has it. They bake things weekly or seasonally, so chances are, you find something different to try everytime you drop in. Pros: friendly, authentic, delicious Cons: short-staff sometimes more
