Best Beach Within City Limits 4/14/2003

This beach is most certainly better than Rockaway Beach. Sure it gets crowded but the sand looks as if it is maintained. I've been to beaches where there is more garbage than sand and I must say they keep Jones pretty clean. There are snack stands but if your not up on paying for crappy food then bring some good food in a cooler cause there are no ""real"" stores for miles. Pros: Cleaner than average Cons: Poor Snack/Food Shops more

Not bad at all 8/30/2002

JB is a good city escape, under an hour from midtown. There are three bus stops along the beach, each with concessions/facilities. The central areas of the beach are crowded with families. Further along on the west side of the beach is a predominantly gay area, and at either extremity of the beach topless sunbathing is common (and legal). Sand is OK but a bit coarse and sometimes a little dirty. more

Listen up 7/18/2002

The easiest way is to take the LIRR out of Penn Station to Freeport Station. Then, there's a bus stop right at the station. Take the Jones Beach Shuttle (comes about every 20-30 minutes). The whole round trip costs about $11. Pros: it's close Cons: too many people, not much eye candy more
