He led me to believe he had a plan of action but didn't follow any plan day in court. No court reporter was ordered even though he said he ordered one. He, alone chose to continue this important case without one. He used no discovery given to him. No bank statements, no tax returns. He had no important exhibits on him! He threw my 2 year case. Two months later, judges order was so called "lost in the mail", I found out about the order 18 days late. I told him I wanted a copy of the envelope when the order would eventually make its way to his office. He said "No, it's lost, maybe they sent it to my old office." I checked with judges clerk, it was mailed to his office. Rarely, are things lost in the mail. Jon is a liar and misleads people to believe he is on their side but in reality, he is the only one he cares about. My exs council was pleased with my lack of representation, lack of discovery that supported the reason why I was there. The judge at fee hearing said she thought the council was together on this and she had to go with my ex's council because he was the only one who did child support calculations, Jon sent none. This is a true story, this actually happened and I would not recommend anyone to use him. He should be barred for what he did to me. I wonder if hiding an order is obstructing justice? more

We've been involved in a divorce/child custody and support case for well over 10 yrs now. We've sought legal assistance from several different lawyers from different counties as we struggled to find someone who would work with our best interests as their first priority. One morning over breakfast after just being served with another notice to appear (in 2 days!) we pulled the phonebook and made a split second decision to just pick one and call. Jon was the first call we made and he accepted our case over the phone and met that afternoon. Jon appeared beside us in court for the first time and shocked us all. Jon is upfront and honest. Jon continues to keep us well informed of the status of our case and asks for our input prior to making any decisions on our behalf (which was an issue with previous attorneys). We've seen more turns in our favor and made greater progress in the last nine months of working with Jon then we had in the 10 yrs working with others and as a added bonus Jon has a down to earth personality and witty sense of humor making him approachable and easy to talk to. Speaking from experience, if, as a nice and kind person desiring representation free from sarcastic comments which humiliate and embarrass the other parent of your children, you object to deliberate last-minute proposals which blindside and hurt that person and their extended family which is also the family of your children, then Jon is not for you. If the welfare of your children is your top priority and you want someone who believes the rights of your children should take precedence over parental rights, even if it means sacrificing yourselves as parents so your children can experience opportunities afforded them apart from you and/or their other parent, then I recommend you look elsewhere for representation. If your time and money are important to you and you want someone that not only arrives on time for your hearings and/or trial but also discourages incurring more court costs than necessary therefore saving you and the other parent of your children money, then hire someone who cares about what is important to you. However, if seeking revenge at any cost is your game, then Jon D. McLaughlin, Esq. is your man. more

After a lot of checking around, and some interviews, I went with Jon. I was looking for mediation services, and Jon does a great job with this. He is easy to work with, is up front about everything (including costs), and treats both parties fairly. Divorce is hard but mediation with Jon has made it easier for both of us, its much easier working things out when Jon is mediating. more

He knew the laws and stuff, and my husband's did not. We settled in the end, but it felt good that he could advise me and I felt like he knew his stuff!! more

I saw a couple of other lawers before seeing jon. They all wanted loads of money and siad it would take forever. Jon was honest and blunt with me. He got it done real fast and it didn't cost an arm and a leg--just an arm. Just kidding. This guy is a good one! more
