Fun place for the kids but the food was very average. Burgers came luke warm and very greasy. Soggy fries.

Editorial review from GrubHub 5/18/2013

I ordered Johnny's Luncheonette and got it delivered to my college. First of all, the food was EXTREMELY COLD when it arrived - the fries felt like they had just been dumped in a bucket of cold water and served. The chicken fingers tasted alright. I ordered a grilled chicken SANDWICH - I asked for a slice of cheese, no tomato and onion. I received a big piece of grilled chicken in a contained with lettuce underneath it and a slice of cheese on top. THERE WAS NO BREAD. Even after I selected a hamburger bun for my sandwich, they decided not to send me any bread. I would not order from here again. more

Long waiting line, Great food 8/26/2007

The best hamburgers with fries in town. I would go their more often if the service was slightly quicker though. It's worth going their once, for the food. It, of course is only good for a casual meal, or if one is very hungry, thanks to the portions. Pros: The food. Cons: The crowd, the service. more

fun lunch spot 11/16/2006

Great place to grab a sandwich for lunch. If you go, don't forget to add on sweet potato fries here!! more

Great Place 10/29/2006

We live in Newton and love Johnny's. Great food, fast service and great selection of down home comfort and breakfast foods. Watch out for the weekend breakfast crowds! Try the French Toast...different but awesome. more

3 Strikes Out 5/31/2006

This is the third time I have gone for food here. I can't understand how anyone can ruin breakfeast food and lunch so consistently. Food at best is mediocre and service is marginal. I watched my plate of food come up and waited 5 minutes for the server to finally pick it up and bring it to the table. The place wasn't even busy. My kids enjoy food and even they do not want to come back. Breakfeast for 2 came to $30.00. Pros: Location, Parking Cons: Mediocre Food, expensive, service more

nice place 8/29/2005

I went to this place 2 times, alone, for lunch, being close to work location. Food was great but the place is little bit crowded and you have to wait to get a table. Pros: lots of parking, prompt service Cons: crowded more

Affordable???? 3/10/2004

I like Johnny's. I really do. The food is great. The people are nice. The atmosphere is very diner-ish. However, I have take issue with ANY editorial that refers to Johnny's as ""affordable"". $9 for a reuben sandwich and a pickle??? This is Newton, not Manhattan. My last (read: most recent, or read: final) lunch for two people at Johnny's: 2 sandwiches, 2 cokes, 1 order of fries = $30.00 (incl. tip). Never again. Pros: Tasty, Good Atmosphere, Lotsa Parking Meters Cons: , Prices more

A gem! 2/3/2004

Johnny's is a favorite restaurant when in the need for some homey foods. The menu is extensive, and the food still exceeds expectations. Great breakfast, but watch out for the weekend crowds! I recommend the deli sandwiches and the burgers.. oh, lets not forget the homemade sweet potato fries! Prices are shockingly cheap, service is top notch, and you stomach will thank you no matter what you get. I feel like I'm at an old diner in NJ here! Pros: atmosphere, menu, value more

A great value 12/6/2002

This is a good resturant. The food is good, but the resturant itself is very crowded. Service is prompt, and it has the ambience of a diner. Overall, a great value, but the crowds may get to you. Pros: Inrxpensive, Lots of Parking Cons: Crowded more

GOOD FOOD AND ATMOPSHERE 7/17/2002

I go to Johnny's pretty often, and the food and service has been consistent. You can order breakfast anytime of the day, and it's a lot better than your average IHOP. It may be a bit more expensive, but it is worth it. The 50's diner atmosphere is also neat. Overall, a good place to eat and talk with friends, especially during the weekends. more
