Decent beer, poor service at the bar. 11/16/2006

When I travel I make a habit of checking out the local brewpubs. I had about 45 minutes to spare so I stopped in. I checked the chalk board above the bar as you enter to see what was on tap and then sat down at the bar. I waited for about 5 minutes while the bar tender mostly chatted with her friends. I asked for one of the beers listed on the chalk board and it was not available and the second was not available either (out of Pale Ale - that is a first!). The bar tender seemed to get impatient with me so I went ahead and ordered the Rauchbeer (pretty good but I'd like more smoke). I asked if they had a beer menu (why wasn't it offered?) and after waiting again almost 4 minutes it was delivered (it was right across from where I was sitting!). I waved for another beer (I really wanted to try the Cream Ale) but was not noticed by the bar tender chatting away. I finally just left in disguist. I have visited brew pubs from Seattle to Ft. Lauderdale and this is a first for me! Pros: Decent beer selection - adventurous for a small place. Cons: Indifferent service at the bar. more

Top 5 1/29/2006

This is on my top 5 list for the area. The lobster Bisque is a must have. For those who want a light meal there are many kinds of salads. For the hearty eateryou can indulge with creative dishes for this area. LARGE portions of all meals. Meatloaf is great as well. Staff curtious and willing to an unexpected large group as well as just 2 people. Lighting is dimmed but not overly so. Interesting stained glass work. Bring your appitie and your friends. You will not be disapointed. Pros: great food, helpfull staff, atmosphere Cons: some TV's more

Good brew and good food. 11/5/2005

This place has decent atmosphere and usually a nice brew to choose amongst the several they have on tap to chase down their decent selection of food. Burgers are solid; the grilled salmon was tasty, and the mudslide pie was excellent. more

Surprisingly bland food 5/23/2005

The beers are great but the food can be surprisingly bland. At least the grilled meatloaf has a gutsy barbeque sauce. Avoid the entrees with a "nut brown ale sauce" - it tastes like watery butter - ugh. Not that it is a big issue for me, but the resturant has subdued lighting at night and can be downright gloomy during the day. Pros: Great beers Cons: Bland, bland, bland! more

another corporate brewpub 6/28/2002

John Harvard's is another corporate brew pub chain. started in Boston, have 3 in the Philly area. the fact that it is corporate doesn't mean it sucks. on the contrary. I've been here several times for dinner and brews and the food is always good. diverse menu that goes beyond the standard pub grub. and the microbrews are good also. be sure to get there for the happy hour specials. this place draws a very Main Line crowd so valet park your Range Rover and be sure to wear your best J.Crew Pros: good food, brewpub on-site more
