I take my Italian food very seriously! 8/12/2011

I consider myself an amazing cook which makes me very difficult to please, especially when it comes to Italian cuisine. Let me tell you: This place is freakin' AMAZING! From the atmosphere to the service to the presentation to the dessert, Joe's far exceeded my every expectation! The basket of bread arrived 2 seconds after my butt hit the chair and less than 5 seconds later a plate of quality flavorful olive oil perfectly blended with classic Italian spices sat right next to it. The salad was just the right size and unlike other restaurants doesn't come 'gunked up' with unrecognizable greens that look as if they were just pulled from an abandoned and overgrown lot. When my server asked if I wanted House Italian or Ranch dressing (the only 2 choices) I worried just a bit, but went with Ranch, which was amazing! As for the amount: It wasn't too much, wasn't too little, but just right. I ordered the 'house speciality' Ravioli Rose' (beef ravioli with a tomato cream sauce). My ONLY complaint (and this is a stretch) is the ravioli was a touch overdone, but in no way so overdone I couldn't eat it due to a mush factor. I prefer more aldente' pasta. Based on the quality service I received, I have no doubt if I'd specified aldente' the staff would have moved heaven and earth to make that happen. For dessert I went with a classic cannoli which can be a crap-shoot. Too often even the most 'classic' Italian restaurants make cannoli very heavy and sweet, which traditionally it should never be. True cannoli is light & delicate; the perfect ending to a hearty meal. Joe's does NOT disappoint! My server made the cannoli cake sound so amazing I had to get a piece to go. Okay, this ain't your Mama's piece of cake! They brought me a freakin' HUNK of cake! As for the taste of that hunk: As good if not better than the cannoli! ""Mama"" even came out from the kitchen wearing an apron, enormous smile, sporting a twinkle in her eye and a genuine laugh in her chest. You immediately get the sense this is a woman who has nursed many a cold, bandaged many a scraped knee and bounced many a grandchild on her lap. Mama even went so far as to dance and clap a bit for the few remaining customers during this Thursday lunch hour (we arrived at 1:00 & left about 3:00). From start to finish Joe's Italian lives up to every claim of authentic Italian fare. I will absolutely be returning, for the food, the family atmosphere and the genuine good times! more

My husband and I tried Joe's Italian for lunch awhile back after hearing about how good it was. We were disappointed. We both got the crab ravioli and it was just ok. The salad had nothing but lettuce (no tomatoes or cucumbers, etc.) and the house dressing was a bit bland. We again kept hearing rave reviews and thought we must have just ordered the wrong thing. So we went back last Saturday evening (January 16 at 5:00 p.m.) . We were told there was a 35 minute wait and it turned into an hour. We ordered lasagna. When it was brought to us, it looked like a platter of red soup. I had to dig around to find the lasagna. It tasted ok. Again, the salad was just lettuce and bland dressing. We are not drinkers. They served wine and Sprite while we were waiting. Alot of people drank alot of it. Maybe that's why alot of people say Joe's is great. We didn't think so. more

Fantastic, Fantastic, Fantastic 12/15/2009

Try Joe's. It is worth the wait. The Food is Incredible. The Service and ambiance are AWESOME. Live Accordian music on Friday and Saturday nights. 5 STARS. more

Joe's Italian is AWESOME 10/12/2009

When Joe's opened up within walking distance of our house, I was wondering how it would do at the entrance of our subdivision. But after eating there several times myself and seeing the crowds every day, it is no wonder why they are doing so great. The food is fantastic, the service is good and there's nothing like it around. With the bread & oil, then the fantastic soup (or salad if you prefer), it's a great start. If you like an appetizer, the mushrooms are awesome. I've had their lasagna, chicken parmagiana and the chicken fettuccine - all great! My wife and mother-in-law have enjoyed the lobster ravioli and egglant parmagiana. Recently, my wife & I shared one of Mama's specials - cannelloni. It was so good that I think it's become one of my favorites. And don't even get me started on their desserts. They are too good to be true - Mama's strawberry cake and chocolate cake - Yum! And the cheesecakes are good too! There's nothing I don't like. I've also had take-out several times and more

I've never been disappointed. I'm glad they're finally getting to expand at their present location. Thanks Joe & family for a great Italian dining experience right in our neighborhood!!! Pros: the food Cons: the crowds more

FANTASTICO 10/3/2009

- From the basket of warm bread to the hearty minestrone soup to the ""house made"" Italian dressing on the salad to the grilled eggplant with spaghetti and house made fresh tomato sauce to the wild finish of Mamma's marscapone rum cake, the experience of dinner at Joe's Italian ranks among our favorite meals ever. Not since the long-ago original Vince's in Oakland have my husband and I found another truly great Italian restaurant. We never saw Vince himself during the heyday of the Oakland A's, but the real Joe is very much a presence at Joe's Italian, Pizza, Pasta & Caff?, as is Mamma. Mamma invents and bakes new cakes with texture that is almost unbelievable. (Edgar's Bakery, move over.) Mamma's cakes can only be described in superlatives for moistness, presentation, and flavor. Joe's was packed on a Wednesday night. A Wednesday!! We had a short wait. Watching all the food pass by us to tables made us anticipate our dinner that much more. Todd, our waiter, could recite all of the ingredients in the regular entrees, the specials for the night, and the wide assortment of desserts, mostly Mamma's imaginative cakes. Knowing that Joe's house made sauces and ambience are less than an hour away from Montgomery is likely to make us regular Wednesday customers. Pros: Best Italian EVER Cons: Food is so good that the wait to get in can be long more
