Poor Service Indeed 10/12/2011

Family lives in the neighborhood and has always supported the local Joe's Diner. Food has been generally good and prices high but reasonable for supporting local farmers. Every few months, Joe's has coupons in the Premium Shopping Guide. We usually use the Buy One Get One Free coupon that requires you purchase two beverages as well. The coupon this month also stated there was a 19% gratuity, however we were ordering take out. We called to confirm the coupon is valid for take out, which it was. No where on it does it say dine-in only, but apparently it is implied in the gratuity ""clause"". Went to pick-up the order after the 15 minute estimate had expired and ended up waiting an additional 15 minutes. Left with the order only to find out they forgot to give us the beverages we ordered. The server was polite, but unflinching on charging us 19% gratuity on a TAKE OUT order. The percentage was applied on the total and not the subtotal, which is also completely inappropriate. We even called to express our displeasure with the gratuity charge to which they said we could pay the full price and use the coupon later or just pay the gratuity. Having previously worked as a server, NEVER has this been the case with takeout orders. The burgers we ordered were over $16 dollars and not even cooked as we requested. We are really disappointed because, as expensive as Santa Fe is, we love supporting local establishments. Especially those that support our local farmers. This alone should not sell Joe's DIner. They need to improve their service and menu before we consider returning. more

you are embarrassing 7/27/2011

The next time people visit from out of town, I will not talk them into trying this local establishment. We would have been better off spending half the money and getting larger and tastier food portions somewhere else. In the very least the service could have been half way decent. It can be described as unfriendly and slow. If Santa Fe wants to grow it's economy and bring in more tourists, this is NOT the example to follow. Your food is WAY over priced and some of your wait staff are a joke. All visitors and tourists I know will be going elsewhere. Take it easy, Joes. more

At Joe's Diner, be prepared... 5/22/2011

...to be disappointed by the service... Obviously, there are those 5 stars (employees??? Family???) out there that will disagree, but this is our experience for a Saturday evening out... turning into the ultimate insult. I give credit where credit is due. The food was good. Service was non-existent. We placed our order for a liver pate' with an onion marmalade and a mussels appetizer and salad. Having our heart and mouth set on the pate' and I LOVE mussels... they never arrived. Nor did the salads. The runner arrived with our entrees: 2 prime rib cuts (small portioned by my gauge) with a ""twice"" baked potato that didn't get baked the 2nd time. Both while small, were quite tasty. Our waitress NEVER returned to our table (probably because she knew she screwed up) except to show us our choices for dessert (declined) and our check. Total bill for our evening $57.10. (no alcohol) I wrote of our disappointment on the back of our charge slip in three simple words: Won't be back. Please, if you go, don't get your hopes up about the service. The ""Chef"" (Rowland) may be a good ""cook"", but has a LOT to learn about service to those that pay his bills... In my HUMBLE opinion more

My favorite stop in Santa Fe HANDS DOWN! 4/22/2011

Any time I come through Santa Fe, I always stop at Joe's Diner! The food is exceptional and the service is always wonderful. The prices are incredibly reasonable and I love the fact that they use fresh ingredients. I think the other reviews are probably from the competition in town because I have never had a bad meal here, nor have any of the people I traveled with. Roland even remembered us when we came back almost a year later! I will continue to come to Joe's anytime I'm around...even if I'm not stopping in Santa Fe to stay. It's just consistently great and I love the atmosphere! more

Disliked EVERYTHING! 3/15/2011

The cheese on the pizza is fake, the waitstaff is THE WORST I have ever encountered, the food is extremely over priced and NOT good, and the portion sizes are small (might not be that bad of a thing because the food is so gross you won't eat everything that is on your plate anyway)! HORRIBLE! Do not eat here! more

Terrible service and uncaring attitude 4/15/2010

My husband and I recently ate at Joe's Diner one evening. The restaurant was about 1/3 full. We were seated in a booth and then forgotten about for about 25 minutes with no water delivered and no flatware on the table. The chef/owner Roland Richter was engaged in an animated conversation with a couple at a nearby table. He did not know them and the discussion appeared trivial and unrelated to food. We signalled him to come over which he did reluctantly. We said that we had not received any water and that no one had approached us to get our order. He did not apologize and asked us what we wanted. He was in such a hurry to get back to his conversation that he did not write down the order so when our appetizers arrived about 10 minutes later they were not what we had ordered. We then waited a further 10 minutes for the correct appetizer. The entree a salad with grilled salmon arrived later with the salmon cooked on the outside and raw on the inside. By that time we were too disheartened to even send it back or to complain. Pros: Occasional good meals Cons: Mostly terrible and negligent service more

just awful 2/19/2010

Ugh. Just avoid this place. It's completely awful. I'm not kidding. The service is ridiculously bad, the menu is overpriced, and the food is just gross. And their claims of using fresh organic ingredients and their sale of Michael Pollan's book in the foyer seem like just a Santa Fe-centric marketing ruse. Pollan would not approve of this place. Trust me. Cons: atrocious service, expensive, terrible food more

Diner Whiner 2/8/2009

Joe's still has lots to learn. Ten of us were there recently on a slow night. We ordered and shortly thereafter our food began coming out, dish by dish by dish, long before our drinks ever showed up. Several people finished their meals before others received theirs. This is totally unacceptable and we do not plan to return. more

RIP OFF!!!! 11/7/2008

Unfortunately I had done takeout and was unable to return my food. Pros: Near my House Cons: Overcharge, poor attitude more

the worst service 2/10/2007

Today we went to Joe's for a bite to eat. We arrived at 3:05. We were told by the young man with the white shirt, military-looking haircut, and tie, that the brunch menu was still being served. We would have gladly ordered from the regular menu, but when he said we had time to order from the specials. more

Downright Dreadful Food/Service 10/15/2006

We'd been to Joe's several months ago and had fairly decent food and service. Last Saturday evening we invited friends to join us for dinner. The restaurant was not busy, yet the service was absolutely pathetic (the waitress could not pronounce the names of the entrees or drinks, the food did not come out in synch or on time, etc.) and the food was oversalted, tasteless and totally boring. We made a complaint to the owner/manager, were given four coupons for future meals, but we do not plan to return there ever again. When we left at 8:00, the restaurant was virtually empty - this being on a Saturday night, a busy night for most restaurants. Santa Fe has too many other good restaurants where we can be treated better and get tastier food on time. Pros: None. Cons: Poor service and dreadful food. more

Good food 6/8/2006

The other 3 posts are from employees for advertising purposes. Not really good for business. The food is good. The staff/owner leaving feedback for their own place of business is very unprofessional. more

User review by voge 12/23/2005

Not really a diner, far far better than a lot of ""fine"" dining establishments. Seems that everyone knows everyone there. Went for the dinner special that night and had possibly the best roast duck I've ever had with pear-mashed potatoes and BBQ red cabbgage with a quince sauce. Jeez, does that sound like a diner? Great music also - someone there has outstanding ear for music and what makes people feel comfortable. The menu is huge so looking forward to returning with friends. Pros: nice wine list, great amiance, take-out Cons: closed Mondays more

Joe's Diner is one of the best places I have ever been. I was shocked when I walked into this ""diner"" and found that as well as the usual burgers and fries, the menu included so many other ""fine"" dining items and the prices were outstanding. The special was organic pumpkin wonton ravioli, which I couldn't resist. It was topped with a delicate butter sage sauce that was delectable. I was able to sit down, enjoy a beautiful wine and was tempted by the desserts but decided on a hazelnut mocha instead. It was by far the best atmosphere and dining expeirence I have had in quite a while. more

Diner goes high class 4/4/2005

This is not a ordinary Diner, only the prices are diner like. This full service kitchen prepared Rack of Lamb on a mesquite fired grill to perfection, the Roast Duck was crispy and tender and fingerlicking goood. A small selection of wines by the glass perfectly matched for food and season. A Black 'n Tan came perfectly layered, The Hamburger was Rare as ordered and the fresh, housemade mozzarella tasted like real ""fiore di latte"". Pros: inexpensive, great selection, open all day Cons: closed mondays more
