Never again!! So much for supporting a local business... 10/5/2008

I live in the same town as this reastaurant, and I will never recomend it to any one. It gives people reason to complain about the prices in an area that can be very expensive. A friend and I went in, and knowing how large the portions are said to be, ordered one pan of pasta to share, at the overpriced $24 for pasta carbonara. It ended up being even more over priced at $36, as they charge an extra $12 to share an entree, a fact neither my friend or I saw on the menu and which was mot mentioned by the waitress. We also did not realize it on the bill as there was just one total for food, and one for the bottle of wine plus the tax-nothing was itemized. And the waitress who had not rushed us at all thru dinner was suddenly in a hurry to get us paid and out. Now I know why. Cons: pricing policies more

Not all it is cracked up to be ! 7/14/2008

First let me tell you that the address listed here is incorrect. I put the address in my GPS, and although there is that street on the Vineyard, it is not the address to the resturaunt. It took us on dirt roads deep in the woods and were were far away from the restaurant for some time. Once we finally called information and got to the resturaunt, we did get a table right away. The server was not very friendly, and certainly not attentive. We waited for the bread that was included in the meal, but not brought. When the meal was delivered, I had to ask for bread which usually comes before the meal and was stated on the menu that it was included in the meal. After she delivered the bread, I asked why we did not receive any salad, also included. The waitress stated that they were out of salad earlier and that is why we didn't receive any. It was only 6pm so I don't understand why they were out already, but that isn't the issue. The issue is that nobody explained that to us, they just didn't serve it. During the meal, the hostess checked 3-4 times to see if we were almost done, which I found rude. The food was ok, but certainly up to the hipe. We won't return. more

Over-rated and beware of take-out fees!!! 6/26/2007

My best friend and I have been going to Jimmy Seas for years and it used to be one of our favorites. Sadly, in our last few visits we've noticed that the levels of service, quality of food and reasonable prices have all decreased. To top things off - this May, we placed 2 take-out orders of what used to be our favorite entree - Jimmy's butternut squash ravioli. When we picked up our order, we were given a bill of $58.90 - nearly $60 bucks which seemed outrageous for a take-out order. We were shocked and asked for an itemized receipt, which they couldn't produce. We asked for an explanation of the bill and we're told that all takeout orders are charged an 18% gratuity fee and a 15% packaging fee - which was not indicated when we placed the order. We felt as though we we're ripped off, taken advantage of, and treated rudely by the wait staff when we asked for details on why the bill seemed so high. We won't be returning to Jimmy Seas in the future and wanted to warn people about their undisclosed take-out fees. Our advice, there are plenty of comparable places to eat in Oak Bluffs and this place no longer lives up to the hype. It's not going to take us long to find a replacement. more

Long lines, bad service, great food! 7/14/2006

When we got to Jimmy Seas, it was clear that the chaos had ensued hours earlier, and clusters of patrons paced back and forth angrily awaiting their tables. The hostess had no idea what she was doing, and she gave people's tables away when she wasn't supposed to, etc. It was a mess and there were lots of perturbed people around. We ended up having to wait about a little over an hour for a table, which is to be expected pretty much anywhere on a Friday night. The service inside was not good either, as all the servers were rushed and not very pleasant. We started with the roasted garlic appetizer, which was tasty. We split the Chicken Hazel dish (they charge $7.50 for splitting) as our entree, but there was so much food that we even had leftovers to take home. Granted, the entree (before the splitting fee) was $24, so it was nice to get a decent amount of food for that price. The entree was absolutely delicious, a perfect balance of flavors. We didn't have room for dessert, and we didn't have money left for dessert either - the appetizer, the one entree, one iced tea, tax, and tip set us back over $50. So yeah, it's pricey (but pretty much everything on the Vineyard is), the lines are long, and the service is subpar, but boy do they make up for their shortcomings with the food. Pros: Excellent food Cons: bad service, long lines, expensive more

Our favorite restaurant on the Vineyard. Delicious food with a heavy emphasis on garlic and pasta. Small space can make for tight quarters and long lines. But the mood is festive and all is forgiven once the food is delivered. The best! more
