JJL did and water feature, landscape and irrigation job for me. We were very happy with the results and the price. Yes it was expensive but remember you get what you pay ! We have positive comments all the time from neighbors walking and have even had people walk through the back yard to check out the water feature. We highly reccomend JJL for any outdoor needs. more

This is a very honest review. First, please note that every single one of the prior 17 reviews left for this company are all suspiciously written within 2 weeks of each other in March this year, all similarly written. It seems the some person (the owner?) has been very busy fabricating these reviews. I've known of this company for several years and have had work done by them in the past. They are VERY overpriced, charging $900 to plant a 2"" dia tree which costs around $150 at the nursery! Further, the owner, Jim is a very cocky arrogant person and very hard to work with. They come out with 10-15 employees in a rush to throw in the plants and mulch in a few short hours with no regard to the existing plants or grass claiming ""collateral"" damage! He didn't need to drive his big trucks or machines across my yard for a few yards of mulch that could have been wheel-barrowed like my previous company did. I paid $13,000 for a landscape that was loosely thrown into the ground in about 4 hours. Months later plants were settling too deep in the ground and trees falling over because they weren't packed into the ground properly. I witnessed an event around 2009 where he was yelling at his employees in a terrible way and later when I was talking to the foreman he told me several stories about how they are all treated by the owner, Jim, which was unsettling to me. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY! There are so many other great companies in Brentwood and I would recommend calling almost ANYONE else other than this jerk! Happened to pull into the parking lot as my vet was next door because I noticed some norway spruce...of good size...that I had been looking for. So I decided to walk around and look at all the evergreens when Jim came out to ask if I needed help. Not pushy but certainly if I needed. I ended up choosing a wide variety of good size trees for my back yard at a very reasonable price. They came to our house and planted and again, did a great job. I could not be happier with the experience or the trees. They are already sprouting new green growth! I plan to go back and do business again as I feel it so important to support our small locally owned and operated businesses. You will absolutely never get the same quality and attention at a Lowe's or Home Depot. It feel good to do business that way...even if it costs a little more...and I am not so certain in first go around that it actually did. I highly recommend Jim and his staff. Their professional staff visited our site, scheduled the work according to our convenience and made excellent recommendations to save on cost and to enhance our existing landscaping. The crews arrived precisely on time and were very courteous and professional. The workmanship was excellent, with significant attention to detail, and the products used were hearty, healthy, quality products. Our family has used Jim Johnson Landscape for over 20 years. They have done the landscaping for 3 homes in our family as well as take care of our planters, and beautiful hanging baskets at our business location in Brentwood. I think the main reason we still continue our business is because of the personal relationship Jim and Kathy have built with us, and alway making sure everything is done to prefection and to our satisfaction, as well as there honesty. I know there business is widely based on refferals as any small business these days. In 2008 my wife and I had a custom home built in the Nashville area. We were meticulous in every aspect of building the home. I spent a lot of time and effort researching and choosing each contractor who worked on the home. Landscaping was no exception! After a considerable amount effort consisting of research and interviews, my wife and I chose to work with Jim Johnson Landscaping. Jim and Kathy Johnson, owners of Jim Johnson Landscaping, are professional and great to work with. Jim is straightforward and honest about the process. He educated us on the specifics of the project and worked very closely with us in creating a design that met our landscaping needs within our budget. We presented Jim with a completely blank canvas and in simple terms told him what we wanted. In a less then a week Jim presented us with a detailed landscape design. After the work began, we decided to make a adjustments to the design as construction the home came to an end. Jim was very accommodating and professional with all of our request and offered creative options for us to consider. At the completion of the project we were so happy with the results that we asked Jim to install our circular driveway. We couldn't figure out what type of finish we wanted, so he spent a week with us driving all over Nashville giving us ideas on potential driveway finishes. We finally settled with his original proposal, which was a beautiful tumbled stone paver with a color died concrete curb. We couldn't be happier with the results. In the end, Jim and Kathy Johnson created exactly what we were hoping for, a traditional southern looking landscape that looks absolutely beautiful. If you are looking for a good landscaping company you have found it in Jim Johnson Landscaping. I have used them several times at my residence in the past few years and am consistently pleased with their work. They installed an irrigation system and I was amazed at the speed with which they performed the task. When they were done they cleaned everything up and you could not even tell that they had been there except that I had a nice new watering system for my lawn and planting beds. They call every year to remind me that it is time to winterize the system. I also had them install a new patio paver system and matching retaining wall. They worked well into the evening so as not to inconvenience me any longer than necessary and once again when they were done the place was spotless. I would not hesitate to recommend this company for any of your landscaping, irrigation or hardscaping needs whether it be residentail or commercial. We want to say how completely thrilled we are with the work JJL has done for us. They turned what was a mere necessity into more than we imagined or expected. We recently renovated including an addition to the rear of our home. This required major excavation and a substantial retaining wall which could have been a potential distraction to the overall picture of the house. Instead JJL designed and installed an elegant stone wall with a stairway and gorgeous patio that looks as if it's been there for ages. Kathy's design style is impeccable and Jim and his crew literally chiseled and carved out the existing stone in the area and made it into a true thing of beauty - something that many would have said was impossible. They simply go above and beyond which is hard to come by these days. Out of all the people involved in our home's renovation project, JJL and its employees were unprecedented in design, timeliness, courtesy and making sure the job was done right. They worked on weekends in extreme weather conditions in order to facilitate the progression of other contractors and even left the work site cleaner than when they arrived. Our family has known Jim & Kathy Johnson for over 12 years and we have and always will consider them a true blessing in our lives. Completed a landscaping and irrigation project with Jim Johnson Landscaping during fall 2009. From start to finish, this project was a wonderful experience. I found all associated with JJL to be professional, creative and extremely reliable. The project was completed as promised and scheduled. I use Jim Johnson Landscaping for all of my personal and professional landscaping needs. For my customers I always recommend JJL irrigation and lighting systems, referrals that I don't trust with just any company, but one that has proven itself over and over. I have always liked the local feel at JJL.. Help with my decisions on plant material, and design for areas that I am having difficulty with have been their strong suit for me. In my opinion it takes someone that has been their and done hard jobs of installing, designing and overseeing beautiful projects, this allows me their knowledge to build more on my own.
