Jim Jay's Bbq & Catering

Good: The character was nice and the service was good.. Bad: The pulled pork. This was basically that crap you find in a tub at wal-mart that you heat up. This was not bbq. I saw a tacky little shack on palm bay road and thought, "Hey, maybe someone will do some decent bbq" Nope. It was either from the tub microwaved or sat in a crockpot overnight. This was terrible. One day, this area will have a good bbq joint, but this place is not it. I hate to say it, but even Sonny's is better, and they aren't good at all.. more

Tonight my husband and I went to eat at Jim Jay's for the first time. When we pulled up on our motorcycle in the parking lot, we saw that the sign said "closed" but before we could turn around to leave, Jim invited us to stay and eat. He was polishing a cute little car that he had just purchased at a garage sale, and said that the grill was hot and even though he is only open for lunch, and then for dinner on Friday nights, he would be happy to cook for us. So my husband and I had the place to ourselves while Jim cooked us the best BBQ baby back ribs you could imagine, They were so tender that the meat fell off of the bone. The potato salad was home made and very good also. Jim is such a sweet man, he makes you feel like family and he has a wonderful servant's heart. So if you are in the mood for really good BBQ ribs and pulled pork, or burgers and other subs and sandwiches, we highly recommend that you visit Jim Jay's. It's like going over to a friend's house to eat instead of a restaurant. more

I was brought here for a friends birthday. We were greeted by the owner and his wife and treated as though he had known us for ever and ever. The food was incredible and prepared as we wanted it to be. The proprietor kept checking on us, bringing us things. He had just made a cake (YES, MADE) would you like some? I suggest this today. No, don't eat that, I didn't do a good job with it this time, etc... The atmosphere is small, cluttered and oh, so comfortable with musical instruments hanging off the walls everywhere. People drop in, order, pick up an instrument and start picking. Want to know some local gossip? Well, just listen at the counter; he knows EVERYONE! This is Americana not corporate and the food is pure and simple great. Wonderful. Just wonderful. Small and just quirky enough that you should expect to sit and talk a bit. But that's what a local I supposed to be like, right?Great local place to go to again and again and again. If you have folks visiting and they want to see a Palm Bay place, take 'em here! more
