This studio is never ready for dance competitions. Very unprofessional. If a teacher gets sick, you often don't know until you drive your child to the studio and find a sign on ...

Please do not take your children here 7/12/2010

As a mom who experienced this studio first hand, I highly recommend you go somewhere else. Yes, in the past they have taught good technique. However, there are much better studios out there for technique who are far more professional and truly have the best interest of the students at heart. The students are not treated fairly, they are talked about by the teachers to other students and teachers, you are way overcharged for things like costumes, paper fees, etc. and they have lost many of their best students and teachers. The atmosphere is drama filled and more about who is mad at who or who is dating who than it is about learning an art. There is no freedom for creativity and is basically ran as a dictatorship. They seem to have forgotten that the students and their parents pay their bills! Their enrollment has drastically shrunk and other more professional studios have absorbed those students who truly want to make dance a career. Find a great ballet studio and forget about competition studios if your child really wants to learn to dance. Pros: good technique Cons: Unprofessional, Drama filled, too expensive, more

ADFA - Excellent Studio! 7/2/2010

5 years ago when my oldest daughter expressed an interest in dancing, there was no question in my mind where I would take her. ADFA has a reputation of providing quality dance instruction, and the fact that this studio has been around for 30+ years speaks for itself. 5 years later we are still at ADFA and couldn't be happier. I have seen tremendous growth in my daughter as a dancer. She is learning how to dance, not just a dance to perform on stage. I have another daughter that just finished her first year at ADFA, and even though she is only 4 I know she has learned a great deal this year as well as had a lot of fun. All the teachers at ADFA are wonderful! They nurture each student's love of dancing. They encourage students to work hard, as well as challenge them to do their absolute best. Not only are they learning how to dance, but they are learning life skills and forming relationships that will go with them beyond the studio doors. We have been very happy at ADFA and are very excited about new owner, Sadie Roberts and the direction in which she is moving with the studio. As long as my girls are dancing, we will be dancing at ADFA! Pros: Fantastic teachers more

Dance dance dance, I hope you dance 7/2/2010

Great place, great teachers, great students. Give it a try, you will love it! Pros: great teachers more

ADFA Family 7/1/2010

It was the recommendation of a dance instuctor that led us to ADFA, but it is the confidence building and family atmosphere that will continue to have us drive past 2 other Mooresville studios to this one. The new owner has made great strides in one year to organize the information flow on a daily basis. She has also been flexible with my busy family situation and honestly listened to challenges many of us had and implemented schedule changes to make life easier. Whether you have a child who wants to be a dancer or just loves to dance, like mine, you will be continually impressed with how you are welcomed and trained at ADFA. Pros: Technical training focus & Family atmosphere more

ACADEMY OF DANCE AND FINE ARTS...the best!! 6/30/2010

My child dances at ADFA and I love it!! She is extremely happy at this studio. We have been at ADFA for 5 years and they have been great. She has grown so much as a dancer. The owner of ADFA, Sadie Roberts, teaches each child to embrace the art of dance. Pros: Professional, Technique Driven, Students Come First Cons: There are no Cons at ADFA. more

Technical Dance Training 6/30/2010

ADFA came highly recommended to me by many different studio owners and teachers in the Charlotte region, where I used to dance, because I was looking for a studio in the Lake Norman area that was a technical training facility but offered ALL types of dance. Pros: Challenging, nurturing facultyProfessionally run Cons: distance from home more

Top of the line!! 6/30/2010

My dancer has been with the studio for almost five years, and each day is an incredible experience. My child has vastly improved, and each day I see her grow even more. Every day she is learning dance as well as great life skills like team work and discipline. Great, amazing atmosphere, and great, professional staff. Highly recommended for everyone who's serious about dance. Pros: Everything about the studio is great. Cons: Brawley School Road, but it's coming along more

Great, Great, Great! 6/30/2010

Awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome! I love going to this studio every day, because I always feel like I'm at home! There's a big focus on technique here, which is awesome because that's really the only way a dancer can improve. Learning a million routines for a million competitions will put you in a rut. The only real way to get better is to make sure that your basics are good first. This studio really helped me learn that it takes good technique to be a good dancer. And it's a great positive place for all kinds of kids. There's not a lot of drama, and we all love each other! There are big rooms for us to dance in, and we have a special big sis/ little sis program so that everyone has a fan, and we all dance as a family. This studio is the greatest thing ever! Pros: Everyone is appreciated and the atmosphere is great! more

DEFINITELY the best studio in the area. 6/30/2010

In a word: inspiring. The studio has recently changed owners, and it's a breath of fresh air. If you're lucky enough to step inside the studio, or see one of its shows, you know immediately that everyone involved: the owner, the teachers, the students, even the parents all live and breathe the art of dance. ADFA has always had its priorities straight, it?s right there in their slogan, ?Learn how to dance, not just a dance.? That mantra has been the studio?s guiding light for over thirty years, and it?s still burning strong. What does that mean, exactly? It means that from the moment that a student walks through the door ? whether that student is an advanced, technical dancer that consistently places very high with his or her solo (and there are many of these), or a beginning dancer who still has a lot to learn (and there are also many of these), that student is lucky enough to be presented with the actual fundamentals of dance. That student gets to learn why techniques are as they are, and how the movement takes its meaning. That student is lucky enough to be presented with an incredibly strong technical foundation upon which the teachers are able to build amazing, award-winning routines. This is a rare find in the world of competitive dancing. Having been an active member of several different studios over the years, I can honestly say that only at ADFA did I ever feel like my dancer was presented with the actual, sincere joy of dancing, not the empty, fruitless push to win a competition with a ?really fast? routine. And what if a routine doesn?t do so well at competition? What if a student forgets his or her solo, or flubs a trick onstage? What if a student is new to the studio and isn?t as technically advanced as his or her peers? It?s all right. Every teacher, including the owner makes certain that every student knows that he or she is talented and appreciated. Each and every student at ADFA is always treated with equal kindness and respect from all of the instructors, and each student is given the attention that he or she deserves. ADFA always does very well at competition, but that?s not ADFA?s purpose, and every student knows that. Or, I should say, every student is lucky enough to have been taught that. Every student that I?ve known to attend ADFA can?t wait to go to class, can?t wait to reach that next level of perfection. Because at ADFA, the focus is ALWAYS on the students, and ALWAYS on the joy, art, and discipline of dancing. Everyone involved at ADFA is professional and sincere, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that it is the absolute best studio in the area for every age and every skill level. With regards to ADFA, my only regret is that I didn?t find it sooner. Pros: Terrific atmosphere for dancers of all levels and ages. Cons: Cons? What cons? more

New and Much improved! 6/30/2010

My daughter has devoloped not only excellent dance skills, but also life skills in a positive supportive environment. The focus here is on great technique, hard work, attention to detail, responsibity, time management, and developing positive relationships with the other students and teachers. I would highly recommend this school for both recreational and competitive dancers. Pros: caring and professional teachers and new owner! more

Excellent Dance Studio 6/30/2010

Studio has always focused on the mechanics of dance, building strong dancers from the beginning, less on just doing routines for the shows or competitions. My daughter works hard for her instructors because she values their opinion and she knows that are experienced and have terrific credentials in dance education. Besides all the work put in for the competitions and recitals, they also volunteer their valuable time to dance at various community activities. I have nothing but praise for the instructors, their new owner and the future goals of this studio. An excellent value for your dollar if you care about a quality dance program. Pros: Focus on mechanics, basics, developing strength more

LOVE THIS STUDIO! 6/30/2010

Postitive environment for children. I have a daughter that does competition and one that does not. I feel the studio caters to both very well. We have been here for 3 years now and a new owner has taken over and done a great job. The communication with the parents and organization has gotten much better than in the past. What I like is the attention to details. I was a performer for many years and sometimes things are done last minute but that is common in this business and I feel this studio goes above and beyond for the children to have the best. Pros: Professional Faculty, Great Facility more

NOT RECOMMENDING THIS STUDIO EITHER 12/27/2008

I would not recommend this studio either. The main teacher is getting quite heavy and can't even show the students what she wants them to do. If she can't show them, how can they learn the right way? Plus she is about the moodiest person I've ever been around! I am waiting to see if she has the costumes done this year, or if she will expect the mothers to sew them and glue rhinestones the night before the first competition, as she did last year. Biggest procrastinator ever! If she is not ready for showcase this year and have all of the costumes done by the first competition, then next year, we won't be there. I figured I'd give her one last chance, but this will be the final one! Pros: Wayy too expensive for what you get! Cons: Way too expensive for what you get! more

I agree with Falley wholeheartedly. 8/30/2008

The owners and teachers seldom return phone calls or emails. Their main concern is to make the most money as they can with as little work as possible. The owner opened a 2nd studio 175 miles away, and she can't wait to get out of there. HAH, the person who will take over when she leaves is about ten times worse than she is! Cons: Class size is way too large. Too few dance rooms and too few teachers. more

Don't go here! 7/18/2008

This studio is never ready for dance competitions. Very unprofessional. If a teacher gets sick, you often don't know until you drive your child to the studio and find a sign on the door, stating dance is cancelled for the day. I would never recommend this studio. more
