Best

To all the people complaining about the bones in the chicken, it is apparent that you have never been to Jamaica. The food is authentic and they are keeping it that way. They ju...

Worst

First, don't order the J*rk Shrimp Skewers to go. I paid $9.00 and received 1 Skewer containing 4 Shrimp! What was even more insulting was the large container they placed it in!...

Disappointed 4/30/2006

I agree with a prior review in saying that I was truly disappointed when I got home. The worst part is that I drove for over 35 minutes to get to this place because it was highly recommended and I was having company the next day. I ordered jerk chicken platters to go and when I finally opened my platters I found one platter with NO MEAT, one platter with a fish staring at me (I am allergic to fish), and two platters with bones and a little chicken to go with it. I didn't check before I left because the young lady who took my order looked me in my eyes and said ""Four jerk chicken platters"". I had to go out to buy more food. I was so disappointed that I was seeing red! Never, EVER again. more

Exceptional Experience 8/11/2005

The smell of the food increases your appetite as you walk closer to the restaurant. The service was great; the waiter was very tentative and polite. This was the first time I have had Jamaican food served on an actual plate to be eaten with a real fork. Usually most places are totally take out and if they are sit in you sit in with a foam container to eat your meal. The atmosphere was awesome, the food was spectacular. I strongly recommend the curry chicken or the jerk they were both so delicious. The stewed chicken was also awesome. I had the strawberry lemonade and it was great but that mango orange is at the top. Try it out. If someone is disappointed in the place they are not truly familiar with true Jamaican cuisine. more

Wonderfully spicy 8/5/2004

The Jamaican Jerk Hut is a magnificently unique experience. Their food is excellent, with all of the sauces simmered to bring out their richly complex blend of spices. The brown stew chicken is one of the best dishes Ive had in the city. The jerk chicken is also, as advertised, the house specialty and well worth the risk. However, not all of the dishes are explosively spicy; just ask your server for a slightly less intense recommendation. From spring-fall, walk around back to the veranda, where there is outdoor dining and, on Friday and Saturday nights, live music to create a wonderful experience. Also, it is a BYO and I recommend mixing a little rum with their homemade fruit drinks. On the downside, it is understaffed, so there can be a wait. Also, while the jerk shrimp appetizer was wonderful, the platter was rather skimpy for the price. Pros: Complex flavors, hearty portions, outdoor dining more

It's not quite JA, but it comes close... 6/4/2004

For me, it's hard to go to a Jamaican restaurant in the States and not be somewhat disappointed - after all, its NOT Jamaica. However, the Jerk Hut provides a good fix if you're really missing Jamaica. The atmosphere is perfect. The veranda - a grass hut with basic yard furniture, and the setting - next to the vegetable garden, with reggae playing in the background, makes you feel for a moment you are back in JA. From a vegetarian, the Ital Stew is my favorite, and the okra run down a close second. Friends have raved about both the jerk and curry chicken. The corn bread, plaintains, and deserts are delicious. But hold off on the patties - nothing compared to the ""real"" thing, and there is plenty of other good stuff. Bring a bottle of Appleton to mix with their homemade juices (mango is the best!) and enjoy... Pros: inexpensive good food, fresh juices, atmosphere more

It Ain't traditional 11/5/2003

It won't remind you of that oil drum in Negril, and neither is it traditional BBQ, but it is great food, especially for the price. Quality can vary with the availability of Scotch Bonnet peppers. Pros: Cheap, Spicy, Hip more

Hanging at the hut.. 7/10/2003

I liked movie night and the live music another night. I enjoyed my jerk chicken meal very much, but I wanted to try the conch fritters. Alas, Conch was out of season! I wonder when is the right time? I heard they're supposed to be stimulating! I had a square meal and alot of fun! Pros: Food more

Good Eats 5/22/2003

I've been to almost every Caribbean and Jamaican restaurant in a 100 mile radius (and Jamaica) and the Jamaican Jerk Hut is the best. I drive from Southern New Jersey all the time, just to grab a bite. It's just short of eating this style of food in Jamiaca. Try it, you'll love it. May I recommend the Jerk Shrimp and Jerk chicken. Enjoy!!! Pros: Very Tasty Cuisine, Great Variety, Large Portions Cons: Bad Parking, A Little Pricey, Small In Size more

Great food 4/22/2003

Food was great. One of the best jerk pork and chicken i have ever had. Downfall is that in the restaurant felt like i was in a third world country. The food made up for it. Pros: food, value Cons: ambiance more

Who paid for this listing? 9/26/2002

If you like spice then this is the place. There is so much spice in the food, you can't taste the food. If you want spice, that is hot spice, then this is your place. If you want food, then go somewhere else. Pros: good music Cons: too spicy more
